Dude the bass was soooo groovy. But playing that drum groove with those triplet rolls in the beginning and the sixteenth notes on the hi-hat with accents on the bell of the ride is more my thing!

I played 2nd Trumpet on this piece in junior year of high school. I played played 2nd Trumpet in the middle quartet part (same as first but harmonized lower in some places). Learning to play that very well was almost the best part of my life. I love this piece.

Just here to say that it's scary when there are 4 trumpets and at least 1-2 trombones playing that crazy hard middle section at 2:08 in unison... I guess that is what we get for having 7 trumpet players in Jazz Band. I'm on 3rd trumpet, but that doesn't stop it from being a smokin' part.

Experiment with the chords, instead of including the root note in every single chord you comp with, try replacing those with 7ths, 9ths, 11ths, and 13ths, Just have fun with it! but don't try so hard to AVOID using the root note. As far as rhythms and comping, it's ok to add more chords to your comping when playing more modern styles of jazz. When playing old school jazz literature, limit the amount of chords you play, and keep notes shorter. In general, play more on offbeats (ands) than on downbeats.

The description is wrong. Kris Berg did not make this song. Alfred "Pee Wee" Ellis made the song and Jaco Pastorius made it popular by adding his own musical attachment to it, called "The Soul Intro".

in my band the 2 trumpet was supposed to duet with the trombone but she was did not like fast parts so the trombone did it as a solo I she did very well becuse she was confident with herself so even if you make a mistake make it with pride becuse that is all it takes to have a good player
