Cubs has such a strange offseason. You would think it was a historic offseason because they got Shota and Bellinger. But they made the massive mistake of not trusting them and giving them early opt outs. Now Bellinger will opt out and because he has done it two years in a row now he will certainly get 250 million from someone, proving the Yankees. Then after next year Shota can opt out and if he continues to have a sub 3.00 ERA he will get 200 million. That’s 450 million and likely 65 million a year combined. Had they locked them in last year long term it would’ve been approx 230 million 30 million per year combined . Awesome and horrendous offseason for the Cubs

Man this is offense has looked like shit recently but I hope they can AT LEAST win the series or sweep St. Louis cause that would feel really nice after a shitty series against Atlanta but if they just don’t care and be irrelevant again then it just shows they don’t wanna win and ONCE AGAIN they are facing Miles Mikolas who has been terrible so far this year as his era sits north of 6 and if they don’t do well of him and just decide to strikeout and just pop out consistently then it just shows that they don’t want to be playing October baseball.

Sellers at the deadline ?????? That’s hilarious. The Cubs would have to be something like 10 under .500 to be sellers. Even if they were, then one of SF/STL/PITT/NYM/WASH/CINN/ARZ would have to take over the WC#3 spot. All of these teams are currently under .500 Combine this with the fact: -the cubs June schedule is much softer than April/May - the Cubs will surely start hitting better - the Cubs are still 4 over .500 despite it feeling like they are 14 under. Your prediction is almost impossible. It would take San Diego + a current under .500 team to get absolutely red hot, to go along with a complete CHC collapse (finishing 10 under .500) in order for cubs to sell at deadline. About a 1% chance of happening.

Looks like Bellinger's success last season was nothing but a salary drive, and now that he got the money for this year and next with the opt in, he's fat and happy and not willing to compete. If I'm the Cubs, I make him part-time DH and first base next year and put Crow-Armstrong and Canario in the outfield every day and let them sink or swim (after unloading Happ), then part ways with Bellinger after next year. They should spend the rest of this year finding guys to replace Steele and Hendricks in the starting rotation, and finding reliable high-leverage relievers including a closer. Forget about making the playoffs. They wouldn't be competitive anyway with that batting order.

Replace Steele in the rotation?? give me a break
@DionysusAlS5 ай бұрын
@@aronscott9698 , tell me the last time they won a game he started.
@MINNESOTA_PTSD5 ай бұрын
@@DionysusAlSthere’s no reason to replace him. You have a point, you’re just not making the right one. It’s been like 10 games or so since the Cubs won with Steele but that’s not necessarily *ALL* his fault. The point to be made is, Steele isn’t some top of the rotation “Ace” that’s gonna lead the Cubs to the promise land. What Steele is, and has been dating back to All Star break last year, is a 4.00+ ERA guy. You don’t replace 4.00 ERA guys. That’s still plenty competitive. Still #3-4 type of guy in any rotation. And while right now he isn’t pitching well, he will most certainly improve back into a 3.50-4.00 type of player. But what (A LOT OF) Cub fans won’t do is admit that Justin Steele isn’t the pitcher they say he is. Matt Cozzi is a prime example. He honestly believes that Steele is the key to Cubs success. Somehow fans have developed this false sense of invincibility about Justin Steele. They think he’s one of the best pitchers in mlb. He’s not. And it’s not close. I tracked his stats in innings 3-4-5 dating back to last April. He’s bad. He’s got like a 7 ERA and a 2.00 WHIP in innings 3-4-5 dating back to start of last year. He got awfully lucky with line outs and unearned runs last year. I’m all about shutting down fans who say Justin is this elite, top of rotation type of guy……… but he’s still plenty good enough (when he’s right) , to be an asset to any rotation in MLB. 💯
@MINNESOTA_PTSD5 ай бұрын
Honestly, in a perfect world, I’d like to see Steele in the bullpen. I’d love to see the rotation be: 1. Shota 2. Newly acquired Power pitcher (K) 3. Horton 4. Assad 5. Taillon Bullpen: - Leiter JR (specialist) - Wicks (long releiver, 6th starter) - Justin Steele (7th-8th) - Brown (7th-8th-9th) - shutdown elite closer You’re literally 3 additions way from being able to post one of the best Rotations + Bullpens in all of MLB. - Power K out Ace - Power K out closer - Horton from farm Would love to see these moves made by opening Day 2025. And from there. Just fill out the lineup. Add 1 true Superstar bat to go with PCA, Shaw, Tauchman, Bellinger, Morel, Nico, Swanson, and a catcher to be named later… And we’d be a juggernaut. All we need to do is the obvious stuff. 1. Develop Big 3 at farm ( PCA, CADE, SHAW) 2.Acquire Power K out Ace 3. Aquire Power K out closer 4. Aquire true superstar Position player 5. Put brown and Steele in bullpen with elite closer. And watch as we win 105 games with ease. 2025-2026-2027+ At the very latest Steps 1-5 should be completed by 2026 opening day. 💯 x 💯 This is still a developmental year. It just is. I know fans don’t want to hear that , especially Cozzi, but it’s true. Edit: Suzuki and Happ are likely both under contract through 2026. But both would be 31 going 32 in Aug 2026. I can’t see this team achieving what they should with these 2 playing everyday in 2026.
@DionysusAlS5 ай бұрын
@@MINNESOTA_PTSD , Steele seems like he'd be the stereotypical late-inning reliever. He has two "plus" pitches and that's about it and seems to give up much harder contact the more times he goes through a lineup. I get that he wants to be a starter and he's been groomed to be a starter his whole career, but he'd be much more valuable as a guy who comes in to get important outs in the late innings of close games (leading or trailing). I remember Kerry Wood successfully making the transition to late-inning reliever..
