Most restaurants don’t cut into servers tips through directly, its through sales. As in the amount of a servers tips they take is based on % of a servers sales, typically 4-8%, most ive heard is 12. Cash tip or no tip at all, the restaurant gets their cut.
@FlutterSwag

@LoachAo
@LoachAo 12 күн бұрын
@F0STER7 Yeah, they absolutely do. Lots of shady stuff is going on in places. Maybe not the high-end restaurant or chain corporations, but small end dive bars, take out spots, or mom and pop kitchens? They'll rinse you, because what are you realistically going to do about it? Complain to the nonexistent HR? Scrounge enough money to sue for a place that barely brakes even, even after all your money went to gas and groceries this month? Complain about it and lose your only source of income, while don't even fire you, just start scheduling you less than what's livable?
@F0STER7
@F0STER7 12 күн бұрын
@@FlutterSwag i couldnt agree more. there are some restaurants in my area that are known for pocketing server tips. Its either a really entitled GM or Owner, or a gross corporation. even where i work the GM gets the biggest cut in the tip out pool. His company car wasnt enough i guess..

Depending on what country’s Crowns those are though, the mandatory tipping culture is slowly trying to crawl its way in here too, horribly enough. Starting to see it appear in some checkouts and card readers where you have to actively decline to not tip, which is ridiculous. Optional and not culturally enforced tipping is fine (though 20% is kinda insane to me; 10% at most unless the service is outstanding). Mandatory tipping is just me subsidizing their wage, indirectly putting money in their employer’s pocket by reenforcing their substandard wage. If the price on the menu/label isn’t the actual price I’ll pay, I’m not interested in doing business with them

Gonna play devil's advocate a little bit here. I've had people say this kind of phrase before if I've tipped "what is this" I think they're double checking what it is, in case the person tipping didn't realize they already paid, or in case the person was trying to split how they're paying. I know it sounds like I'm making an excuse for someone, but I do think a lot of the time they're just double checking that you are meaning to tip.

tbf, whenever i'd get cash from a job or tip I'd almost immediately use it to fill up my car since sometimes it's cheaper to pay with cash than debit/credit.

I had a friend who would use the problems with wages and tipping to justify never leaving a tip, like she was taking a noble stance against the local Domino's franchise owner by not throwing her change into the counter jar

The No-Tipping to Free the Worker pipeline discourse conveniently skips over the violent revolution step. 1) Dont Tip 2) Workers get poor 3) ????? 4) Profit (for the worker)

is it actually normal to hand the cashier 4 5's into his hand and expect him to know its a tip?
@themothman3726
@themothman3726 12 күн бұрын
Not specifically 5's but generally yes. Whenever someone pays in cash and they hand the person an amount that is blatantly more than the bill it's almost always a tip. You can also leave bills on the table beside the dishes if you eat in.

@ ig my point is the cashier could’ve easily mistaken it for someone to pay for their order again or mayb don’t expect tips at the register or no cash jar but regardless bit was running off embers

@@101lwxI hate it not because of the money but because of the dishonesty. See a $10 item on the menu: - add 10% tax - add 20% tip - add 4-10% to pay for employee healthcare They’re just lying about the price and it feels like a scam. I avoid going to restaurants because of it. Just state on the menu what the price is, I don’t care why it costs that much. You’re not itemizing your ingredients and electricity bill to me, don’t specify all this shit.

Being rich and tipping +2, Being poor and not tipping +2, Being mad at the poor guy for not tipping -2 The whole point of tipping during the great depression was that it was an option for those with the means, a mandatory tip goes against the point of tipping since the lower prices were meant to allow poor people to dine. Tipping at any restaurant where $50+ per person should be added to the food prices and anything below $25 should be a discretionary tip.
