I do want to open a discussion regarding the instrumental section of the band. A big part of me agrees with you when you say they don’t deserve the scrutiny, but a small part of me does not agree. Obviously, there was a lot of mental strain to make the reformation happen, but why did it even happen in the first place? To the public, it just looks like the whole band swept the situation under the rug and wanted to continue on as the biggest metalcore band to ever exist, ignoring the MASSIVE elephant in the room. Maybe I’ve got the wrong take, but I’d love to hear other opinions.

I played in a local band in the early 2000's and I left due to a membe's drug and alcohol use. He was just the nucest guy when he was clean and sober but as soon as he had a drink or did a drug you basically feared for your own safety and the safety of others. I tried to talk to him about it and he was mad at me for not following his lead in living the "Rock Star" life. I told him we weren't rick stars but just 4 guys who wrote and played metal. I expressed my concerns with the other members but they didn't seem concerned at all just mad he was disappearing before practice and for a couple days at a time. I tried to talk to his girlfriend she said that he was abusive towards her and she was staying out of it. I finally collected my stuff after work one evening and never came back. His girlfriend begged me not to quit because if he came home and my stuff was gone then she wasn't sure how he would react. He ended up calling me and cussed me out for about 10 minutes. I simply told him I was done if drugs was more important than our musical partnership. He told me he enjoyed drugs and he could do both. I told him that he missed the last three practices because he ran off. He didn't seem to care so I told him to find another guitar player and I was keeping all the guitar parts that I wrote which was basically all of our songs. I never really spoke to him again after that phone call.

Great video man! You did an excellent job putting into words how I am sure many of us felt throughout this, especially those of us that came up with AILD in the early years. Obviously, what he did was absolutely morally horrendous and it can be understood why people wouldn't forgive him. The stress it caused to Nick and the other members of the band is also completely understandable. However, AILD had a major impact on the genre, myself, and many other fans. For this reason, I choose not to associate Tims's actions with the art they created. No matter how much I despise the choices he made, I could never stop listening to AILD. Shadows and Oceans are in my opinion 2 of the greatest albums from that timeframe with The Powerless Rise not too far behind. These records came out during my teenage formative years and helped shape my music taste forever just as so many other bands did on those late-night Headbangers Ball episodes. So, to sum it up...Tim absolutely fucked up and made a big piece of shit move but the art he helped create was pure gold!
