This is fantastic! Poor martha : ( I wish there was more fanfic(both vid and written) made for this movie. It's a beautiful story and deserves much more attention.

A duel of performances of both actresses, who give a master class of interpretation.Formidables actresses who worked on this work in a time still very difficult for the theme of lesbianism. If you are interested in this topic, I recommend you to see the following titles: Person, Swedish film of 1966 directed by the director Ingmar Bergman and the protagonists Bibi Anderson and Liv Ülmann, more here in time the movie Mullholand Drive (1999) or Camino de los dreams directed by David Linch and the protagonists, Naomi Watts and Laura Harring. I'm sure there should be more titles with this theme but for now I know these. greetings from Argentina.

it is not fantastic. She loved Audrey Hepburn ( who wouldn't) and ended up swinging for a rope, as it was usually the case in a movie in those days when there was gay love involved. I would have loved this when they would have ended up together but not a love full of shame and guilt.

Shirley certainly shines in this landmark film. This was also Veronica Cartwright's first major movie, portraying Rosalie Welles. At only twelve, she too delivers a remarkable performance, particularly for so young a child actress performing in a film which tells such an intensely dramatic story.

Such a great movie! I'm a Hepburn and MacLaine fan since at least 13 years I think. They are/were such great actresses! And that movie is one of my favourites.

A FASCINATING MOVIE WITH TWO AMAZING ACTRESSES AND A "SHOKING" STORY... HAPPILY THE TIMES ARE CHANGING AND, NOW AND SLOWLY, SOCIETY BEGIN TO ACCEPT THAT EVERYONE HAVE THE RIGHT TO LIVE ACCORDING TO THEIR WHISHES SINCE THEY DO NOT HURT ANYBODY... I AGREE COMPLETLY!...

Shirley's best performance ever. No hair. No make-up. No wardrobe. No leading man (okay, James Garner). Wonderful, unfettered performance. Yes, it's not politically correct (what does that even mean?!) & it took William Wyler 2X to get it right. Great movie, great performances.

@mixforpeace Cheesy dialogue? Really? This text is a masterpiece. Surely augmented by stellar performances, but come now. Is certainly an elevated style, but hardly cheesy.

@mixforpeace ~ Do you really think that Lillian Hellman wrote cheesy dialogue? Is it any more cheesy than this song?

If you need to vent your singing talents... great!, but you should do it on your own made film rather than someone else's work.
