The only thing you got wrong is that Robinhood actually does have their own clearing house (Clearing by Robinhood) and it was actually the DTCC that imposed the increased collateral requirements. Other brokers like Fidelity didn't have a problem with this because they owned millions of GME already so they didn't need cash collateral to facilitate trades. (worked out great for Fidelity too because they sold their GME to the "apes" during the squeeze for some insane gains).

@@samsonsoturian6013 you’re the fool, the company has a wonderful relationship with their investors. Have you taken a look at the new leadership? Or how about the e commerce moves being made? One thing I want to say is that GameStop trade-ins were never actually as bad as people made them out to be. There was a value drop-off from purchasing new games because the instant they're opened they're not "new" anymore, but trading in games you bought pre-owned was usually only like 10-20% off the purchase price. That's for in-store credit of course. The cash option was always abysmal.

"everyone's a day trader now".........man. And even major BANKS including the top 5 in Canada "push" this kind of obscene gambling. In 1999 my little brother went to a "free" trading seminar and got hooked. He went through almost two million US of family LEGACY money in less than two years, and still thinks he's a financial genius. It rewires the brain, and not in a good way. Any yes, I dont' speak to him any more. Mom reminds me I used to change his diapers. How my parents and other brother didn't SEE this and stop it just ends my family name. Forever.

Trading options offers you an opportunity to work both sides of the market since you can buy and sell both call and put options. Therefore, you can shield much of your capital in the event that something goes wrong on the short or long side. If you don't understand the market too well, work with an advisor.
