While at CIW in Chino my buddy and I just walked out of Ad-Seg to end our shift and an alarm goes off! So, obviously we run back in and see the 3rd shift officer on the top tier doing his count and he pointed to "A" Section lower tier and we went cell to cell to see what was wrong. In cell 107 we found a female inmate had hung herself from the top bunk. We wave to control to open the door and go in cautiously because we wanted to make sure it wasn't a trap. We cut her down lay her out in front of the cell lifeless. He and I start CPR she goes into convulsions so we prop her on her side and brace her. As soon as she stopped we continued with CPR and bright her back to life. With all this, the other worthless CO never came to tell us shit or help! He ended up getting a medal for "Pushing his alarm" to save her. We were never even mentioned for what we did. But it isn't the "Accolades" why we do our job, right. Stay up, Doggy! P.S. she was transfered a week later and we heard she was successful at her new prison a month later. SMH

CDCR Needs to pay more money In order to get more applicants. They also need to raise their standards with the hiring and make the academy longer with more scenario based training. Its scary too see what the academy is pushing through.

There should be NO BU6 member involved in any physical demanding event with any inmates. Thats a recipe for a set up with the inmates taking off on staff. That “could be” workers comp is a freaking joke. Thats a damn RED FLAG saying “most likely will NOT be” workers comp. What about the CCSO?? Those managers/supervisors want to be promoting should be stepping up to the plate.

The term “Could be” rather than “shall be” is due to the fact that CDCR and CCPOA can’t make the Worker’s Comp dept pick anything up. Meaning the CDCr and CCPOA agree to fill out all the SCIF forms, submit the claim but can’t control the third agency on their own internal investigations and subsequent results.

I agree with you but the EC are there to negotiate with governor and his people. That’s where it stops when they strike a middle of the road which CCPOA EC or delegates on that table likes or don’t like. Not all tables are desirable out comes. Been on the tables before. That’s where chapters come in. Yet COULD be WORKCOMP is where I would have pressed because then they will say it was your decision to participate. Chapters are there to table it also. What’s bad is the new cops will participate because they don’t know the difference. They took overfamiliar out of the title 15 all together. What a good chapter should advise their staff the represent not to participate. Let admin and managers play let the AW’s and captains play. See how that works out. We know there are sale outs in every prison who will and are looking for a way out of working test out work comp and inmate related injuries go ahead try it! Or the once who want fast track promotions diddy style or doggy style that is. But to say CCPOA EC is to blame for not fighting is not true they are there to mitigate and let chapters do their thing. Granted some chapters are the arm of administration not saying what prisons but they have reps who go along just to get along and will have their super seniority jobs where they have no inmate chronos for life. Just saying. Chapters do your jobs. I’m sure I’ll get some texts from this lol😂

When you say that most prison facilities are hurting for staff. Do you think that adds to the dynamic of stress? If so, i’d like to hear your opinion on what actual rehabilitation would look like. How should a facility operate? Do you think allowing certain privileges helps curve the gang activity? How would you curve the gang activity?

Lack of staffing leads to an enormous amount of stress. One example is when you as a CO are planning on going home to see your family for the first time in two days and the duty officer comes to you and mandates you to stay for another shift because they are short. Happened to me many times. Once I was leaving when my shift was over and I hit the last door before going to the locker room and the duty called me to come back to control on the intercom because I had to stay.
