We always here how barbaric everyone else was compared to Rome, but honestly those people tried their best to defend their homes and families. As much as historians like to lick the feet of Romans and their accomplishments, in the end despite all their influence even up to today, they fell. The roman empire and their people fell and lost their positions of power to the very savages they had previously defeated

No empire lasts forever. But the Romans were impressive for having an empire that lasted so long ( if you count the successors too like the HRE and/or Byzantium the number is even more impressive) , was so large for the time , and did civilize people. They were ahead of p much everyone else in the region in terms of civilization , the Romans did more than war. Not only that but their influence in Philosophy , Arts , etc... Is massive. The Roman Law is still a subject studied in Law University, and overall no other people had more impact on history than them, pretty much all the other empires in Europe that came after them were influenced by them. Later in time Europe came to dominate the world, and to this day Europe and the USA ( that has European descent) are the first in pretty much all metrics. Other people at the time while may have been great warriors and defended their homelands, they didn't build that much and their influence was small afterwards. The Celts were brave, yes, but what have they built? What have they written? Who have they influenced? What great accomplishments have they other than resisting the Romans for a bit?
@Inquisitor_Vex5 ай бұрын
It’s doubly ironic since “civilised” Rome stole or borrowed most of their early innovations from the Celtic tribes that were brutalising them for centuries beforehand. Gallic helm, gallic mail, the tall shield, the spatha, the pilum, the use of cavalry, roads, barrels, etc

@@frozzytango9927 Rebels must be crushed against the will of Rome. Lol. On a serious note though. Brutus and the other Liberators went too far in assassinating Caesar. All it did was turn him into a martyr. And entrenched his popularity in parts of the Republic. Then Octavian and Antony in alliance crushed them in a civil war. They should have tried a more subtle approach. By acquiring allies from outside Roman borders. And gaining support from the areas of Rome that did not care for Ceasar. Then they could have kept up calls for Caesar to step down, or declare him a monarch. Then start the road to rebellion that way. Or wait till Caesar passes away and take advantage in the division over who will take over after him. Basically a slower and more patient approach of rebellion then assassination may have been more prudent. As well as would have kept the growing empire stable with Caesar at the head. But at the same time slowly poking at his weaknesses.

because the term Celt didn't even exist at that time, it's a broader term taking into context many tribes all over europe who had the same culture, and almost all of those tribes were opressed by the Roman Empire, so it's not an assumption, Gauls literaly are Celts, as are many other tribes

Celtic tribes did invade northern Italy and sack Rome in the early days of the Roman Republic, so there is that. More than once. Not saying Rome's war on the Celts was justified, but I believe the Celts would have understood grudges and vengeance, given they were so prevalent in their own culture.

There was nothing “shameful” about the battle of Alesia if anything it goes to show just how truly brilliant Julius Ceasar was building such a large wall around the city was an incredible feat of engineering in it’s time but to build a second one going all the way around it again was insane nothing like this had ever been done before and even then when the Gauls broke through the wall a normal general might have fled the fight or lost control of what was a dire situation but Ceasar maintained control of his men rallying his forces and forced the Gauls back thought the wall and plugged the hole it was a incredible feat that only Ceasar could have pulled off.

Queen Boudicca leading the Iceni didn’t fair too well either against the Roman commander Paulinus,who used superior fighting tactics,the Celts of Britain. Never stood a chance,they were crushed by the body weight of their own warriors against Roman shields,it was revenge for the sacking of Londinium.....p.s.,a numerically smaller army that is disciplined will always defeat a numerically superior but undisciplined force..
@thegreenmage69562 жыл бұрын
Why celebrate military massacre of civilians? Boudicca's revolt was just that, an insurgency. It's incredible they sacked three towns and defeated the Ninth Legion, but how could a single dead Chieftain's disgraced wife stand a chance leading a demilitarised group of peasants and geriatric veterans who hadn't had a warrior culture for over 20 years?.
