This is the greatest album, top to bottom, no filler, that no one's ever heard of. I came across this band by accident when their album was released. I was at a nightclub and won free tickets from the DJ to a Charlatans UK concert gig at the Warfield in SF (this was when I was in college, way back in February, 1991). I didn't know who they were but took my girlfriend to the concert anyway. I remember it was like a scene from one of those 60s pysechedilc films, with the colored water blobs that move around like they're alive projected on the walls as they sang. But mostly I remember being blown away by the music. I bought the Some Friendly cassette from their souvenir stand and listened to it on the drive home. I ended up wearing that tape out. What a great album.

One of my favourite albums as an awkward 16 year old Northerner in 1990. Had an incredible connection with their music but never saw them live until last night...... they played a local festival supporting Paul Weller and were absolutely outstanding with some similar visuals to your 91 gig! Legendary stuff

everyone that was an 'indi-kid' has herd of it - and in the UK they are simple known as the charlatans - they added the 'UK', Quote, in Burgess own words, "to disassociate ourselves from a bunch of no hopers" there's some American outfit also called the charlatans... they are from Northwich, which is a small town just outside Manchester - 1st. single, Indian rope, 2nd. the only one I know 3rd. Then. Then, they released, Some Friendly - 2nd album. then they released 'In between 10th and 11th'. this is the original line up - the original drummer died in a car crash.

It’s not underrated. The Only One I Know has always been one of my very favorite 90s tunes. No contest. And the rest of the album coasts on the same retro mod vibe. Five stars.

Life's a bag of revels, I'm looking for the orange one ! So many memories with this album and all come flooding back with every listen. Must have listened to this a thousand times on a battered cassette walkman as a young teen in 1990. Not one bad tune on it - they were so tight ! Love them all, but could personally listen to "Then" all day long.

Last 4 choruses of Not Very Well are EPIC. Oasis, Blur, Inspirals, Roses all had something in common. They didn't have Rob Collins writing their songs, playing ridiculously good organ riffs and amazing backing vocals.

@@williamremel8654 Thanks Willam! I couldn’t agree more as I have been listening to them since Some Friendly came out and when videos aired on 120 Minutes, back when MTV was actually a music channel. It’s nostalgia for me and definitely what you say about emotional as well as they take me back to my teenage years. I happened to meet them in 2006 and whenever they come to town it’s such a treat as they are all such amazingly talented, hilarious and top gentlemen. They are so good live, have you seen them live?
@bryanmcdonald71782 жыл бұрын
@@jenniferskye246 i saw them live in February of 1991, in San Francisco. As great as their Some Friendly album is, their live concert was even better. They bring so much energy when they play that you can feel it in the air, like electricity. I've literally seen hundreds of bands in concert in my life, but their gig still ranks as one of the best.
