Most restaurants don’t cut into servers tips through directly, its through sales. As in the amount of a servers tips they take is based on % of a servers sales, typically 4-8%, most ive heard is 12. Cash tip or no tip at all, the restaurant gets their cut.

@F0STER7 Yeah, they absolutely do. Lots of shady stuff is going on in places. Maybe not the high-end restaurant or chain corporations, but small end dive bars, take out spots, or mom and pop kitchens? They'll rinse you, because what are you realistically going to do about it? Complain to the nonexistent HR? Scrounge enough money to sue for a place that barely brakes even, even after all your money went to gas and groceries this month? Depending on what country’s Crowns those are though, the mandatory tipping culture is slowly trying to crawl its way in here too, horribly enough. Starting to see it appear in some checkouts and card readers where you have to actively decline to not tip, which is ridiculous. Optional and not culturally enforced tipping is fine (though 20% is kinda insane to me; 10% at most unless the service is outstanding). Mandatory tipping is just me subsidizing their wage, indirectly putting money in their employer’s pocket by reenforcing their substandard wage. If the price on the menu/label isn’t the actual price I’ll pay, I’m not interested in doing business with them

Being rich and tipping +2, Being poor and not tipping +2, Being mad at the poor guy for not tipping -2 The whole point of tipping during the great depression was that it was an option for those with the means, a mandatory tip goes against the point of tipping since the lower prices were meant to allow poor people to dine. Tipping at any restaurant where $50+ per person should be added to the food prices and anything below $25 should be a discretionary tip.

Do other people tip when they pick up in store? The dude at the cash register probably asked 'what is this' because who the fuck tips when they pick up?
