China does not have and has never had sex education in or at any level of schools. So current students will not know and parents also don't know anything about sex education. In fact, anything sex related, even talking about it, is taboo in Chinese culture. While working in China, it was shocking how unaware grown adults are about sex, sexuality, affection, intimacy, diseases, etc....Adults are literally frozen in time maturity wise to the age of a pre-pubescent child. It made understanding other cultural idiosyncrasies more easy, like why elderly women dress like teenagers, why throwing tantrums in public by grown adults are normal, and why taking accountability is not a virtue.

Sounds like you are describing selfish behavior in general. We can see the rise of this in the West with the rise of self-importance and the dissolution of group identities. At least, any kind of community / group identity. Now we are fragmented into aspects of our identity. The "People who are attracted to X Community". Ah! The Left. It's a real thing.

What the Fort Detrick researchers found was that herpes is the most important factor in the AIDS structure. The herpes virus, they wrote, activated the HIV virus to perform its deadly work. It is the first virus to have appeared in mankind for many centuries which is entirely new, highly lethal and spreading steadily from person-to-person worldwide.” This was not a well-meant attempt that went haywire. This was not the work of a mad scientist. This was a project coldly calculated to discover whether a new virus could be created that would decimate a population in a seemingly “natural” plague. The experiments were concluded in 1917. Thus was born the AIDS virus. The AIDS virus (human immunodeficiency virus or HIV) is a “cocktail,” half-animal, half-human, and a certain killer. It is highly pathogenic to human, but it differs very much from any other virus of humans. I think social media is part of the reason for causing increase in STDs. This has been reported in western countries too. Apps like Tinder have been blamed for a huge increase in casual sex and STD's. Many young women are using social media to make money as an influencer, but they get many offers of money for sex. One girl on social media can have a million fans. Even if only 1% of men offer money for sex, thats thousands of men and the temptation to make money is too much. In the west, its almost normalized for young girls to have an onlyfans or Tinder. In real life, most men wont ask a stranger girl for sex. The internet removes the normal, embarrassment, shame, and risk of rejection. Same for women, Western media and health officials have done a terrible job informing/warning people of the risks.

HIV enters the cells of immune system and destroys your ability to fight infections of all kinds. It enters the same way that bubonic plague enters those same cells, binding onto the same protein.. People whose ancestors are survivors of the black death are fairly likely to have mutations in those cell proteins that make it difficult or impossible for HIV to infect them. Don't use it as a magic shield, but HIV spreads less easily among descendants of places that black death plagued. This is because people who had the normal protein when the black death was rampant .. they caught it and died. Anyone with a mutant protein was lilely to be resistent or immune to that particular disease. This may make some countries have a harder battle, based on demographics

This talk was eye-opening, Lei, Thank you! Your information in this talk definitely helps bolster your theory you have explained over a number of your recent talks, about the true size of Chinaʻs population being actually substantially smaller than is commonly reported (~1.4 billion). Because, if HIV is running rampant in China.now - or since the 1990ʻs! - it cannot NOT have had a seriously negative effect on the population of China as a whole. I wonder how someone whoʻs HIV+ even obtains effective treatment medications in China, not only to save their own lives but to prevent the spread of HIV to others. I have only compassion for the millions of Chinese people who must cope with HIV in a far less-than-ideal health care system, especially if they cannot get effective treatment, which is EXTREMELY expensive if you even know you need it. HIV is quite fatal without treatment, as we have seen in America since decades ago. The acceleration in the decline in Chinaʻs population is a logical and natural prediction, unless effective HIV prevention is done immediately.. But I believe there is hope that IF the CCP wants to stop HIV it is through public health and public education, both of which need improvement whether thatʻs in the United States or in China, or any other country. Those are the only things that can work. Education and communication ought to be easy for the CCP to bring the population of China, no? Lei, thank you for your channel and I wish you a happy new year in 2025. You do an excellent public service through your channel by your reporting and analysis. Brava! B

The comments of the plastic-surgery worker around 38:27 regarding syphilis make no sense to me: Syphilis is a bacterial disease curable with antibiotics, penicillin being the front-line choice. The cure may not undo all damage from the infection, but it makes the patient safe, i.e., noncontagious. The plastic surgeons should simply have the patient first treated for the infection and then perform the surgery without risk. Anything else is not just irresponsible but absurd. (Penicillin-resistant syphilis hasn't been observed in decades. Antibiotic treatment may fail with immune-compromised individuals, but then we're talking about people who have bigger problems than syphilis, never mind plastic-surgery issues.)

well it can, but more likely to happen with genital fluids I presume? Toilet seat or sharing towel, cup or spoon I dont believe is major risk transmiting std:s.

