I think observation you get better at seeing colors and learning techniques along the way. I am 64 and only just noticed the sky how the colors change from skyline to higher in the sky. Your always learning new things.

I often have trouble starting a painting. I paint alot of waterfowl and my struggle is the water. You "see" water very well. A beautiful piece, thank you for sharing.

I truly can’t even imagine that you struggle with anything while painting. You seem to paint so effortlessly. Your art is beautiful….. so we’ll done. I am an artist as well, and I enjoy watching other KZbinrs who paint. I’ve admired your paintings. It’s humble of you to share this with the world. Thanks for sharing.

That’s beautiful. I’m glad you are still finding things to be excited about after that many years. …And I definitely think you should do the interview with A.T.! That would be so cool!!

As a relatively new painter, your story and paintings inspire me to work through the challenges we all face with each painting. Thank you so much for your channel, sharing your story, and helping each of us know we’re not alone!

Your musings on your passion-from frustration to inspiration-reflect the reality of all of us. Skill levels change over time, but accessing what drives your artistic passion is what we all strive to do. Thanks for sharing! ❤

Beautiful painting, Chuck, and it's the struggle that has gotten you to where you are now. As long as that struggle never ends, your paintings will consistently improve, too. Sometimes maybe, just maybe, it isn't so much a struggle as it is a searching. A searching does have its struggles along the way, but it's the searching that initiates and constitutes the journey. It's a treasure hunt, and you provide the treasure of your paintings.

It is a relief to hear a professional artist say, its the struggle that got me to where I am, and that is a 25 year struggle so far. I started my struggle with painting, watercolor and now oils. I cant say how much i appreciage knowing thqt the struggle for me has just begun and i can relax and enjoy the journey of learning landscape painting. Thank you

Sharing your life is as much an inspiration as sharing your art Chuck. Every time I watch you paint I am drawn toward picking up the brush and facing my own struggles. Thank you as always.

Great video! I really appreciate you sharing this journey. I very much connect with the struggle and striving to improve because I love the subjects and want to represent them well, but I believe that art, like almost anything, is gained through work.

The thing I struggle with is sketching before I paint. Because of this, I have to paint by eye and learn the depth of field that way. I have conquered that depth of field in photography, but the brush is much different.

It's a challenge for sure, it's why I really prefer to sketch with burnt sienna straight from the tube, I can work it and change it for hours even days until I'm satisfied

I think to become better it's important to embrace the suck. We're wired to avoid struggle but we only grow when there is resistance. Honestly, I think if you paint wildlife at THIS level AND incorporate these magnificient landscapes into your work without undermining the subject matter, I think your art is gonna be second to none

Thank you Chuck for sharing that you struggle, I too am an artist though not close to your level of talent. But I struggle, just recently we built a home and it has been 2 1/2 years since I've had an opportunity to paint and when I picked up my brush again, I just got so frustrated and finally decided to put down my brush and pursue some other creative outlet. I love painting but how do you learn to continually improve your craft? Do you read books? Watch videos? Have a teacher? How should I proceed when I feel like I'm in a rut?

Your water is so real. That is my biggest weakness. Seems so easy compared to lifelike feathers or fur but buoyant, fluid water is my biggest challenge.
@chuckblackart
@chuckblackart Жыл бұрын
It certainly is just as easy as painting other things that you compare it to, however I think it's easier to get lost in the patterns of the water which is why it becomes hard. My ability to perceive those patterns is what has improved over time and I think that's what we have to focus on. It just takes a lot of practice to "see" it and decipher it.

As someone new to painting I wonder what do you do with all the completed paintings? When I was a kid learning a sport or practicing a musical instrument, I did not have all my "practice shots" or my "practice scales and songs" accumulating. What did, are you doing with the paintings that you are using to learn and practice?
