I just replaced the factory clip with the titanium from Artisan and it made a huuuuuge difference on comfort. You’ll loose the deep carry, but it doesn’t ride too high and it makes the knife actually comfortable to hold. Worth the upgrade for sure.

A $20 clip for a $35 knife... *WORTH IT!!*
@destro69712 жыл бұрын
@@wumboqwark 100% worth it, for a few reasons: $20 is on the low end for a titanium pocket clip, it turned a $35 knife I hated in to a $55 knife I love and use all the time, CJRB only offered the knife with a stock Ti clip for a brief period and it was $65 bucks so I’m still ahead, and (most importantly) people can spend their own money on whatever they want.

I live in NY and assisted knifes wont ship here, It is nice to see something other than a Spyderco that will. I just ordered this (small) Feldspar in the natural jade, I cant believe more knife makers arent dropping the dye and doing this it looks so sharp...at least in videos! I also like the contoured handle and the brass pivot collar adds a little class, this will definitely make it into the EDC rotation. nice review thanks!

I have both. They are great knives for the price. As of 2022, it seems like most of the issues are fixed: sharp out of the box, zero blade play. The uncomfortable clip on the small one can be remedied by cutting 1/4” off the end with a dremmel so it still makes contact with no additional protruding clip end. Very comfortable after that mod.

Purchased this knife and while I like it I did have some issues. There was a gap between the blade and the lock to where when the blade was deployed and I shook the knife, it rocked forwards and backwards. I contacted support and when explaining the situation they instantly said “oh right, we’ll send you a new one.” This makes me think that this may be a more common problem/issue. Also they wanted me to pay shipping out of pocket to ship the blade back. I fought for a pre-paid shipping label. They said they would last week and I have yet to hear from them. Purchased directly from their website btw. Knife is nice if you get a good one. Customer service is a little less than desired.

I'm really digging what's happening in the budget knife market lately. Quality steels plus I think manufacturers are willing to be more creative at lower price points. This one has two sizes and several handle options around, again, good to go steel. The budget market is just more fun.

I have the small Feldspar and love it. Love the natural G10 "bile" color. I never noticed an issue with the clip. I must've gotten the one you tested here because QC was excellent -- well centered, no play, locks up solid, flicks nicely. I've realized that when we take a road trip and I can bring one knife, I bring this one. I even wore it in the ocean for a day when I forgot that it's D2 and not stainless.

@Nick I appreciate that you carry these knives for a couple of weeks or a month or whatever before you review them. What I would like to know is, what do you do with them while you carry them? To me, 'carry' just means it sits in your pocket while you're walking around. What sorts of tasks do you routinely use the knives for during your carry period? Do you have a testing methodology that you put each knife through? Or do you just use them as, when, and if the need arises and the actual use can be different for each knife depending on the needs of the day?

I actually ended up preferring the small one just from it's size between the two. I definitely think you probably have the best QC version ever because mine definitely came with QC issues. I have really bad detent play on my little one, to the point the blade can be lifted enough for the tip to stick above the handle. I've poked myself with it. Thanks for the review!
@jonduncansakurawallknifegarden3 жыл бұрын
I came here in search of the really honest reviews - glad I found you here buddy. I have heard nothing but awful things about lock rock issues , detent wobble and even side to side play that won’t cease even when you strangle the pivot and keep it so tight it won’t open. I have heard repeatedly that there are problems with the feldspar in particular , and the cjrb ria (the only two that I’m interested in tbh) and they both tend to have some serious issues that weren’t apparent in the beginning , and then started to reveal themselves as time went on. Did you have any lock rock issues with the blade being able to rock while locked ??? And I heard that people who had two of the same exact model, would have some with really early lockup, and some that are more than 75 percent lockup which concerns me that they have such a wide variety of lock geometry. But the reviews from Eugene Kwon are raving (but he didn’t receive the knife for free after gushing to them about how he liked the knife a lot - he may have had some bias there and I don’t blame him !) but I want the honest review because , every major reviewer is completely ignoring the issues we hear about and no one has touched on it, or has been willing to mention the QC issues here. I love the design, but now I’m worried about buying an archaeo or anything else before I get the real scoop - I don’t sell my knives and I wouldn’t want to sell one that has issues , and I’m not sure that they would let me return a used knife after it has issues. I want the real deal here - not the “oh my God how incredible this is !!” Reviews I’ve been seeing here. I wish reviewers didn’t get any knives for free , and I’m glad they disclose it, but that’s a really big “brown nose job “ from the co if you ask me. If I was giving special deals to the people who review my business, I would arrested. It’s illegal for me to act like that in team estate, but for knife sales it’s everywhere end kinda yuck to me. I come to reviews now, for the comments and the proper I trust. IE you buddy-/ you should start a channel.

