The young girl at 4:18 had the groove in her soul, and her mother knew it. She didn't even need to egg her on.

I know that everybody writes things like what I am about to write, but I assure you that this time IT IS TRUE(!): I was there!!! Somehow, some way, my dear old Dad obtained tickets for one of these Bond's shows. I was in my mid-teens and The Clash was one of my favorite bands at the time. I still do not know how it happened but my Dad started listening to The Clash and, eventually, became a fan as well. He was in his mid-30's so it is not a reach to understand how he could have been hooked by these guys. And hooked is exactly what occurred to him. He freaking loved them. So, he was in NYC on business, saw that The Clash was playing a series of shows, and went to some high-powered friends of his in the entertainment biz, and lo and behold had 2 tickets waiting for us at the box office. I could not believe it. He called me the night before the show, explained to me that he had the tickets, and that I had to catch a bus from Boston (where I was going to school) to NYC asap. Which I did. Now, that particular stretch of late spring/early summer was brutally hot. I am not kidding. NYC was heating up the way only NYC can heat up, the sidewalks were throwing up that weird, hot stench and everybody was walking around with wet clothing and quick tempers. Just getting inside of Bond's was a task. It was PACKED in there with sweltering bodies and rotten, booze breath. I had some woman of about 40 hitting on me. She was little, pretty, and she was smoking tiparillos. I was not attracted at all. The opening act was GrandMaster Flash and the Furious Five. They opened with "White Lines (Don't Do It!)" They only made it through 3-4 songs before the audience starting chucking beer bottles at them. I guess a rock audience circa 1980's was unprepared for what they were bringing. They still aren't. Eventually the lights went down. The theme to "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" could be heard coming from the P.A. The lights came on and there stood our heroes. It almost was too much for my teen-aged brain to process. I had a hard time accepting the fact that I was standing close to and breathing in the same air as The Clash. Now on this particular night The Clash did not open with London Calling. Instead, they opened with I'm So Bored With The USA. I may have been only 15 years old but the irony was not lost on me. It has been almost 40 years since that night, and much of my memories regarding what transpired that night has evaporated away into the ether. Almost everything. The feelings still remain. That awesome feeling one experiences when one has no other desire to be anywhere else but where one is, that certainty that nothing else occurring anywhere else on earth could be more important, more relevant, than what is occurring directly in front of one's eyes. I know that I am not expressing myself as clearly as the subject demands, but no matter. If you have stayed with me this long, you know what I mean: it was one of those nights you experience in your adolescence when, emerging from the other side, you are not the same, and you know it.

I was there too!!! I snuck out of school with my boyfriend to get a ticket (none of my friends were into a lot of music I was into so I ended up going to several concerts by myself)...I was in High School at the time, and I just loved it! It was way too crowded and way too hot, but somehow it didn't seem to matter. Seeing the band live in such a small venue and hearing their amazing music so incredibly loud was, well, beyond words...

Wow, you actually captured what I went through in my life as you explained about "That awesome feeling one experiences" and you described perfectly about how I felt that very second

I was a Clash fanatic as a kid in the early 80s. This was the coolest song and it took me a long time to find it on vinyl.

I was there! The show that got shut down by the cops and fire department (as shown by the video with the horses) and then again for the replacement show two weeks later. Five years later I moved to NYC.
