Besides being Chancellor of the Central University in J&K, he has been Secretary in the National Disaster Management Division. Latest is he is also on an Information&Communication Committee attached to the Prime Minister’s Office. So, hats of to the govt. for effectively utilizing the experience of this “Intellectual General”. BTW, in our armed forces, All top officers are thinking people, besides being experts in their own areas of operation. Remember, we, as a people, are traditionally “intellectual”.

China is an ageing population. With one child policy, Chinese parents can’t afford to lose their only child to warfare. China unlike India doesn’t have a standing army and vast majority of Chinese soldiers are conscripts. Indian army is professional, tried and tested, modern and has the worlds best mountain warfare capabilities.

As per accepted convention, as was clarified in a circular by the Indian Army in 2014, the "retd." should be after former officers' names and not their ranks because ranks don't retire; the people who hold them do.
