Gary Rossington passed away yesterday, March 5th, 2023. The last of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd members. Rest in Peace, Lynyrd Skynyrd, fly free. 😢😢

Ronnie Van Zant’s death touched Charlie Daniels very personally, they were good friends. Beautiful song.

I heard a version years ago and his voice broke when it came time to say Ronnies name and that part brings tears to my eyes to this day... Rest in eternal peace and you and Ronnie are together again❤️❤️❤️

What an homage to Elvis! Have heard this song many times. CD was special in that he acknowledged the people, events and places that shaped his life and career. He knew it was not only about him.

Will never forget this song live in 1983 at Six Flags St. Louis Old Glory Ampitheatre. The crowd went crazy when Charlie sang about being in STL when Janis Joplin died.
