SA with natural resources in abundance ranking 57 out of 62 countries by a Canadian mining research company vs Botswana ranking 10th, is a matter of great concern. What will happen if slum cities deteriorate further with illiterate, unskilled illegals walking undocumented across the borders in droves - to add to the already sky rocketing unemployment rate? Trade unions leeching on members to keep political parties in power is insane - how is it possible that salted former union leaders cannot see - they are killing free job markets - to replace it with? Manipulative black markets with mafiosi + cartels dictating + ruling the roost. EWC + similar laws in the pipeline will probably be on the law books before 2024 elections, as it will be the sum total of the ruling party's contribution to the future - to be a hoarse, dysfunctional decentralised voice in the present unfriendly + centralised desert. It will result in the mother of all disasters. Political parties breaking their backs compiling coalitions will be a waste of time, resources + money if big business is on the reserve bench to oppose them, by filling any gaps.

Excellent speech. No-one needs a magnifying glass to see in this mirror. Amplifies my contention that governmental and electoral reform is essential. I still think we need some sort of democratic institutions - but based on quality and merit rather than populism. To this end I think the political party system should be scrapped and our national domestic management de-politicized.

Very good talk David. I enjoy factual honesty, laid out well... It always intrigues me about where this new super wealthy class of 'businessmen' got their incredible wealth from... there seems to be a large gap between where they were and how they go their wealth... rather like the Broederbond did before this current ruling class... Hard to condemn the one without condemning the other... both equally crooked.

Those who still support the Springboks, indirectly also support the racist policy of the race quotas, and therefore also BBBEE, EE, EWC, the mirage of the "rainbow nation" and the ANC... The positive publicity the ANC gets from the Springbok success and the multi-racial support for the Springboks, is seen as a general condonation of the racist policies of the ANC, by the majority of South Africans.... A boycott of Springboks was one of the tools used to bring down the apartheid state... we should use this again to achieve the same objective.

@@LambertOtto The image of the Springboks and the mirage of the "rainbow nation" has EVERYTHING to do with how the ANC and the success of them governing the country is viewed in the international arena.... The facade created by the "one team - one nation" on the supporter's jerseys, is the image portrayed by the thousands of fans supporting the Boks... It creates an image of a country united behind the government...but some of the supporters embracing one another after each win, will be losing their homes, businesses, pension funds, medical aids, private schools, private hospitals etc...and the other supporters will be receiving those for free, which is a major motivation for keeping the ANC in power... And when it happens, the world will see this as tacit acceptance/permission from those who lost their property....All for the price of a braai, a brandy and a stupid game...

Privatisation does not always lead to the job being done better. Private road makers cutting costs on big equipment, using inexperienced labour, and negotiating lower specifications led to some really bad road making. Electricity prices increased significantly, but the government still had to fund with grants major service expansions, and changes in environmental standards. David Ansara seems to me to be advocating a policy of non co-operation, while demanding financial control of South Africa. What is new? I have never been to South Africa, and I know there are deep rooted problems tearing the nation apart. The price of extreme change is very high, and many will be losers. The people are angry, greedy, selfish and afraid. Logic cannot reason with emotion.
@michaelnurse9089

In the 90's, Russia privatised everything on America's advice to do so, effectively handing all the nation's assets into the hands of a couple of ex-KGB gangster types who enriched only themselves and close family. Some things are better in the hands of government, but one must stipulate that that government must have a desire to serve the people, as most Western governments do - in South Africa's case, the government has only one purpose - to extract value at any cost from society. ANC members often say "It is our time to eat" which means that blacks were abused economically in the past, now it is their turn to be the abusers, and they see this as the end of the conversation.

David let me first start by saying..... VERY GOOD SPEACH.... However what I say further down is not giving you scrap... In actual fact I wish...No acctually I PRAY that your "Analytically Viewpoints" could come true.... I fully understand your thinking as a political scientist... I respect your viewpoint as it make perfect sence and would work in a perfect world.... But unfortunately here our "metaphorically" roads split... As a engineer we work with real world problems of a non perfect world... Every engineer fight against "yield stress" (metaphorically speaking) in some or other form, depending on your field... Once you exceed that force... The short answer is, it's GAME OVER. So if we look at the reality and what South Africa infrastructure state a'r in ...right now. The yield stress has exceeded the "safe" zone in 2015, we a'r operating in the danger zone since then So here is my prediction, the infrastructure WILL collapse all at once... The support structure of 75M people will be wiped out in a few months. ZA simply have no money to repair the UN MAINTAINED infrastructure. In actual fact MOST parts of the infrastructure is so damaged that it's not repairable any more. The ripple effect of this will be riots, looting and ultimately civil destruction. Gangsters already control large sectors.... and then the fight between good and evil will start So if we look at the ONLY ONE thing the anc got right....DESTRUCTION... we can't find ANYTHING ELSE they managed to pull off successfully... NADA.. ZERO, why would it change now.. So as much as I AGREE with you and hope it could work out like that, sadly I can't see that happen. The only thing now is we can do is waiting for the "TIME BOMB" to go off and then take it day by day... Without making this a very long story. In WW2 around 44-55M people died.... In ZA we a'r (they say) around 60M, but we all know the anc can't do maths... My estate is closer to 75M with Illigall's.....The disaster in the making right now in ZA, will exceed that and will probably be the biggest in the modern world's history books... Thank you anc for destroying MILLIONS of people's lives.... Luckily life don't end here on earth, the ultimate judgment YOU WILL NOT ESCAPE!

