In my years of chicken experience, that was a broody poop. When a hen goes broody, they only leave the nest once a day to poop/eat/drink. So it’s more like 24 hours worth of poop 😅

Next time, try trimming the primary flight feathers (feathers at the tip of each wing). Those provide the most lift and stability. Aside from that, make sure to avoid trimming blood feathers so he doesn't bleed, AND ensure the same number of feathers are trimmed on each wing (for stability).

Owned chickens forever. After a month. I learned to put up 8' deer fence with chicken wire along the bottom 3 feet so they don't rip it apart. They can jump 6' as you can now see

Never trim a rooster's flight feathers. It makes it almost impossible for them to fight off predators and defend the hens.

Or any bird's feathers for that matter, cutting a feather with blood flowing through it can get infected, attract predators, or the chicken can lose a little too much and become anemic.

​@@WaryJester only newly developed feathers have blood vessels in it (usually in chicks because they're growing). After developing, the feather will dry out, the vessels will then regress as the feather mature so no worries in trimming feathers as long as it is matured.

⁠@@juniorthird7952 They are actually pretty good against predators contrary to popular belief. While a single chicken may not stand much of a chance against a fox, a coop of chickens has a whole defense system planned out. When one chicken sees the fox, they start screaming at it and puffing up, disorienting the fox and alerting the other chickens. Then, roosters start trying to scare away the fox, as they are often the most dangerous in a coop of chickens. If the roosters can’t scare it away, they will still stand their ground, and if the fox tries to attack still, the roosters will start scratching it and pecking it, which actually does a lot of damage as their claws are designed to be able to dig into tough dirt, and predators. This can drive the fox away. Of course, if the fox is able to take a chicken without alerting the coop, it can usually get away with one or two chickens, but in the grand scheme of things, chickens aren’t actually fully defenseless. Chickens have also been seen successfully fighting off eagles to protect their chicks, so maybe don’t underestimate them.

I do this but I cut their primary flight feathers.. that's what you're supposed to do. It's the first like 10ish feathers from the END of the wing inwards. Works exceptionally well. Works on ducks and turkeys too.

Silkies aren’t efficient layers, they can get frostbite easily, sometimes they can’t see cuz of their feathers. They need more care than standard chickens