This knife is really cool and fun to play with in the house... however using it outdoors is a different story. The action is very good at first but will slowly become not as great. Idk if I got a bad one but I literally any time I take this with me for the day I have to tighten the screw and clean / oil it due to the blade play that develops even after light use. Also, the blade will easily open in my pocket and I have cut my hand many times many times because of this... times. It Is very sharp when new but sharpening is a must. This knife will only stay effective with a lot of maintenance.... I mean even if all you do with the knife is flip it open for fun, you will need to tighten the screw often... basically I think it is a good budget flipper that will be a lot of fun for people that don't have any decent flippers and really aren't planning on doing much with it. Overall a fun little toy that will impress you with its action (until the screw starts becoming loose lol) but this will not be sufficient for hard use...

What I find odd with reviews is, one reviewer doesn't like the pocket clip because they don't go to the end of the handle. You say the opposite. Simple solution. Take it off. Choile too small? Buy a different knife with a different sized choile. Knife manufacturers aren't mind readers, and as such, they make a wide variety of knives to suit the individuals taste. Some knife owners don't like them, some do. Some like jimping, and some don't. There are so many characteristics of a knife that it is almost impossible to find one that has everything just right. It took me three weeks to select my first knife to the characteristics I was looking for in a knife. And still after selecting the one that I bought, it still wasn't 'the' perfect pick. I will just learn to accept and live with it. Just my point of view. Thanks for sharing the video. Nice knives. Cheers!

I have big hands and hate, hate, when makers enlarge the sharpening choil as a bootleg fingerchoil. It’s like putting a fingerchoil on a knife that isn’t designed to have it. It never fits my finger so never use it and when cutting, material get caught on the choil. Spyderco designs many of their knives with finger choil in mind they are comfortable and usable.

Another excellent video! Based on this review I bought the small Feldspar in natural G-10 (jade), and I’m sending it back. I had seen a few reviews that warned of quality control issues, and I got a bad one. The detent is so strong it’s extremely difficult to open with one hand. Impossible to flick. Also, the blade isn’t very sharp compared to my other knives (I can literally shave with my Cold Steel Pro Lite Sport), and it’s ever so slightly off center. You did warn me the clip was intrusive on the small Feldspar, and you were right. I would look past that if the action were better. I gave my girlfriend a Civivi Elementum for her B-day and the difference between them is night and day! I really wanted to like the Feldspar, but I’m going to spend the extra $15 and buy an Elementum for my main EDC.

I have almost completely stopped EDCing super steel folders, it’s just too much of a pain to fix nicks and edge roll overs. Super steels will damage just as easily as more mundane, plebeian steels. Difference is, I can make a D2 blade, scary, fucking, sharp, with a minimum amount of effort.

I messes with the clip to get it to my liking and lost the clip in another and it has done very well in the garage for years now . I also have a stainless n wood old craftsman that is absolutely badass . I think it was $15 or $20 back in 1999.😊. It’s been awesome for that long and a sharp blade is as easy as an insert is the best thing about a good small utility blade knife but the feldspar has been there when I needed her and she still good so far . I d use anythjng tbh I’m just praising it because it’s been and it’s more comfortable than others and the green hides the extra space for the clip if it bothers any f other collectors which I know it does 😊

Both are drop points so they will always have that commonality but TRM (everything but the fixed blade and nerd follow the same basic pattern and even then it's close) drops their spine faster and raises the cutting edge slower compared to the Fieldspar. TRM also uses a more pronounced curve on the spine of the handle giving it more of a banana like shape whereas the Fieldspar has a very Griptilian handle to me. Granted this is all done by holding my Neutron and mini-grip up to the monitor and comparing side by side so yeah I might be nitpicking it a touch.
