it's wild to me when she said "that was 2002" because I hadn't thought about the year and like... i came out in 2004, it doesn't seem as crazy when it's just like, oh, two years before me. i've never heard of her or road rules, i didn't watch the l word or ellen, but there were still lesbian movies where i got my representation until there was more (and tbh i think my theatre teacher maybe knew and was assigning me plays with lesbians in them?). but i came out in direct response to meeting other queer teenagers
