Its so surreal seeing the production and mixing of a song by Max Martin that I ended up buying. AJ McClean singing the verse of 'Don't Want You Back' from Millennium. I was in high school at the time and I remember lying in bed wondering how these songs came together, why they were so catchy, why didn't make music videos for these songs from the album?

This one is from fall/winter 1998, cause the backstreet boys were in sweden for 2 weeks in november 1998 to record, there along, the track, dont want you back as you can hear!
@CerebralTantrum14 жыл бұрын
@adriatic111 Yes, you can get punchy sounds with various outboards. My guess is that the Euphonix had better automation and recall which is more attractive when having different teams working with multiple projects. -Or perhaps Denniz just prefered the CS3000's colors... :-)

Sweden is now seen - rightly so - as a chart pop walhalla, largely thanks to the Cheiron gang. I wonder if they get a lot of flack from the "serious" music press, like ABBA did in the seventies. They were given a really hard time for being too commercial, they were labelled cynical, money-grabbing capitalists etc. etc. Do guys like Martin and Rami and Lundin at least get some respect for what they have achieved?
@jensj28 жыл бұрын
Bit of a belated reply, but to answer your question, yes, they caught a lot of flak, just like ABBA did. In fact, one of those critics is shown in the first part of the documentary, in the Ace Of Base segment. Today those voices represent a very small minority, again, like in the ABBA case!

Denniz got a lot of flack himself from his SweMix chums which preceded Cheiron. They were always ribbing him for his mixes being too PoP, although they realised it was his mixes making all the money for the studio.He had an ear. Thank God he moved on his own and started Cheiron (with Tom Talomaa) www.disco-disco.com/labels/swemix.shtml

Great new music (at that time) They thought about every little detail , and managed to get a cool , sharp and smoth sounding pop sound (most pop sounds corny). It had alot more power than R&B, yet so much more detail and finetuning than rock music. It was a great combination of things...Those guys current music kinda sux . Does anyone know more details about his death? They said he died from cancer, but he seemed fine a few weeks before in another video recording? was it known that he was sick?

How do you know that much detail? They had sessions in Sweden in October 1998 and then they were recording from noon to midnight from early November to November 14, 1998. You are right, because the song Here I Go Again was released in early November 1998, which means this is October 1998. They did record again at Cheiron in January 1999.

I have a question for all that are watching this video. If I were to request this cheiron sound for a record, would my request be fulfilled? Or would I be given a sound that's less that what I'm aiming at? If so, which producers would make me that sound?
@rnbsteenstar15 жыл бұрын
I have a question for ya. Would I still have that cheiron sound if I request to have a song written with that sound? I'm an aspiring bubblegum teen-pop/ RnB singer from the US wanting to form a group. The cheiron sound what I'm aiming at releasing if I achieve my dream of being a singer. The usa needs some innocence after being buried under all this misogyny.

I can tell that this video is from 90s cos they're working on backstreet boys songs.

I wonder why did they use Euphonix desk instead of standard SSL. Euphonix is clean sounding compared to SSL which adds punch and color to many hit records. Cheiron anyway somhow managed to have that punch by using probably outboard comp. Why didn't they shorten path and mix thru SSL and its famous punchy bus compressor?

This video was in 98' or 99. Dag/Denniz Pop who was their mentor and opened the studio had just died in 'Aug 98. Just after the first Backstreet Boys song came out. Max Martin and others continued to run Cheiron until 2000 when they closed it down. You are probably very observant. They probably are sad.
