I have plenty of moras, and also this exact £2 knife... the cheapo one has become my beater knife, and has been perfectly fine for 99% of tasks I've thrown at it. tbh I would expect a cheap knife to break when Slammed through a tree trunk with a baton, even moras have been known to break when abused like that. So I don't baton it through a tree. Call me insane. I tend to use my knives for cutting tasks, and use my axe for log splitting.

In the Philippines, a Mora knife costs 3-4 times a Chinese clone. Poor people buy China-made knives for their low prices, but we don't use them that way. We use them with caution, knowing that they were cheaply-made. What you did was like making a Volkswagen car perform like a big truck. We use small knives for lighter jobs & we have a machete & an axe if we go to the woods. The Mora knife is nice to have & surely it's worth to have one. I understand that for survival purposes, a Mora knife is much better even though it costs more. Personally, I have few genuine knives & a lot of cheaper ones for daily use in the home or edc. Because knives are banned for self-defense in our country, we carry inexpensive China-made ones, so that when confiscated, we'll not have hard feelings about them. They are like Saturday Night Specials, throw-aways we call them.... Thanks for your video!

Sure they understand what they are doing. They are changing the knife just enough to claim they aren't the copycats they are -- not to mention carving out every hundredth of a cent in production cost, but "nod nod, wink wink" look we can sell you a "mora" for $2. I've lived in China and I've seen the working conditions and environmental costs of their manufacturing. You are paying more than $2 for that knife whether you realize it or not.

Someone figured, "Hmm. Mora knives are very popular, loved around the world, people literally buy them by the bucket in some places. If we make a Mora-like knife, maybe we can cash in on some of that, too." Except that they failed to understand why Moras are made the way they are and decided to cut corners. Oopsie.

Thanks for showing us how the Mora, a low priced knife to start with and how a cheaper version of it just cannot beat the Mora. When I started my knife review channel I tried doing the hair on the arm sharpness test, because I had never done it simply as a knife collector, and I found that my hair is so fine that when a knife can cut newsprint clean and perfect with a push cut then it is just about sharp enough to cut the hair on my arms, but if the knife only cuts regular printer paper then it is almost always not sharp enough to cut my arm hair. So body hair cuts on reviews don't impress me at all, because it is so subjective depending on the individual, whereas paper is pretty much the same around the world

I think the Chinese, who are naturally smaller stature people make knife handles to fit their hands. Wal-Mart here locally sells a 3 dollar Chinese maid bait knife with a plastic sheath that is a dead ringer for a Mora. I have plenty of Mora's but could not resist buying a couple of the cheap Chinese knives to throw in tackle boxes, tool box etc. and they work very well for what they are and have a good sharp edge. I have not put them through any torture tests of course, just small jobs, cutting string/bait whatever. They are certainly no replacement for any of my Mora knives. I am not at all surprised at the outcome of this test. Great video.

good tip about using the magnet to find out the tails length. and yeah, very hard to kill the 511. batoned it with a big rock and the back of my axe (steel). some tiny piece broke out the back of the blade, still its fine use, no real wobble. if mora would only offer different colored handles and sheath for it, like orange.

Mora is kind of hard to beat. Their prices are rather low for the quality. Other companies have tried to under cut them for a long time, but they always have to drop the quality to the point that it is very noticeable. I bought a Waco Killer a while back because I had to add a dollar to get free shipping and it was only 2 dollars. I never used the thing because the blade looks like it was sharpened by a confused guerrilla with an angle grinder.

So the Chinese sheath has great retention and the knife handle has great tang retention. So all they need to work on is getting the blade to stay in one piece. Or make folding knives.

now If you compare it to a $25 aliexpress chinese knife the mora sucks. There is no good $2 knife. That should be obvious. To be sold at $2 the production cost must be $0.5 from the factory.

I have broken a $20 Mora. The good thing of a well known brand is consistency. If you abuse a knife it breaks. You can expect anything from $2 blade because there is $0.10 worth of labor put into it. I understand your objections against Chinese production/QC. The point is you can get a d2 steel full tang blade with decent heat treatment and g10 handle for $25-$30. Yes it is not going to well polished and the sheat is going to be crap PU leather. But I can live with that. I can polish it myself and stitch up some leather. The point is shopping from a well-rated seller. If say 50+ people bought the knife andd there are no negative ratings it is good enough.

Say Heah M8, I wouldn't be surprised if it was made by Mora or even Hultafors. They prolly could of made a over or something might be off from the original. But I do So overnighters, so quality is paramount. Infact I made a very good Lite Basic Trio with my Mora 2000 teamed it with my Mora Hatchet and my Bacho Laplander. I also put together a nice Piggyback with my Fox Parang Bushcraft Jungle Knife and my Mora Kansbol a lovely piece of kit.. I also use my newer Mora 510 as my neck knife when I take my Modified Rodent 6 which I had thinned down from a . 265" thickness to less than a 1/4" and I had the top guard taken off, so now it L@@Ks like a Ratmandu on steroids. I add my Hultafors Bruks 17 " Agdor Hatchet and my Wicked Tough Saw another lovely piece of kit. I trust my life with this set. What use to be a great Tactical Knife is now my Survival Knife. The controversy about Bush Craft Knives and Survival Knives I settled it by carrying both and that's why I neck knife carry my Mora 510 on a ball chain I got with a Top's Knife. Yeah, doing solo overnighters I make sure I have tools that I can trust my life on them. That's right I test and practice with them before I take them out. Actually we have fun on weekends doing that. Infact I posted a few of my knives on Google Plus your welcome to L@@K. I got the pictures from the internet, but I have every tool I post.,,.p

Chinese made or not, treating any knife like that is firm evidence that you know absolutely nothing about being a woodsman. It means you learned everything you know from backyard "experts" on KZbin who couldn't live in the wilderness to save their asses. A knife is your best friend, and you don't beat your best friend with a club. A knife is for CUTTING, and if you know anything at all about actually living in the wild, you always, always, always have the proper tools on your person to avoid using a knife like it's a vicious rattlesnake you have to kill.

lol ... I don't know why this video makes me laugh. Is it the absurdity of buying that knife for 2 dollars or is it the fact that this head to head to head review resembles a vicious bumfight -two homeless derelicts battling for glory. I have a ton of Chinese made folders, because they are cheap, have relatively good quality (some are top quality) and because my life doesn't and will not at any point depend on them. My bushcraft knives are all US or European made except for my Nepalese kukhuris.