Thank you. Watching from Alaska. 🤔 Very interesting and informative presentation. That China is not somehow outside the landscape of those issues should not be a surprise. As advance as they proport themselves to be it appears that they have a lot of catching up to do. 🤔

It seems as though the Chinese government (CCP) employed the same cover-up and obfuscation approach to HIV as they did to Covid-19. Lei, this was an important topic that was masterfully covered.

The Australian government has completed the development of a promising vaccination against the corona virus. It was pushed forward by scientists at the University of Queensland in Brisbane and the pharmaceutical company CSL. Although the vaccine did not cause an HIV infection, some volunteers tested positive for HIV after vaccination.
@asmith21262 күн бұрын
Yes that was in 2020 and clinical trials were abandon due to the false positives , it was really stupid using the hiv virus as a part of a vaccine.

At this day and age. anything above 10K for a province is BAD. To have 100K is terrible! There are cheap drugs available that can suppress it to the point of non-transmition. Why didn't they give them the drugs? just provide the sex workers with the drugs.

HIV was once thought of as a foreign or "Westerner" disease. But Chinese society has grown to be materialistic, hedonistic, and promiscuous over the past 30 years, they are joining the club and arms race to winning HIV infections.

I understand that you compare current stats but many of these can't be used. As the "peak" in the USA was nearly 20 yrs ago at an incidence rate 167.3 per 100.000 people. And both nations were in different social moments of development and societal changes. The state in which China is presently is quite similar to that of the western world of that period. Time will only tell if these will enlarge to surpass the previous world peaks. China, even if it has developed to surpass most of these nations in urban settings, it is not the case for rural areas. It has been proven by many organizations that with the globalization of the economy and social advances, incidence rates of "STBBI's" (sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections) continue to rise. Contrary to the USA, the Chinese government issued many policies (1989/90), to strengthen the prevention and control these. Since then in 2002, syphilis and gonorrhea were listed as legally infection diseases and HBV vaccination was mandated to all newborns. Proper regulations on prevention and control had to wait until 2012 but 2019 for those regarding hepatitis B & C. As for the obvious "bounce" in an upward trend in China, is due in part to the lowered diagnosis rates of 2019-2022 (covid 19); as the government limited the spread of the causative virus led to partial or total city lockdowns, restrictions on gathering and socializing, as well as traffic restrictions. On the other hand, the pandemic did reduce the availability of diagnostic testing and accessing routine sexual healthcare. What is obvious to all, is the causes. As the Chinese government and all information collected for the last 22 yrs show. Gonorrhea and HIV rates were the highest in rural areas and the migration (of most of them) and to big cities in order to achieve better living conditions and employment opportunities have expanded the HIV epidemic. But this cause and effect is not limited to only this. The overwhelming cause was the precipitous increase in syphilis cases ( in 2008 one child born/h in China with congenital syphilis) which increases the risk of acquiring and transmitting HIV. I would also add that citizens can be stigmatized by the burden of their social structure, which highly valued dignity or "face" (mianzi) and social relationships (guanxi). Stigma and the isolation to which it can lead present barriers to widespread screening among high-risk groups in China. The almost eradication of syphilis in China in the 1960's, due to closing down the sex industry (Ma Haide/George Hatem) had inadvertently removed the cause and made STI's were virtually unknown to China afterwards. Whereas in the USA, certain surgeon general Thomas Parran took a different path as to not only diagnose, treat but to place this disease front and control on the national PUBLIC health agenda. Thereby transformed it from a sinful predicament to a disease worthy of targeted public health effort - the most important moment (in US healthcare policy) that catalyzed the expansion of local public health resources. What is needed is, a broader recognition of STBBI's as a public health problem, renewed financial commitment from all levels of the government, and technical input from advocacy organizations are imperative as to be all controlled and eventually eliminated.
