Joshua will always remember his mother as the woman who loved him the most and as the woman who denied him that the church had said all her kids were illegitimate.
For the longest time, he questioned where the sudden rejection had come from and tried telling his mother she was wrong but he received nothing but surrender.
On this episode of Men's Desk, he walks Joshua through his painful childhood, his hatred towards women, and why he prayed and fasted for his mother to die

I love this men talk section, we want men to be vulnerable and share their stories cause they're human, and they should know we feel their pain, and that they can share their stories in a safe space like this show....

This show has inspired me in ways I can't explain. Being brought up by a single mum of 8,an orphan herself and widowed at a very young age then remarried my dad but separated due to his drinking wasn't easy. My mum was bitter with life and her frustration got to us, couldn't take us beyond class 8 ...seeing my dad get lost in alcohol and couldn't help us and my mum's ill treatment towards me especially coz am named after my dad's mum and seemed I reminded her of her issues with my father made me hate all of them together. The day he died at his drinking den,I remember going to see his body at KU mortuary and felt nothing...but thank am healed,at some point mourned and released him,forgave my mum even though we don't have the best of relationships but we are good. Since then,I've experienced immense peace,got back to high school (Ngumbaro) and later graduated last year with a bachelor's. I believe forgiveness released me to my blessings that had stalled for years

I almost lost my son because of the church and i can tell you it's very terrible. Theirs this day day my son was beaten terribly untill today i still cry. Thank God i got cervical cancer i was chased away from the church and that's when i knew my kids are the only thing that i need to fight for untill today i still beg for the forgiveness from my kids. My advice is that dont let anybody to tell you how to love your children.

@@LynnNgugi True. Whistle blowers are looked like are judging these false preachers. Unfortunately there's so much falsehood, brainwash and manuplation in many churches. The reason is, many followers dnt study their bibles bt instead they rely on everything their spiritual leaders tell them without confirming in the holy scriptures. Spiritual illiteracy is so dangerous. Better be academically illiterate than be spiritually illiterate. A PhD graduate is reduced to a slave due spiritual illiteracy. What we don't know is bigger than us. Spiritual illiterate is the cause of all this manuplating, brainwash and religion slavery. If the gospel is not about christ and the risen christ alone and His finished work of redemption the gospel preached by the apostles , then it's another gospel and cursed is the one who preaches another gospel Romans 3 explains everything. True gospel is about christ alone. Gospel of money is the root of all deception. It's not gospel but families businesses in the name of churches. They use their members as their slaves in the name of they're serving God bt little do they know that they are serving their so called spiritual fathers and mami's.

This show has continuously taught me that am not alone…Being rejected by a mother is painful. When my mom got fed up with marriage, I was 17 and with two siblings, I was the middle one in form 4 🥹🥹💔 My mom chose to get married to another man immediately she left home and demanded that we join her in her new home if we ever needed her support. (Dad had already disappeared from home for years) We declined to leave our home. I remember one day my mom telling us that she will assume we are dead and she will go forth and birth other kids 💔💔😭😭 that hit us so hard. The story is that betrayal from a loved one is painful. Today both my parents are back home, we have a sister who happens to be the only child now at home, am happy and I hope one day my story will inspire someone. May God heal those who are hurting. There is life for those who seek God.

Joshua, Thank you for sharing your story. Out of the tears i shed as you progressed in your tale, allow me say this: first, your grandmum is your father. She has made you through school in the absense of your mum. Number two. I thank God that all these things happened to you so that you may come and share with us. Many lessons learn from your story. Number three. Probably, you would not be what you are now if these things never happened to you. We say that an African man is made from the hardships he endures. Comment from here Entebbe Uganda.

I can relate, this is a kamba thing called "iweto" If a woman is married and for some reason she can't bear children, she is allowed to find a young lady or say just a lady who would come with her permission to bear children for her. In this case, she will allow that lady to be intimate with her own husband or be granted permission to get kids from whoever man....but the full responsibility of taking care of the children is entirely on this woman who "married"her.... If I got right, the husband "munywoki" had passed on..thay why the grandmum of Joshua "married" a lady(the mum of Joshua) meaning she was allowed to get kids from whoever but the responsibility is taken by the grandma....the reason why Joshua can't tell who the father is... This is tough and can be tough even growing up and things to do with assets... We should ask God for alot of wisdom...and grace Some people have grown through hell growing up and judging them is the least we need to do... And these cultures, then So called Men of God and church misleading....it can be tough. I believe in God and Jesus Christ that gives grace and power to discern and actually transformation of mind that creates a new bring all together.

