What's the textbook definition of bureaucracy? how do these people pass themselves on the surface to people??

@JohnnySalami6 best way to define it is to work in one and then it becomes immediately apparent.

I’m a veteran and perhaps that’s why I’m “mission focused”. It has driven me bonkers whenever I’ve run into a situation where politics supersedes logic, reason, and completing the mission. Your boss should have been patting you on the back. Instead he ultimately had to hire and train your replacement. Why are people so short sighted like this!?!

If an employee is making decisions that are solving problems following understood parameters that work out or not…there should not be concerns. Debriefing and reviews of past debriefs in certain categories maintains direction. Recycle old debriefing is a good thing to put on a calendar as well. 😮

As a finance guy, this crap is so unacceptable but also so relatable. Mission comes first, but you're damned if you do, damned if you don't. Approved a request but skipped a step to make the mission happen? FAIL. Denied a request to follow the beauracratic chain but caused a mission to flop? FAIL. Ugh.

Spot on... bureaucracy will always end careers of otherwise loyal people or cause those people to leave. Keep the BS out of military and intel, and let the people trained do their jobs effectively.

After being in a corporate environment for many years I'd have to side with your director on this one - regardless of your office "politics", you should ask someone above you for permission and in case of an absent supervisor it's his or her director, there's no way around that. It just seems like a justification for a choice to leave you already made before that.
@michaeldavis3819Ай бұрын
After years in the military, I'd have to side with Andrew. If lives are on the line and protocols are clear, you need to exercise clearly delineated authority. That's why the authority exists.
