Josh Scogin, and the first Norma Jean album, is the only reason I started listening to that style of metal. It was just constantly in your face, and Josh screams with the most passion I have ever heard someone scream. In fact, the passion is even more on Chariot songs!! But, glad '68 is a thing now!

Jean was about the albums and merch and Chariot was about the experience and pushing the boundaries of whatever genre you wanted to put them in. Both good bands, but a wise man once said, A true artist knows when to stop. I think that is true of Josh and the Chariot but not Norma Jean. The Chariot's last show is indicative of that. Every single person in that room was screaming the last words with passion. It's hard to create a band like that.
@wrarmatei
@wrarmatei 2 жыл бұрын
If you're in the market for using fewer words, you could've just said: "Norma Jean is main stream and The Chariot is punk. I like both, but prefer The Chariot, due to their punk ethos." It's that easy. (My fav NJ albums are the oldies, so I obviously like The Chariot best because the sound is harsher, but I had to say something because your comment clearly tries to make a value judgment without making one about the two bands)

Norma jean weren’t “about the merch and albums “ when josh left in 02. They hadn’t even released bless the martyr. The passion and creativity was there but apparently not for josh. Only josh knows why he left. it remains a mystery to everyone else including his former band members.

If you notice Norma jean makes more money than the chariot........norma jean travels in a top of the line tour bus while the chariot travel in a van........I believe josh chose to leave because it was easier to stay and make more money and play bigger shows.......he took the humble road......the harder road to keep practice his faith........I respect him so much for this because most artist take the easier road and want all the money......Norma jean still rules no doubt about it........
@transient442
@transient442 6 жыл бұрын
Anthony Gonzalez you do realise he left shortly after the band released their first album right? At which point they weren't at all popular. They were definitely not making real money back then nor would they be making much money now. I guarantee you they have normal jobs when they're not touring, that's how it is these days. Just because a band is in a bus and has a reasonable crowd it doesn't mean they're making big dollars. This is such a common misconception
@HTXREP
@HTXREP 4 жыл бұрын
@@transient442 THANK YOU! I worked for 3 years with Nothing More and everyone was under the notion that we were riding in a nice tour bus that the band members and us crew member had it made. Making money hand over fist etc. Not the case at all. Everyone in the band works a 9 to 5 when not on tour. Luckily we all work at local venues in our respective cities therefore getting time off for touring is very easy. But just bc you roll in a tour bus and sell the joint out each night doesn't mean they have it made.
@drownthepoor
@drownthepoor 8 ай бұрын
@@HTXREP Yeah people don't get it. Sure Norma Jean took busses on a lot of tours, but that came out of their earnings. Part of the reason why The Chariot wanted to be done with it was touring in that van, and I've heard at least one of them mention this. People don't understand what it means to be hitting 30 and touring. It's not easy on you, and you're not making money proportionate to the sacrifices. Some of these guys have broken their bodies and foregone having families because they are addicted to the passion of performing.

I really enjoy this bands attitude. I feel like today, it's sort of a "Trend" to be in a Christan band. People feel like they need to copy others success, and the success is being a Christan band, but while they are doing that, they don't realize that they are bypassing the whole religion. I hope this band sparks a fire in people, and makes them think about the "D.I.Y" attitude and people start doing stuff differently and the way THEY want to do it.

BTMKTC is a great album but the best thing that ever happened was Josh leaving. Their musical progression wouldn’t have worked with his vocal style. Their rise to one of the most well paid mainstream metalcore bands in the world was due to Cory. I know this upsets the Memphis fans but that song was only going to take them so far.

@burpcore1 I don't know about that, their lyrics really don't reflect anything about their lives and how they want to live. Their lyrics are worth a thousand words. It's not wrong to say that it's religious but it's wrong to say that's all they write about. It's very metaphoric and creative. For example, I always looked at wars and rumors of wars as a story of how war affects a soldier's idea of what is right and wrong. It could also be more of a inner battle of character and decisions.

Also, kind of glad he left. O' God the Aftermath was a watershed moment for Norma Jean and the new guy did THE perfect job. When I first discovered Norma Jean, Bless The Martyr was my favorite but each album got better and better (although I haven't heard the latest NJ album) and now I never go back to Bless The Martyr. Bless the Martyr is sooo different though...