@@afriqueus1 Thanks. Am not sure about other tribes but hey, it's more in kamba tribe...and not shocking that it's still being embraced by some until today. Another tough one here, you find a man had say three wives...for some reason the young wife..ama one of the wives has just given birth to girls....like no male child ... Now for reasons of assets," I hope you get what I mean* this woman agrees with the husband that she will *marry* another lady so that she can get her male child... Imagine, that *married lady* will either go out there and get children from man...seeking male child... The responsibility of bringing up the children is on this older lady( who had girls only) together with the husband.... The surname of these children take the name of the husband.. Now, see the setup here a mix of siblings and step siblings and these others from *the married woman*.and issue to do with say land or assets. According to culture,they have right to inheritance... It can be such a mix and crazy conflicts say when the husband and wife( who married)... Passes on... I tell you alot of wisdom is required on handling such a situation when some people never chose to be in...they found themselves....

@@stargate356 I hear you, and agree too. I would also add that churches, being essentially a creation of human beings, are not beyond reproach, and the mistakes they make and sins they commit should absolutely be called out. They seem to cause a lot of strife..and for that reason alone, they should be scrutinized as they have a lot of power over a lot of people. Churches and preachers, as much as some may believe so, do not have monopoly over truth and righteousness at all. Infact they have been known to lead a lot of people astray, because they are abusive and toxic to their congregation. How does a church leader advise a mum to abandon her children? How is that godly?

When they lay their hands on your head, and pray in strange tongues, they are sometimes praying curses on you by confusing your "ori." Ori; your place of discernment, your site of connection to the divine; the residence of your organ of intelligence. DO NOT LET ANYONE PLACE THEIR HANDS ON YOUR ORI OR YOU CHILDREN'S ORI, MORE IMPORTANTLY, BECAUSE IT IS STILL IN A PHASE OF DEVELOPMENT.

Exactly, why the heck would anyone anyway let someone place hands on them for prayer? Learn to create your own relationship with God. Pray to God directly by yourself. Have a one one one talk just you and God. You don’t need someone else pray on your behalf but your parents and siblings. To pray for you, not putting hands on you.

I was watching a clip about a kisii man at Keroka area who was going through “depression” Haki akapelekwa hos and the dr gave medication and released him home after the wife worked so hard to take him there! It didn’t take long before he almost killed the wife but managed to burn the house with him and kids inside! Maybe this man was going through a lot and didn’t open up to anyone.

@janekamondo1991
@janekamondo1991 2 жыл бұрын
@@bujake956 This was very common in almost all tribes in Africa . Even among the kikuyus.When a married woman was barren.She was traditionally allowed to "marry" another woman to bear children for her .The tricky thing is that the children were not allowed to know their father officially.The woman who "married" their mother was refered to by the children as "grand mother" but she played the role of their father in terms of providing for them.I also hear she sometimes dictated the man who would sire the children with" her wife" This man/men would not claim the children cos they belonged to the one who paid the dowry ;their "grandmother". When Joshua talks about two grandmothers,he is referring to the maternal grandmother and the one who paid dowry for their mother and provided for their needs and is still alive. This is one of the many African traditions that has silently died with modernity.

One of the most healing story I've heard in a while. Traditions of men can really destroy especially when mixed with Godly things. It forms a religion that destroys. “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation]. Matthew 11:28 AMP Wa Christo! Hebu we remove yokes of religion so that we speak peace and healing

Sometimes mothers become toxic because they do not know how to love their children as they may not have been prepared for them. In the other hand, some mothers just dont have maternal instincts even though biological connected. I have a story to tell as l have a mother who never knew how to be a mother as she was a child herself when she had me. It's hard on a child as you yearn for this person you look up to as your mother to just love you and show that they care. Thanks for sharing your story. Great interview!
