Haha we're brother and sister 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Aonghus now introduces himself as my brother in some videos to avoid confusion! Glad you enjoyed! It's certainly hard not to travel particularly if you have family abroad you can't see, or even family on the other side of the country when we're at stricter levels! I hope you make it back soon!

Ah thanks for the nice comments 😁 nothing like getting outside and appreciating what we have on our own doorstep to take the mind of all the isolation!!! Found a few places we'd never have seen otherwise had it not been for the walking. I like to call it slow tourism!

Lots of great scenery and healthy exercise in a Sunday afternoon. Not many problems with social distancing!

Hiking is a great socially distant activity! Especially on the lesser known trails :D

Hello Ornat, me and my two friends are walking the walkway but going to cork instead. We are bringing a wheelie bin with us as well. If you used any maps apart from the ones provided online by the walkway folk we would be grateful if we could use them. If there’s any way we can talk privately that would be great. Thank you very much, Thomas.

Ah Thomas, I have only seen this now! We've used Hiiker later in our trip as we discovered it and it's pretty good for most of the walk! There's a few spots where it hasn't been updated since it was put up but it's useful 95% of it! It only shows the walking route and not the cycling route though. I'm not sure where you can get maps for the cycling route as that might be best for the wheelie bins! Have you started already?

Although the Cavan way passes nearby that area, I don't believe it goes through it. You can see the map of the full trail here: www.sportireland.ie/outdoors/walking/trails/cavan-way I hope you get to visit some day! It's lovely area! I'd say it's changed a lot since your grandfather lived there!

I’m excited to see what the area looks like there since all my mother’s family was from Cavan and Leitrim (yes, I know I sound like every American with Irish ancestry lol). My mom passed when I was 18 and I’d love to try to visit that part of Ireland before I turn 40.. so I’m giving myself a goal of 6 years to get my arse over there. Nice choice in background music as well. One of the songs sounds like “Keep The Car Running” by Arcade Fire. Safe travels ✌🏼 Quick question: What has been your favorite rural place in Ireland to visit? And what’s your favorite city?
@ornat
@ornat 4 жыл бұрын
All the music is the free youtube things so far so definitely not arcade fire! Give yourself a shorter timeframe and make it happen sooner! With all the travel restrictions these days it's better to do it when you can so you don't regret it! Some of my favourite places in rural ireland would probably be any of the peninsulas in the south west like the beara peninsula, sheep's head, dingle peninsula... so much beautiful scenery and you have mountains and ocean... what's not to like! for more rugged countryside, north mayo is also fab. Sligo is probably the nicest large town/wannabe city I've been to lately - you have so much on the doorstep like Donegal, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim... ocean, mountains...!

Ornat I’ll definitely won’t be rushing anytime soon. When I get there it may be the only time so I truly want it to count. Thanks for your reply.

Thinking of doing this with my daughter in sections. If you park and then walk ie Blacklion to Dowra, how did you get back to your car?
@ornat
@ornat 2 жыл бұрын
We had 2 cars, parked one either end. The only way really. Other alternative is to have a local taxi (or a friend!) collect you and bring you back. I don't think there's any direct buses, Google seems to give options through either Sligo or Manorhamilton for public transport

Thanks! Using the Canon G7X mark ii, handy to stick away in a pocket when it's raining, just not the best sound quality when it's super windy but use a skinny micro muff with it when outside :) got a scratch on the lens during one of the hikes but it still seems to be working for the most part!
