This speech BLEW MY MIND when I first saw/heard it! For years Steve Kilby had put on the effete, inner city, artsy type act in interviews, then, here he is as the larrikin raconteur! You can be both, funny and make arty, sensitive music.

This was SOOOOOOO GOOD! All these years of rather angst ridden, moody, atmospheric, arty...brilliant...music. And we never knew there was this GREAT, HILARIOUS, PERSONALITY behind it all! This is one of the most brilliant, genius, funny, alive, spirited things I've EVER SEEN!!! Australian Legend, and giving honour to so many great Australian legends!

Wow, I'm glad The Church have at least been formally recognized in Oz. I'm a long time American fan of The Church and I lived in Sydney for a couple of years around the turn of the century. While I was there, it seemed like The Church were totally forgotten. Then again, the last ten years have been a stunningly productive time for the band, so maybe that's part of the reason for this acknowledgement of their contribution. Kilbey is a very lively and funny guy these days & it's great to see.

Congratulations. The Church............ONE of the GREATEST. I've been a fan since the beginning when i first saw them on (aussie)countdown. They just blew me away.Especially Marty's guitar playing and Richard Ploog's drumming. On stage Steve is serious after seeing him on this stage it shows that he has alot of humor. Nevertheless, their music takes one to another level. Thanks Church for all you've given us all these years and expecting more.

@ScottDouglasMaine I know, it's just seeminglt poles apart...but then again, a lot of geniuses, and a lot of other people, are like that. There's clowns and comics that are deeply serious and manic depressives, then there's sombre, lyrical, arty musicians, that are gregarious, animated, witty, hilarious, spirited characters! I think I've fluctuated between the two myself. One thing's for sure, Steve Kilby MUST do more appearances like this!

I really love the Stone Roses... but being a west ozzie girlie, The Church were like 'my Baptism' of a certain beauty in sound.... pretty sounds from 1982 helps a soul blossom to enjoy even more xxxx

@mistersmith6000 - It's not like the "enigmatic, aloof" aura of The Church/Steve Kilbey was something that we all became used to from familiarity. The Church only had three singles that reached the top twenty in nearly three decades and without the inclusion of one of those three on almost every "Get it for dad/ Buy it for Australia Day Oz Rock Compilation" most punters would be as familiar with Steve Kilbey and The Church as they are with Richard Ploog.Gre3at speech !

Best band EVER !!!...... unfortunately only the select few of us know that .....but it's true .....for me it's Pink Floyd because I grew up on every album , and the Church a very very close second because that proved longevity can make a band better than rehashing and reusing old formulas.....they never compromised theyr beliefs and each album up til Marty leaving - were absolutely brillant!!!!.....the last two albums feel forced and wet in effects ....Marty as as big part of the Church as Peter or Kilbey.......so for me - no Marty - no real Church......

You can tell there's Floyd influence right through the Church. Their "barstard universe" piece reminds me so much of the early Floyd space rock epics. Every bit as good too.

@SKOTP69 Crazy, huh? I saw him in the States solo acoustic 20 years ago and I was floored at the show by his intersong banter. I loved their music but remember wondering why the music reflects almost none of this lively sense of humor.

Richard Ploog, don't make me laugh.Nic Ward was the drummer on The Church of Skins and Heart,a musical genius who sang all the harmonies on Unguarded Moment .You'll notice the difference on all subsequent recordings, simple drumming and little passion in the harmonies.
