The Chinchillas' Full Morning Routine | Get Ready With Us! 🐭

Hi guys!
We wanted to share a more in depth video of how I start the day, every day, with the Chinpals. Remember, this is just basic care, and even though it may seem like I'm going above and beyond for them, daily cleaning and maintenance is absolutely necessary. Now, having a whole room for them, the shop vac, the shelving, the Ruggable Rug, etc, those are human extravagances that are definitely not necessary, but sure are helpful!
Like I said at the end of the video, taking care of chinchillas is not extraordinarily difficult, but it does last for 15+ years; and with a pet who isn't even that affectionate! I think a lot of people are perfectly fine vacuuming up poops every day, but the fact is, chins don't really want to snuggle! Ask yourself before getting a chin: "Am I okay with an expensive, high maintenance pet that doesn't want much to do with me, for the next 15-20 years?" Odds are, probably not, which is completely fine because you canjust hang with us and enjoy the Chinpals! ❤️

I am so happy that you let everyone know that this pet is not a pet that usually likes to be touched. So many buy them because they are so cute and then get bored of them because they cant snuggle with them. So many chinchillas are for sale because the owners dont want them anymore. So sad. I have two males myself and I love them so much. Both of them pee in a glas pan like the one you have. So easy to clean. Ikea sell those very cheap aswell 😀 I never planned to have chinchillas but 4 years ago when my neighbour asked me if I could take care of their chinchilla for 6 weeks while their apartment was renovated I said yes. They came to me with Emil 3 years old. He was living in a small bird cage!!!! I had googled about chinchillas before I got him and also talked to a breeder. OMG! Everything Emil had was not good for him. Wrong food, paper bedding and that small cage. He only got to have playtime once a week in the bathroom while they where cleaning his cage. Sand bath once a week only. They fed him 4 raisins a day. When he came to me I set up a playground for him in my living room and every night while I was watching tv in the sofa he came to me and sat on my legs and had fun running around in his playground. After 2 weeks my neighbour asked if I would have him permanently. I got him a proper chinchilla cage and after 6 months I got him a friend to live with. Little baby Milo came and he was then 3 months old. They make me happy everyday 😍

When I am able to get my own place, my chinchillas are going to get their own room! Right now they are in my room and don't behave enough to free roam. One of my chinchillas likes to shew things and the other likes to get stuck behind things lol. So they currently just have a play pen and if the temperature permits, they can go in my huge sunroom. But when they get their own roomI am also thinking of getting two more chinchillas so I'll have 4.

i find it so interesting that you are able to have aspen bedding in their cages! i have 4 chinchillas, and ive always caught them eating the bedding, i personally use fleece fabric. did you start using the bedding when they were babies? tia

Loved seeing your process!!! We just went from 3 chins (our youngest passed unexpectedly 💔😞) back up to 4 chins (we adopted baby twin girls! 🐭🐭)! Cleaning cages becomes such an important part of daily/weekly chores! May I ask a few questions? - Where do you buy your thin apple sticks?!? I can’t seem to find any quality apple sticks that aren’t suuuuper thick and not yummy smelling to my chins? - We have the MidWest Critter nation for our older bonded pair, but don’t love the “storage space” beneath the first floor! (It makes it very tall, and they love to hide underneath it! 😅) I noticed you have your cages on the floor, and wondered if you could show us how to do the same for ours? It would be even better if we could keep the wheels on, but I’m thinking that won’t work with how the cage is constructed? (Wish I had a brand new cage to test the theory? 😂)

Hey! Thank you so much and I’m so sorry for your loss 😢 First Q, we actually get them from a friend, BUT we like NOLA Chin rescue and Whimsys Menagerie for sticks!! And for the cage, you can just put the cage on its side and unscrew everything so there’s just the little metal stubs sticking out. They will tear up your floor though, so might want to put it on carpet or a rug or something if you have nice floors! The wheels sadly can’t secure into the cage this way though!

Sadly my black velvet did not recover from the anaesthetic after having his teeth filed down at the vets. In his wonderful life ‘Chivers’ did not like cuddles. He could jump down a whole fight of stairs! Love biting any type of wood almost just to taste it. He would make a hell of a noise after 8pm in his square meter cage. On putting my head close to him he would make many brilliant sounds and put his little hand on my cheek. He loved his sand bath. It is great to see your babies so interactive.

I love your videos! I am a first time chin mom and it’s so nice to have something to reference and learn from. Sometimes I watch to reassure myself that I’m doing correct things with her, and I really appreciate that validation. How can you tell where they pee on the bedding? I only have my one girl and it’s hard for me to spot where she goes in the aspen bedding. I do have one layer/shelf of her cage that I line with fleece, so she could be peeing there? Hello! I’m planning to get a chinny in about a year and am determined to knowing all I need to about taking care of a chin. I was wondering if a vacuum hurts them in any way? Like with their sensitive hearing? And how do you make sure that the vacuum stays running and not clogged up due to the little bedding pieces? What do you do if I’d does get clogged?