That test is not a good comparison, as you chipped off just a small wedge of the log with the Mora but tried to get all the way through with the chinese knive. But anyway, i am quite sure the Mora would survive even that. Saying the chinese knive is junk is not fair. It is just not suitable for batoning. Some people just a need a knife and have not the intention to split whole trees with it. ;-) I have a Mora Companion and woud not buy that chep one, too, but if you are really on a budget or are the kind of person who loses knifes, it might be quite okay.

Politics aside, no matter where this orange blade was made, it was doing a close second job at the tasks shown. Batoning with any knife is questionable and cotriversesical but if done with a partial tang blade, it should only be done with smaller kindling, not a big piece of wood. I'd buy that Chinese knife and treat it as one, carving, feather sticking, camp chores, but certainly not batoning large pieces of wood, the same way as I use my MORAKNIV.

Humble Trekker By properly made, do you mean with at least two rivets going through the tang? I don't feel like watching the video again, but I don't recall any rivets in the Chinese knife. How else can you properly secure a blade in a knife without a full tang?
@verysurvival
@verysurvival 8 жыл бұрын
+SuperN0va rivets are not needed. Mora an Hultafors are two examples. They use correctly tempered tangs that are machined to not have weak spots. As you see on the vid, it was not the plastic handle that broke it was the solid metal that just snapped. Rivets are not needed to secure a tang in plastic handle. If you wait next week I will smashing a rat tang knife through a large log with an axe. A rat tail knife with plastic handles does not need rivets

I feel like you are getting your terminology mixed up. A rat tail tang is just what it sounds like, a tang that is so thin that it looks like it might as well be a rat's tail...there are no "properly made" rat tail tangs since you already failed making a proper tang when you decided to make a rat tail ^ ^;.What you likely mean are stick tangs(what most Moras have) which can indeed be decent and perfectly sufficient for most uses.

Regardless how much better the Mora is,I must say at $2 and $4 both are a great deal...but you might as well spend the extra 2 and get the superior Mora...I knew the Chinese knife couldn’t compete,Mora has been in this game for a long time.they have had many years to perfect their knives..the knife that has earned it reputation so much so that Chinese made a clone..you can find some pretty decent Chinese knives but it’s often like flipping a coin if you end up with a good knife or a dud..take Schrade knives for example,I’ve bought the SCHF56LM 3 different times..the first one I bought was a beast and held up great but I accidentally dropped it in the lake one day..so I ordered my 2nd one and it snapped the first time I introduced it to hard work..ordered number 3 and it has been great..1095,full tang,canvas micarta,a kydex sheath with a ferro rod and holder attached to the sheath...pretty awesome for under $40..I also have an old school Old Timer Schrade back when they were made here in the USA and I have the LeRoy which is either from China or Taiwan but its held up to the little use I’ve put into it..these are just a few of my budget blades,I have many knives in all different price ranges..everything from Mora,Enzo,Schrade,Elk Ridge,Gerber,Kershaw,Cold Steel,Lion Steel,Ka Bar,SOG,Buck,ESEE,Bradford,Bark River,Fiddleback Forge,Spyderco,Case,CRKT,Ontario,TOPS,Benchmade and many others..I’ve yet to buy any Zero Tolerance,Mission,Chris Reeves,L.T. Wright and Survive! GSO but they are definitely on my list

Who in the heck cries about someone testing the sharpness oh a blade on their leg hair?? City folks that’s who...I have a lot of knives...and am always edcing a DULO PUUKKO in K390 steel...and every man from the city that isn’t too freaked out to talk to a person carrying a fixed blade...asks me why I carry a knife..and I say why only city people...I know why....but then I say some people collect hats, watches, etc. I collect knives..and then I show them my Beautiful puukko knife from....DULO KNIVES...and the first thing they say is you could really stab someone with that...well anyone could really stab someone with a pencil...or a fork..knives are tools...that in the worst case....could be used for killing....SO ARE PENCILS

I knew there was no way in hell that Chinese clone couldn’t compete..for the price range,you will NEVER beat a Mora..with that being said,I have never even considered batoning with a Mora or any knife this size..lol..I use Mora knives for pretty much everything except heavy work like chopping and batoning.that is for big knives with a 7” blade or longer and hard use steels like 1095,D2,Elmax,3V,etc...with that being said I watch guys in a KZbin video hammer a Mora Robust into a tree,stand on it and then start bouncing up and down on it without it breaking..so the chances are,if someone broke a Mora knife they were trying to break it..ijs

One's knife is important, and given that Mora knives are outstanding quality at any price, why would a person rely on an unknown and unbranded £2 Chinese knife, when the thoroughly proven Mora's are little more than that. Its not that its a cheap knife, its that its provenance is wholly unknown, and if its one's primary knife, reliability is priceless, hence the inexpensive Mora every time! A cheap knife failing in use could cause unwanted problems and injuries...
