The cattle have arrived at our Cochise County Arizona grazing project. It’s amazing to see how much plant litter and soil capping had been broken in first 45 days of strip grazing with the cow herd. Micah is a great grazing manager that is very dedicated, which will be critical in the success of this project.

Man I love what these guys are doing! Such projects are very much needed to show with facts what the regenerative agriculture can do. I’ve heard a lot of scepticism from the scientific community and it is just because we as ranchers don’t document it well enough. Keep it up guys!

To truly do the work needed in Australia they have to admit the damage the aboriganals did to the landscape, and they sure in the hell are not going to do that. So we just go on pretending that Australia was always a desert.

A scenario that costs less than the launch of rocket is feasible. As I envision it: starting from the Indian ocean (where the closest rain comes from), large greenhouse feed sources (to start), a herd, fast temporary fence laying equipment, a highly-motivated staff, and a chessboard layout should see hundreds of acres start their restoration journey which then begin to provide feed for further inland moves. Mechanical air-farming for water and a mobile support camp. Multiple ocean start points are essential. Federal funds to kick it off. Drs. Christine Jones and Walter Jehne in the executive with committed Regen Farmer advisors/managers and a youthful team we are looking at less than a decade to turn Red/Brown into green and layers of humus. A tourist magnet. A lesson to the world. MAGA themes. Breadbasket to the planet overtones. A showpiece of Australians being Australians, those cheeky, disrespectful, high-achievers again. Eventually ownership of the non-chisel type plough will be banned, along with fertilisers, genetically modified seeds, among all those over-priced treats of Agribusiness. Sole problem. The depth at which the scientifically false AGW argument has penetrated our collective mind. It is an idea/innovation killer.

Great, America is turning to desert, just look at the rivers in the region, historical lows all over, and livestock managed in these seasonal dry areas are the only tool that can stop and reverse this process. Greg, its great to see your efforts being utilized in these areas, its a bigger challenge to make work here, than in your humid area but its vital work. Our Humid environments are not turning to desert but these areas brittle environments will, if we dont mimic the impact that the giant bison herds that roam applied, using livestock.

I was raised on a ranch just outside of Arivaca, Arizona. Typical rainfall is 17”/year. This year was an exceedingly good rainfall year, therefore, excellent grass. No doubt, rotational grazing followed pasture rest and recovery will be huge in improving the soil and subsequently the grass stand. Will be interesting to see what happens in a drought year. Presumably will be much more resilient! Well done!

As a former resident of Colorado, I remember being prohibited from installing rain barrels to capture rain water from the roof of my residence. I was told that this would constitute an interference with someone else’s water rights downstream for me. I am now imagining turning many acres of soil into a sponge that could retain immense amounts of rainwater instead of letting it run off. What a great way for land owners in the upper reaches of the watershed to exercise control over the resource!

I have visited Greg's farm in Missouri. Looking at this video makes me wonder. Could you develop grazing rotation guidelines that are normalized based on rainfall? Obviously, regrowth is based on rainfall, sunlight, and soil fertility. If there were generalized guidelines it would make it easier for others to implement such systems.

It would be nice if we recognised that animals belong in the landscape. Also would be nice if we recognised land management should be tailored to the land being managed. Somehow somewhere the word farmer became a foul thing. When in truth, to be a farmer is to be responsible for managing natural resources in such a way that future generations have a future doing the same. This is a great video for highlighting just how much is going on in grazing cattle. Love your work.

I wish them the best of luck, but 500 acres isn't big enough to generate a local micro-climate. I think I've read that 5,000 acres might be the minimum.
