Views from the trucks of Gavlin Harlien, Ryan Beat & Cleetus McFarland of the wreck in SST Race 2 at Nashville.
Who was at fault? Was it just racing? Keep in mind, a bunch of oil was in that turn from the Robert Stout truck early in the race. The Cleetus Roof Cam was lost in this wreck. It's either on the street or in the pocket of a track crew member.

I'm glad Cleetus is helping SST get more exposure. I've been telling everybody I know for years that it's the most entertaining form of auto racing you can find. Seeing how well Garrett drives against these pros I've been watching for years shows that his own personal success in racing has not been a fluke.

Don't know why everyone is ragging on the track layout so much... It was tight in spots, but that makes it challenging, get to see some strategy and skills. So Cleeter didn't get to finish another one, but at least the oil-down chaos didn't happen coming off the bridge at a buck & a half, he walks away unscathed and gets to try again. That's always a win for any driver 👍

Racing incident. Cleet slid wide because of the oil and as he was coming back onto the line, Harlien slid in the oil and got into the side of Cleet which sent him into "tank slapper". Once he pushed Cleet into the fence, Beat had no where to go. Plus that track layout is terrible for every type of vehicle trying to race on it. I am amazed that anyone can wheel an Indycar around that garbage layout.

Really cool to see this from so many angles of this incident. Of all the wild crashes I've seen in SST, the way they both had edges of their tires grabbing everything was a pretty unusual way for things to get out of control.
@spinal_capped
@spinal_capped 2 жыл бұрын
Wild! Should’ve probably included a camera angle showing the 55’s driver inputs. From the replay during the race, it looked like the issue came from 55’s overcorrection after the initial impact. Steering angle went from full right to full left, which pulled the 55 into Cleetus the moment the front tires regained grip. (I don’t think it was intentional, at least not in the way that Max’s driving was in the prior race.)

I get that they are part of it, but still, this didn't use to happen this much in SST, been watching it years.

@@StadiumSUPERTrucks At the end of the day, there is a reason why the corner marshalls are there. They are responsible for the tracks safety in their respective zones, and that includes being responsible for the tracks surface, making sure it is free from debris and fluid, and notifying race control of any changes. Doesn't matter if this is an exhibition race, safety is safety. And they failed to provide that. From my perspective, no one that was marshalling during this race weekends program, should be allowed to marshall another race, without some serious education on track safety. Because it was abysmal from top to bottom, and that is absolutely inexcusable.

Your comment doesn't really make sense tbh, he hit oil on the track and slid wide on the corner...he wasn't anymore aggressive on the throttle in that corner than any other corner for the previous 3 laps, and yes he lifted the front left and front right tire lmao, they have a Baja style suspension on big tires and on the street lmao, that's like saying a sprint car driver was too aggressive on the throttle in the corner cause he lifted a tire lmao....
@Rearmostbean

@@Iknow0 he is the only on to hit the oil though? No, he over cooked it. Then in the turn of incident Cleetus drove into the side of the black truck. @@Rearmostbean 55 hit the oil too lol...he over corrected and went into cleetus....he didn't over cook it ive looked at the wreck from every angle they have available and you can clearly see 55 be aggressive and not get off the throttle himself...and did the exact same thing in the previous race too...not favoring cleetus at all but the leader sets the pace and there were way to many laps left available for the 55 to pass clean and fair, he could have easily drafted cleetus on the bridge...he did it in race 1 lol...look at the 55 truck again prior to the accident, his whole left ass end went into cleetus causing cleetus to have to counter steer and when there tires connected while turned it caused him to go into the wall...cleetus had the correct line after the turn getting ready for the straight, 55 was being too aggressive..

I think this particular incident was more than likely unintentional. However it’s is a result of cavalier attitudes and willingness to slam one another. Wayyyyy toooo much! Rubbing is racing, and a little more rubbing in this focus is expected over other forms. But things are flat out of control. Cleet is who brought my attention to SST in the first place, And I really dig it. But I will not continue watching if it’s just going to be a demolition derby. It’s obvious that Cleetus knew this corners situation, and adjusted his driving accordingly. It is expected that the other driver would know and do the same. Instead he let his ego push him through it faster than he should have. And in reckless fashion. Let’s not even start on Max. He needs to be demoted back down to a league he belongs in, until he learns the difference between a race car and a bulldozer.

The show is as important as who wins. Robbie Gordon set it up that way like inverted field mid race competition yellows to group the cars up and so on. It is super fun to watch it driving looks like it would be similar to herding cats.

That's just racin' on a dirty track. Didn't appear to me that any bad intentions were involved. Cleetus is clearly a damn good wheelman, but Gavlin had the faster truck, so it was bound to happen.

The course layout seems to promote driving lines that intersect or get squeezed into eachother as the track narrows on corner exit. Just a bad track for maintaining flow.

Neither bump was intentional. Bump 1: Cleetus's truck pitched wrong for that much throttle (his fault). Bump 2: Gavin lost the rear end (his fault) Word to the wise... This is what happens when you let the balls touch.

Gavin lost rear end solely due to oil (not his fault)

@@brx3649 Racing doesn't work like public roads. Slowing down for "safety" isn't a thing. It is the job of the track crew to have the track properly prepped for racing. Leaving that much gear oil down on the track in a heavy breaking zone is 100% the fault of the track workers. You can't expect anyone to drive on that. Cleet understeered when his front end his the oil, and the black truck lock traction under acceleration...because of the oil. It's painfully clear you haven't spent a single minute on a race course, let alone actually racing. So take your clueless ignorant ass, and your bargain basement poverty insurance, and your uninformed opinions elsewhere. Because you literally have zero clue what you are talking about.
