I am 74 now, and still can't understand where time goes. In my heart, when I hear this song and others of the 60's, I'm 16 and walking in the dark along the summer beach with my girlfriend. All our friends could see were four distant white legs by the surf. The music plays and I'm 'back there in a heartbeat'.

I am also grateful to have experienced my formative years in the 1960s. It was a complex decade, but still offered our younger selves space to 'Be', to dream & grow. BUT...there will be another '60s' decade....'2460s' 😊 No, it won't be our 'Boomer' '60s'...because we were younger..and so was America. My point...let us try and be hopeful for the younger ones who will have their own '60s' to someday look back on....their own music in which they can hopefully find joy and comfort. P.S. (We were (collectively) something though..weren't we?😉😀...

There's a sense of innocent beauty in the older music which is lacking in the newer "stuff." Take away beauty and you lose hope... The music people listen to reveals their values and where their hearts are. Sadly this explains a lot about the current state if things...

God, you have that right. Though Madonna is critizied for her overt sexuality, she has some beautiful songs on the record, no pun intended. This used to be my playground, Take a Bow, I'll remember, You'll see, Live to tell, Oh Father, Majesty, etc. Of course, she is post-60's. One song that is reminicient of the 60's is TRUE BLUE. In the 60's, I loved The Association, Loving Spoonful(Summer in the City), Peter and Gordon(I Go to Pieces), The Outsiders(Time Won't Let Me) and many other groups, duos, and individual singers. Now I have to go Downtown.

@@michaelwilson9925 Madonna is kind of my grandmother, but I have a huge crush on her! 😁🤣 But she does have good songs. I loved her version of 'Don't cry for me Argentina'. Also, 'Cherish', 'Borderline', 'La Isla Bonita', 'Live to tell' are my favourites, only to name some.

@ TFoxyBoy… Bless your sweet heart for being brave enough to say that…so many in your age range would loudly disagree. I’m in my late 70’s so have been lucky enough to have spanned so many genre’s & changes in music. I’ve tried to like most of them (sorta 😂), but, still completely in love with the music starting in the 50’s. The 60’s were magical ( for several reasons). I was young & present to see the likes of Sinatra, Dean Martin, Perry Como, the Righteous Brothers, the onset of Dolly’s career & of course Elvis, Motown & on & on. Not to mention so many of the groups like these guys. So many of these songs take me back to an exact place & time…💝. Good music is a gift to us all….

Music just moves on. It's always exciting. Shame that you can't take in anything new. I'm not saying that old stuff is bad at all. It's just that 80% of people stop listening to new music when they hit their 30s. Fact! Not saying that chart music is any good, but there is brilliant new stuff out there. And there will always be. Btw. the Cascades didn't even play on the recording. It was the Wrecking Crew. Glen Campbell etc.

I had my second “real” job as a small radio station DJ in 1963, a year after graduating from high school. One of the fondest memories was cueing this one up on a 45 RPM record… and letting it fly to the sound of that thunderclap. The 60’s were a magic time.

For a song that is over 50 years old to get over 19 million views it must be special.
@MrLASCOM1
@MrLASCOM1 4 жыл бұрын
I don't know that the song itself is special so much as the era the song is from. Much of the music from the 60's And 70's was done with emotion. AND, the artists actually learned to play instruments instead of using synthesizers.. So, many of the songs capture an individuals emotions and that makes a song "special" imo.

+rhonda terry I love the music of the 80s and the early 90s. The quality of music has spiraled downward, unfortunately, and so has the moral fiber of society. Songs that degrade women, proclaim violence against police, and is so vulgar in describing sexual activity is not worthy of praise, but of the most pronounced criticism possible. I do not hide my head in the sand. Music has always influenced behavior, and if it's harmful toward youth and society as a whole, I'm against it. The music today is vile, polluted, and is greatly harmful toward our most impressionable youth. Nothing personal against the artists, but the contents have much to be desired. We get all bent out of shape at environmental degradation, but moral degradation poisoning our youth? That's okay. Sorry, I disagree with you as far as far can be. I see the net results of what this music has done and continues to do, and I see a much troubled future n this world. That's how potent good music is, and bad music as well.

My youth was quite mild compared to today. I remember the corvairs. They were rather abundant, though today you might see one every now and then. May you live a blessed life, and enjoy music as much as you can.

Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain Telling me just what a fool I've been I wish that it would go and let me cry in vain And let me be alone again The only girl I care about has gone away Looking for a brand new start But little does she know That when she left that day Along with her she took my heart Rain please tell me now does that seem fair For her to steal my heart away when she don't care I can't love another when my hearts somewhere far away The only girl I care about has gone away Looking for a brand new start But little does she know that when she left that day Along with her she took my heart Rain won't you tell her that I love her so Please ask the sun to set her heart aglow Rain in her heart and let the love we knew start to grow Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain Telling me just what a fool I've been I wish that it would go and let me cry in vain And let me be alone again Oh, listen to the falling rain Pitter pater, pitter pater Oh, oh, oh, listen to the falling rain Pitter pater, pitter pater

I was staying in a hotel in Seattle in 1987, the entertainment was a guy with a guitar and synthesizer. (quite primitive) he played this song, and I had goosebumps. Went to him and told him it was my absolute favorite. He said "thanks, I wrote it!" Eddie Preston. Didn't use that name when he was with the Cascades.

Memories, memories. Life is short and it is only when you are old, you realize it. I'm 73. I feel sorry for the young ones today. Life back then was uncomplicated. There were rules like girl/boy, courting, engagement, marriage, baby. Heaven help you if got the last two items round the wrong way. And the music was, with some awful exceptions, beautiful, melodious and romantic. "Rhythm of the rain" is a perfect example.

It was 1965 and I was stationed in San Diego Training Center at the ripe old age of 18. As I was walking on liberty, I saw a sign on a niteclub that said, "The Cascades Tonight!" Wow So I went in, but the bouncer would not let me in.On the band break I had stuck around so I could at least talk to the guys. it was cool and they really treated me nice. I asked John if they would do Rhythm of the Rain for me, even though I couldn;'t go in. They open the set with it and I stood in the door way listening. after the set. John one of the other guys came back to the lobby and we talked some more about my writing and stuff. Then My Liberty went from good to great... It just so happened that they were working on a new album and that they would be in the studio on Saturday and would I like to visit while they record? Would I? ... I was there. Little ol JB at 18 in the studio with the Cascades! guys, I dont know if you remember the incident, but I will never forget that Liberty weekend. James "JB" Banfield Blessings to you all.

Your mom was 15 when she had you? I'm so sad she couldn't have been married and at least 19 before having you. It is difficult enough to raise a child when with both parents, but with a single girl that age with the care needed, and the money needed to spend, makes it that harder to make sure the child gets the love and surroundings needed to feel secure. I hope it wasn't as difficult for you in growing up as I detailed.

"Hey Paula" by Ray Hildebrand (82) died on Aug. 18, 2023 (five months and 60 years after it hit #1), was another big 1963 hit, #1 for 3 weeks (Feb. 9-23, 1963), released in late-1962. Jill Jackson ("Paula") is alive at 80, so Ray was 22, and Jill was 20 when they hit their only #1, and one of the most memorable, lovely, unforgettable ballads that year. If you saw the college movie classic, "Animal House" (Jul. 1978), Boon (Peter Riegert) and Katy (Karen Allen) sang "Hey Paula" to each other, with their film highlighting the 1962-63 school year. I was surfing KZbin and this song came up. The last time I heard this song was 50+ years ago. It brought back some good memories of me listening to this song on my small transistor radio tucked under my pillow at night.

Your comment about tucking a small transistor radio under your pillow is the first time I've seen that someone, other than myself, did that. I did that all of the time.

Angela Todd, I have myself a portible late 1940's 56A Gilfillan radio. My father restored it fully last year for me. I bought it for just $30 at the Pomona Swap Meet about four years ago.

My grandma passed away more than a year ago due to heart problems. Anytime we would go on vacation she would call it Vacation Music and this is one of the many precious songs that were on there. I just remember sitting in the car laying on her shoulder as this song would drift me to sleep and every time I hear it I realize how sweet and sour 1900’s music makes me feel. ❤

I was born in 1968. So glad I grew up without the internet! My friends & I climbed trees, waded in the creek, caught toads, built outdoor forts, & you could wander the neighborhood without being shot. We also had the 2 story metal slides at school that really let you zip down! Not like my grandson on the plastic slides now. A comedian called them "scoots" cause you stop & go! 😀 Got to ride in the bed of an open pickup & nobody called CPS! So glad my childhood was "back then." Who doesn't remember the family's first microwave, VCR, & the magical cordless telephone? Haha Also loved my great grandfather's 1969 Impala with the V8 engine. You could really have fun on snow in an empty parking lot then! He didnt have a radio in the car, which for a teen in 1985 was unthinkable! I took the boombox that took tons of D size batteries & sat it in the passenger seat. One time leaving my driveway, i was fiddling with it, & scraped a pine tree. With those heavy metal bumpers, it took bark off the tree but the car was still pristine! So funny compared to the styrofoam & plastic crap we have now! Reminds me of the song "I wanna go back, go back, and do it all over, but I can't go back I know." Good memories though.

No one can go back in time, but think that you are fortunate to have lived those years & you'll always keep the memories. It's a part of your life & it will be forever
