Xale l'ombre de geek ! I don’t much mind the story ending with Dany showing she really is like her father and she succumbs you these tyrannical impulses rather than compassion. I can get behind that storyline. I just don’t think the writing supported it. If that’s where the character was going, there needed to be a lot more exposition leading up that fateful moment in King’s Landing to suggest that she was losing her way, losing sight of the leader she wanted to be. Had they set that up over the last two seasons-even over the final season, honestly-I wouldn’t have been as upset about it. As it stands, we had very little indication that she was unraveling to that degree. It was entirely too abrupt and it saddens me.

You're right - given time and exposition, I would have absolutely supported this change in Dany's character. It was the right ending for her character. But they rushed it, and because of that the change was inexplicable. D&D were absolute idiots for not taking the time to expand the plot. It didn't do the show justice at all.

This is why I love Dany. She’s not your stereotypical, Disney hero. She’s a gray character. There is nothing compelling about a morality robot. Gray characters are what made this show a hit in the first place. If most characters were like Jon Snow and Ned Stark, this show would’ve been cancelled ages ago. Dany is great because she’s not afraid to show her ruthless side, because she’s not afraid to use her wits and cunning to deceive her enemies into giving her what she wants. She’s a great character because of the way the writers intentionally highlight her connection to her Mad King father to keep people on their toes about her. She’s got good and bad in her, which makes you never 100% sure what she’ll do next. That’s what a compelling character is about, not just her silly dragons. Sure Jon has overcome adversity, but so have plenty of other characters. There are even others that have overcome death as well. The most interesting aspect about his character is who is parents just happen to be imo. Dany will always be the better written character. She may not be the rightful queen of the Iron Throne, but she is undoubtedly the rightful queen of this goddamn series (right next to Lena Headey’s Cersei, of course).

Well strap in, this will be long: I would have taken at least an extra two or three months to spend polishing the season, I would have taken the 10 episodes that HBO offered me, and ran with that. The battle plans for Winterfell would be more realistic, and Winterfell itself would be setting up defence over the first episode. The second episode is where the Night King attacks; a lot of the characters die, it feels like a huge loss. Everyone has to evacuate further south, and our allies (the good guys) end up teaming up with Cersei back in King's Landing. This time, they have a more pristine plan. (I would have kept Barristan alive, as well.) When the Night King arrives, many of the best warriors armed with Valyrian steel swords battle him. None are successful. The battle rages on, the allies get decimated; but eventually, Arya goes in for the final kill, stabbing the Night King in the neck and killing him, but getting impaled by the Night King's sword in the process. More of a loss, more of a hit. Daenerys will die birthing Jon's children, just like her mother died birthing her and how Jon's mother died birthing him; and the final episode or two will be Cersei on trial; a Trial by Seven. The trial will end with Cersei losing and getting the death penalty. Characters like Brienne and Jaime have a happy ending. Jon becomes King in the North, Tyrion becomes Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, (six now), yadda yadda. Also, I would have killed off all of the dragons in the battle with the Night King. Now, this is a very rough estimate that I've written in like 5 minutes; I imagine I could write something much more pristine and polished with the help of hundreds of writers, millions of dollars at my exposal, amazing actors, and the weight of having to finish the biggest TV show in the world upon my shoulders. I didn't even talk about everything they could have done; there are hundreds of detailed, long videos on KZbin giving an explanation to why season 8 was horrible.
