Very helpful. Looking at a Fiberon option for our house on Catoctin Mountain.

We had decided on the Trex Enhance Natural thinking, "lighter, saves shipping!" Our contractor had started installation late Friday - joists were between 8" to 14" apart. When the workers returned on Monday, the Trex Enhance Natural had sagged between the joists! Temps went from 32 to 50 so that should not have been an issue. They had had a problem on another job (different color same product) but thought it was just that batch. We now have them removing the small amount they had laid and have re-ordered materials. This time we are upgrading to Trex Select that is a solid board instead of scalloped bottom.

Sagging? Or wavy from the joists not being in plane? Sagging would be hard to believe at those Temps on a brand new install. But the Decking will absolutely wave with the joists if they aren't flat.

@@TheUltimateDeckShopyeah I call bullshit. If it happens to the same contractor more than once with 14” max oc spacing it’s installer error.

Very helpful and just what I was looking for. I have been leaning toward Timber Tech over Trex just due to some of the reviews on Home Depot. I had not considered the Fiberon which they offer as well, but will check it out. Thanks

This is great! Thanks for explaining the difference, i think the Fiberon looks the best and has the same warranty

What’s the cheapest way to buy these brands? At Home Depot or local decking stores?
@TheUltimateDeckShop Жыл бұрын
Usually the local lumber yards. Box stores are generally awful to deal with, don't have much stock, and are only cheap on select things. Composite decking is not usually one of those things. I highly encourage you to support your local options as much as possible.

@@TheUltimateDeckShop My ABC rep said he could not compete with Home Depot on price. I was surprised. But another thing to consider is whether the product is in stock or has to be ordered. Ordered decking typically cant be returned and you have to order extra so that your expensive labor is not sitting around at the end of the job waiting for materials. If in stock, I can order 80% of my estimate and see how it is going. And at the end I can return unused full boards or unopened fastener boxes. Thank you for the comparison of the product lines. Very helpful to know that the lower end products are not poor products.

Great video. thanks. What are your thoughts on Deckorator brand - Venture? Seems to be comparable to Timber Tech - Terrain, but it's price is better at about $4.75/ sq. ft. here in Tennessee.

Hello what are your thoughts on Duxxbak Composite Decking. I like that it keeps below the deck dry. Any thoughts on that product?
@TheUltimateDeckShop Жыл бұрын
I don't have any real work experience with it. Only seen it at trade shows. But I haven't heard the greatest feedback from some guys I know who have used it. So not sure what to think... cool idea though.

As of August 2023 in Canada prices have skyrocketed to $60/board. Wish we could get the $2/Board.. could we order from US?
@billm16518 ай бұрын
That per foot not per board lol. You can’t even buy pressure treated for $2 a board.
@thecityoutdoors2 жыл бұрын
thanks, when you say $2, is that $2 per linear foot? per sq foot? or something else? thanks. could you explain?
@TheUltimateDeckShop2 жыл бұрын
Per linear foot. All decking is sold by the linear foot. To approximately adjust to square footage, typically multiply by 2.2. So $2 linear becomes $4.40 per square foot.

Good info but I cannot find TimberTech Edge here in the U.S. We have Prime+. Is it the same product with a different name?
@PaoloFrancesco99 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for this. As of Jan 2023, Trex has Enhance "Naturals" color too with some variegation. Interesting that you found the Timbertech one to have more durability. Do you have any experience with Moisture Shield Elevate? They have a good warrantee. In the end, do you think the higher end products like Trex Transcend are worth the extra money over the long haul?
@TheUltimateDeckShop Жыл бұрын
The Enhance Naturals was launched around 2018-ish at the same time as Basics. Very nice colours, but a little more money. TimberTech Edge is more scratch resistant, but when you get to TimberTech Terrain, it scratches very easy - so just depends on the line. Moistureshield Elevate is interesting. We had a look at it this past winter and considered stocking it, but in the end the glossy look that seems to show marks easy, the deep scallop, and the price being where other products like Good Life are made it a no go for us.

Fiberon is junk! I was told flat out from a fiberon rep that their tolerance for boards is up to 1/8" The deck I'm currently doing is all fiberon and our 20ft boards are all 5-3/8 meanwhile all the other boards are 5-1/4" doesn't work so well when you're trying to get everything to plain out. Even with the breaks you can't hide an 1/8th like that.

So, why don’t we just use some wood?
@TheRogerKyle6 ай бұрын
Some people don't care to spend time maintaining a natural product like wood. Also some climates really destroy wood.
@RichAnthony776 ай бұрын
On the outer banks of North Carolina we have harsh salt air & high humidity (along with hurricanes of course…). We presently have a wooden deck, railing, & stairs, about 17 years aged. We are looking into replacing the decking and stairs landings plus all of our railing. We plan to use the existing underneath wood boarding (2x10 or 2x12 pressure treated). We want to go with the lightest color for both the decking & railing. We live in the standard beach box style house with the main house elevated on 8x8 wood stanchions. We have Nags Head Hammocks composite furniture on our deck (2 rockers, 2 Adirondack chairs, 2 captains chairs, and 2 side tables.our decks catch a LOT of direct sunlight and can get quite hot to stand on during our summer season here. We have 2 French Bulldogs who hang out on the deck with us. We want a decking that is not blistering hot to walk or stand on while out on the deck. What advice could you give us on direction here? Thanx in advance!

Timbertech products are terrible. The grooved boards are cupped bowed and warped at the same time.. the railing systems are junk too.
