This is an excellent radio for it's time. I did many a contact from South Georgia (Grytviken) as VP8CLR sitting on the shingle beach surrounded by elephant seals and penguins. Amazing times.

Thanks for the video, I've just bought one and this has been very useful. I was told to only rotate the band switch in the clockwise direction as there is a chance of breaking the contact "fingers". After all this is an old lady now. You have made some great videos and I hope you start making some more soon. 73 G0ACE

Awesome, I hope the change goes well and looking forward to seeing it in action. As well as the kit antennas, please could you try out some home-brew antennas designed in the spirit of basic commodities? When I got to use a 320 during my radio training, I admired the ability of making of even the most horrible piece of wire, whether it was a strip of old extension cord or twisted-pair telephone wire, obviously cut to full-wave and quarter-wave lengths. The art of improvising is awesome. :D

Nice vid, I have this radio in my collection, as well as the 321 vehicle mounted h.f, did you buy the radio from Johnson's of Leeds? As mine was from there and all repainted! Do you have any other of the "clansman" range? I guess the 320 is the most useable out of the lot! Keep the videos coming!

As an Ex Radio Telegraphist, I was serving in the Royal Signals for the whole period Clansman was used, for replacing Larkspur to being replaced by BOWMAN, the 320 was a lovely piece of kit,,actually better than the Vehicle HF set the VRC 320. I once communicated to the UK from Belize using this piece of kit, and the appropriate antenna of course!

Please do an outside demo with the antennas? I am also leaning towards getting one of these as first HF station. 73s - M3GVZ

clockwise only on band select!! 73
@allsortsabouteverything5 жыл бұрын
Oooops!!! You just commited the No1 cardinal sin on a clansman. You turned the frequency selector anti clock wise. Doing this can endanger the contact fingers inside the frequency selector turret and cause an RF dead short in there. Not good. Put a label above the selector with an arrow and "clockwise only" on it to remind you. Hope you haven't already done damage,,,, 73's. 2E0LFD

I don't see it, any chance you could do an outside demo with the supplied antennas and everything? I'm really leaning hard towards getting one of these right now. Also direction to where one could purchase them for the best price (thus far I have only found them on KZbin).

where do you buy all your kit i go on ebay but have been stung enough to want to buy from a shop or reputable dealer. great videos!

Question: WILL it do LSB or only USB? I heard you mention USB at around 1:55
@normaneustice11125 жыл бұрын
Factory standard these radios only operate USB however you can get a conversion kit to add LSB but the dial is about 1.2- 1,5 KHz off. tricky mod to do but there are companies in the UK that sell them already modified by the Army well worth the extra money. I have one of the last production runs fitted with thick fins ( they don't break) & LSB expect to pay around £400 -£450 ( in Grade A1 condition) for just the bare radio. you may be lucky & get a package deal with everything you need to get you on the air. Superb performance guaranteed !

In another video there was a label above the "frequency range MHz" selector that it ONLY was to be turned clockwise. Don't see that here, and when you turned it CCW the radio appeared to be just fine with that OK. Strange.
@normaneustice11123 жыл бұрын
You are quite right the dial is meant to be turned clockwise, if it is turned CCW the pins on the contacts can & will break & are very difficult to replace. These contacts are directional in their alignment but this is never made clear apart from in the the original operators manual. 73's M0NJE

Mark, can you attach a antenna to the bnc connector and use the internal atu? if so which bnc connector would you use? Thanks
@Dave21086 жыл бұрын
No. the two BNC's are from the radio to the ATU as the ATU feeds the side connector for Long wire feed or 2.5 meter antenna. I do believe there is a box that can be fitted to the side socket and earth terminal and it then gives you a BNC socket.. that would then work through the ATU.
