I have been full timing in my 2021 Solis 59P for an entire year and have absolutely enjoyed it. Explored 36 states so far in all weather conditions ranging from a literal blizzard with 60mph winds, -15f and over a foot of snow all the way to 100f days in the desert. Can't overstate enough how much storage this thing has for a B van and how functional this is in general. The countertop space is very good for a small B. The pop top is not just for kids! Some people knock it and say "oh ill never use that, its just for kids" but have never tried it themselves. It's refreshing to be able to have multiple choices of beds in your 19'9" van and as a 6' guy the pop top definitely has more length to stretch out. However, if you really don't want it, you can option it without the pop top to save some money. The table on the murphy bed is movable so you can move it back a bit, get a folding chair, and work from there and is really awesome to back up to a beautiful view, open the back doors, and have that fresh air as well. If you're planning to boondock with this, I'd probably recommend the PX so you can put bikes inside in the back and have the AC and generator. I boondock in my 59P but hot weather can be rough and with all my electronics, I have to run the engine every couple of days to recharge the batteries, which is fine because it charges while driving so I can go drive somewhere to explore and charge the batteries at the same time. Certainly would recommend immediately swapping the tires out for an A/T with 3-peak-symbol like Yokohama Geolandars or BF Goodrich K02's. The Solis Wannabes and Owners Facebook group is absolutely amazing and friendly. We've been through it all and you can ask any troubleshooting question, any modification question, and someone has definitely done it already or knows of a fix. Whenever someone on the road asks me if I like my van, I confidently always reply with "if this gets totaled in an accident tomorrow, I would buy the exact model again with no hesitation"

A good one Matt does the ox have a pop top? What kind of solar?
@travellingslim2 жыл бұрын
You can option the 59P and 59PX with or without a pop top. If you get the pop top, it comes with a 220w flexible solar panel. Without the pop top I think they give you a standard hard panel one but unsure of the wattage. There's a second alternator in the engine so you can charge the batteries while driving, or plug into 30amp shore power. The solar panel is alright for keeping the fridge going almost indefinitely as long as you have sunlight.

Use the screen and can listen to nature while resting or sleeping. It’s a practical van. Just wonder about gas mileage etc. Can you connect electric to a campsite, 30 or 50 amp etc? I may just wait until I go to an RV Show. I’ve been to the one in Hershey, PA years ago to just look. I couldn’t afford one then. Just enjoyed looking. Been trying to save money. I go to lots of festivals. An affordable practical Class B would be nice!!!!!!

I’m not a big fan of van camping. Having started out backpacking many, many years ago, I would have dreamed of a van like this. I can see a big market for a camper van like this. I like the cockpit area, the extra seating behind the driver, and the pop up sleeping area is cool. Better than tent camping! Dislikes: The back sleeping area is ok, but the way the cabinets extent out over the right side does not provide any seating area when the partial bed platform is raised. Something needs a redesign. I’m confused by the cassette toilet. Yes, it’s small and portable, but if you can fit that, can’t they redesign to have a small black tank too? Thank you for another great video.
@travellingslim2 жыл бұрын
The cassette toilet is not everyone's cup of tea but I would personally choose it every time over a black tank. You can dump it in any toilet which is helpful for boondockers. It empties out in literally 30 seconds with the wide opening and gravity and you don't have to deal with having a stinky slinky, cleaning the hose out, finding an actual RV dump station, etc. If you're worried about smells or solids, there are a plethora of chemical options to break down the solids quickly and reduce the smells which are easily obtained online or at any Wal-Mart.

I like that there is some counter space between the sink and stove, and that they packed a lot of stuff in this tiny RV. I don't like the cabinets over the bed. Matt already pointed out it ruins the seating, but I would smash my head into those cabinets. Which is why most rvs only have cabinets over the bed at one end, then you sleep with your feet under the cabinets.
@travellingslim2 жыл бұрын
Most people sleep with their head on the drivers side. Those cabinets are less of a head banger. I am 6' tall and in my Solis I haven't ever banged my head on the cabinet. Some like to mod theirs by adding soft foam trim around all the hard edges of the cabinets which helps too.

Hello Matt, Will this class B fit in a 1 0r 2 car Garage okay?
@travellingslim2 жыл бұрын
Good luck finding any Class B that will fit in a regular garage. Standard height for garages is 7-8ft. You can probably get away with a small van you convert yourself and not having anything on the roof. When you think about having decent ground clearance (8 inches), chassis, flooring, being able to stand up inside (6'5"), roof of the van, insulation throughout, goodies on top like winegards, ACs, solar panels, antennas, pop top, etc. you quickly reach 9+ feet easily. The Solis with pop top comes in at 9ft which is actually compact for a B, but is still too tall for a normal garage.

#vanlife Matt trying to use the rear door brace, swivel chair, ladder, poptop roof, squeaky lagoon table, and the leg on folding table had me chuckling. The Ram chassis is a Fiat in Europe, so you have a head start on the Europe RVs. Thank you for sharing and have a great day.

@danschwartz19082 жыл бұрын
Shouldn't store the ladder in the pop top, you could damage the top trying to close it. Better to store it above the cab. Table under the Murphy bed is designed to be set either in front or back of that area. It's expected you have a chair to use. I think they missed on the Bench seating capacity when the bed is up as you mentioned. I do like the design and can see the benefits in this small package, that really could be used as a 2nd daily driver.

I always like watching the different vans and what kind of solutions for space they have. This one didn't bring anything new, and left me scratching my head. The space in the rear seems useless except for being a bed. The table blocks access, and should be on the other end. Plus it's so low it would be difficult to use. I love the rod to turn the back into a shower, or just more private area and fight some claustrophobia. Fold out steps back there would be a huge help, a naked scramble doesn't sound fun. Also, the doors only cover from the waist up. Best hang curtains on the sides too.

Here are just some (not all) of the things I store in the back of my 59P under the bed or in the storage areas under the bed for reference. Jackery 1000, 88 key digital piano, leveling blocks, hobby bags (wood carving, etc), bundle of firewood, all my underclothes, short wave radio, laundry bag, 8 books, recovery equipment, extra cables/wires, 50ft fresh water hose, 30amp cable and 15/20/50amp adapters, tire repair kits, towels, toiletry bag, 5 gallon collapsible containers, 40 pack of water bottles for emergency water when boondocking, electric space heater, laundry detergent and dryer sheets, the jack that came with the van, 3 person tent, folding chair, backpack for backpacking adventures, full sized aluminum table that collapses down. I had a folding mountain bike I also kept under the bed but ended up trading it in to buy the 88-key keyboard. Everyone expects a guitar around a campfire but it's fun to surprise people by whipping out a freaking piano out of the back of a small B van ;-)

It's like they threw a bunch of design ideas up in the air and just slapped them around inside a van. Why have the extra sleeping lift top when there's then no comfortable lounging area for all those people. Four people CANNOT comfortably play cards around that stupid little table and bizarre bench seat/captain seats set up. And where would they all eat.
