What's up, guys! In this episode, I'm sharing my first impression review of the CI Log. This board represents a crafted traditional longboard shape, commonly known as a 'log'. It is the result of an extensive collaboration between longboard stylist, surfer Devon Howard and master shaper Wayne Rich. Their mission was to construct the ultimate longboard-one that could excel in every aspect from tip to tail, reaching the pinnacle of performance.
CI Log dimensions: 9'3 x 22 7/8 x 3 1/16 | Volume: 74.7L
Glas job: LOG/SG 6+6/6

Your cross stepping looks super smooth and balanced. My advice getting further on the board and holding it longer basically comes down to a proper set up before you cross step. I like to mentally break it down into 3 steps. First: stomp hard (basically as hard as you can) on the tail and set it in the water second: you will slow down (a lot) and move up the face of the wave third: begin cross stepping when you reach the pocket (too late, the wave will pass you; too early, you will move down the face of the wave). the ultimate goal in a proper setup is to set your tail and move the same speed as the wave once you have cross-stepped forward on the board, move back onto the tail once you move out of the pocket. rinse and repeat. breaking setting up for cross stepping into three steps has helped me a lot. note 1: its easiest moving fast down a straight line (adjusting the direction of your board while far up is very difficult), ideally you see a long, steep, peeling face infront of you note 2: no one really taught me this, i learned through watching pros

good vid, first time thinking of buyign a long board from CI... i see you have the 9'3 and im looking at one which is 9'9....just wondering what would be your opinion about the different length of these boards... Cheers !

Hey! Thanks for watching. Initially I wanted to get the 9'0" then I spoke to a few people who already have some longboards and made a decision to go with 9'3". It gives me a proper longboard glide. 9'6" would feel a little bit too big as I really want to turn more since the waves are breaking fast out here and I want to make turns faster and easier. I think after 2 sessions I can surely say that I found a perfect length. I'm 5'9" 175 lbs. P.S. I would have more challenges to move around 9'6" by living in a small apartment in New York City. If I surfed the points with perfect waves and had a garage with more space, I would've probably gone with the 9'6". Hope this helps.

Im curious...could you tell a difference between this log and others youve tried?

Glide, the ability to take off on unbroken wave .. Sometimes before it even forms properly.. just fun to cruise with speed, passing easily the sections that I would have hard time to work on shorter boards. It’s just a different mindset and surfing in general!

But in terms of comparing to other longboards that I’ve tried before .. I think the ability to take off much deeper on steeper sections and more maneuverability.

How much does it weigh ? Logs should be heavy 10kg at least.

CI has never been known for logs. look into bing or other companies that have been making logs and mid lengths sincethe 50's and 60's.

Devon Howard designed this board with CI. A former Takayama guy, he's legit and would know how to get it done.

@matthewguest5765 yea but for that kind of money you could buy a hand shaped board and support a local shaper or keep the iconic legends alive instead of these mass produced machine made board companies. Support your local shapers bra

@@cullanstrong3730 I own a Bing and three local hand-shapes myself, so I wasn't recommending the purchase of a specific brand. I was only trying to point out that CI has Devon's considerable knowledge and experience behind the Log so it's going to be a solid design, whether they are "known for logs" or not.

Not to mention Wayne Rich's contribution to the Log.

@matthewguest5765 very true but its still a machine made board. I bought a firewire special T timbertek that I love especially because I don't feel nervous surfing it on the rocks. if it dings or breaks no big deal there's a million more but hand made boards from well known names will definitely hold their value and maybe appreciate. When I got the firewire it made me appreciate the hand shaped heavier traditional log because there is no substitute.
