www.therenegade... We streamed southern rock, pop and country 24/7 until 1/1/16, now shuttered because of excessive royalty rates.
(The Chantels should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...rgjraccoon) (WOI, born of the atom? see below)
Saturday night, February 1, 1958, and the kids are in the WOI-TV studio on the Iowa State campus in Ames. No semi-famous "regulars" jockeying for camera time in Philly, just kids having fun and being themselves. They've had their tickets for months waiting to get on the show. Time for a slow dance...The Chantels "Maybe"
WOI-TV, atomic-powered television? It didn't use nuclear power, at least not at first. But it's been strongly rumored that Iowa State College (now University) got the seed money to build the station by helping to enrich uranium for the Manhattan project during WWII.
Presented by The Renegade Roadhouse...southern rock pop and country 24/7, find us on facebook or go to www.TheRenegadeRoadhouse.Co

Examples like this is why they called the 1950's one of the best times to grow up ever! Look how nice and polite and innocent these kids look. Sure they had other ideas running through their heads... they were teenagers with hormones, but everyone kept it in check, and they knew better! We sure could use a HUGE dose of this today!

There were skanks back then, it’s just that you wouldn’t know who was one cause females didn’t show everything like they do now. Back then you couldn’t tell the difference between a virgin and skank because they all dressed alike. No one really wore revealing clothes.

Yes, I'd sy some of the boys are a bit dressed down, a couple of em almost looked "hoody." I suspect (but don't know) that Seventeen may have been produced by Iowa State College (now University) students, as the school owned WOI-TV at the time and used the station at times for students to get hands-on experience. So they may have been more lax on the dress code than most other shows. "Maybe" is one of my top ten favorite songs of all time...

@resipsaloquitur1857
@resipsaloquitur1857 Жыл бұрын
Oh please!...this was out west in Ames, Iowa in the 50's and I doubt that there were many if any blacks in the particular area/school district where this was filmed. This was obviously not the big city TV show American Bandstand filmed in Philly then NYC which did include blacks and other minorities.

I laugh at how these dancers appear to range in age from pre-teen to practically middle-aged. I know nobody is actually that old, of course, but some look mature physically as well as in their demeanor and attitude - like the lip-synching blonde girl, for example. Meanwhile there's the short little squirt in the dark sweater dancing with the much taller girl at 0:16, at the other end of the age scale.