Our municipality would drag us through the banana republic court system if we filled potholes or graded our dirt roads. While the nearby informal settlement gets more of their rates written off, they already have plumbed sewage and new roads(no potholes) where we have sewage tanks that are typically not emptied within 2 weeks and regularly over 3 weeks! We pay anywhere from R3000 in rates up to R6000 and those amounts and at the whim of the municipality and if you dare not pay. Well prepare for a rates bill to be compunded ten fold and deducted when you sell or just have your home stollen. All this talk, requires an army behind it my friend.

It might still be possible to fill a pothole, if one could do it unobtrusively (so as not to offend and suffer the consequences)? I saw an article in the Guardian (online) not so long ago (in May 2023), with the heading, "Italian man fined nearly €900 for filling in pothole hits out at ‘injustice’ - Claudio Trenta, 72, has triggered a national debate after deciding to fix 30cm hole himself in Lombardy". That was surely an exceptional case, and it's a good thing that it caused a public outcry. Good sense should prevail!

As a South African person for half my life, and whose ancestors started the municipality of Durban in the early 19th century, I listened carefully to your speech. From your perspective you see the solution to poor governance as being "do-it-yourself" privatisation. You quote amongst truly successful post soviet states Hungary and Poland. This shows enormous ignorance of Viktor Orban's pro-Russia mafia type right wing populism. Poland has these tendencies also within the Ruling PIS party. Georgia's present government, despite having lost a chunk of its territory to Russian aggression in 2008 is vaguely pro-Russia still and yet it is currently tightly filled with Russian refugees. China is a failed state ruled by 200 million communist party members and their families in a web of oligarchic kleptocracy. A billion Chinese have no freedom of speech and draconian punishments await those who say anything against dictator Xi . A million Uighurs languish in concentration camps in the north west where cultural suicide is in progress. The Chinese pay no attention to property owned by other nations in the South China see and seriously means to end the successful democracy of Taiwan. It is amazing that you think of these examples are examples for South Africa to follow!. Oligarchism is spreading within Europe. Serbia and Slovakia are good examples. These places are run by gangsters who seriously do not allow freedom of speech. Russian money is sloshing around my own country (Ireland) at the moment. Irish Land for forestry is being bought up by opaque Russian millionaires with war criminal connections. My ancestors fought against Germans for democracy, my generation fought against Russian proxies in Africa. Now Russians will take over the ruin that is left of South Africa. If Putin is not defeated in Ukraine, China and Russia will divvy Africa up between them. If you try and control SA with Oligarchism and private enterprise, please note that there are bigger sharks out there other than little Gupta guppies. The Russians and Chinese will simply buy out the SA companies that are running the country. Get real man, how can a man of your intelligence think that cruel Oligarchic eyes will miss the opportunities in weakened poor South Africa! They will make mincemeat of you! Time means nothing to them. It took them 16 years to take over Angola but they did it. These players will certainly make you sit up and pay attention before long, believe me! They are looking for ways out of their internal problems already: Look at Russian Wagner PMC activity across the Sahel which is popping with military coups for the past few months. Ask about Chinese gold-mining in Ghana, or Chinese fishing off Senegal (where they have devastated the local fishing industry). Russians are already heavily involved in Mining in South Africa. The reforms in Eskom have failed partially because Russian Oligarchs want to provide nuclear power in SA. Can you imagine that as a disaster! Believe me you need to inform yourself before making public speeches like this. I do not pretend to know what the solutions to SA's problems are. Have I not spend over half a century worrying about them? I do know that selling Rheinmetal-Denel (a private enterprise?) made Artillery ammunition to Russia and then lying about it, is NOT the solution. The solution must involve the education of a new generation of young women in South Africa to think and behave democratically. Give the girls ALL free iPhones! They are the mothers of SA's future. We need blue sky thinking not stale-thinking from money-fixated regurgitating stiffs. From Ireland.

I lived in South Africa for a while 35 uears ago, but I am not South African. It wascthe time of De Klerk and Mandela. Already nack then everyone who was educated and new local cultures and history knew that this was betting everything on the Titanic making a successful first voyage. There was never a way that then 6 million whites, 2 million asians and 1 million middle class blacks could financially sustain and develop the back then 25 million blacks that were essentially still living and thinking like their Bantu forebearers in thec19th century. The strong migration from Zimbabwe and other places did make it just worse. China and Cietnam have high wirk ethics and society tolerates abject poverty for the ones not industrious or clever enough. South Africa is Zimbabwe on a larger scale and who has the means and brains to leave should have left 20 years ago already. Staying to fill potholes is like trying to keep the Titanic afloat with a teasppon for evacuating water. All it does is keep you busy while fat cats of thecruling class commandeer the last life boats.

@@kateseverein7650 I care about the FMF's message and mission and want their speeches to be heard far and wide. Bad sound quality can result in truth being ignored or overlooked. Sorry I hurt your feelings.

Steenhuisen with a beard nothing new here... suttle tone that all was hunky dory until 1994

Nothing was ever hunky dory in this country, not one single generation of any race did not face serious challenges. Federalism such as was started pre 1994 with the Transkei / Venda / Boputhatswana / Ciskei / Zulu trust areas should have been allowed to be completed, but greed and power madness put a stop to it. Call it what you like: Mfecane, Apartheid, cleptocracy, ineptocracy, forced integration, socialism Africa style, alleged diversity, it all failed. Why: Nationalism 9 different styles... there is no stopping it. As it is now 9 different nations are made opponents of each other, instead of equal partners.

These are brilliant ideas but what are the chances big business and the likes would ever try and implement any of them?
@alrinaleroux9229
@alrinaleroux9229 Жыл бұрын
Baby steps -- starting with the personal and local is a good idea. Perhaps big business is best kept at arm's length. We've become lazy relying on "someone else" (such as the big corporations) to do things. A lot of things can be achieved through willpower, even on a limited budget. Working together as a community is crucial!
