The all-new Cliff Williams Icon Series StingRay Bass is the first in a series of limited handcrafted replicas made to capture the look, sound, and essence of iconic Music Man instruments. Initially dubbed "The #1 Workhorse", Cliff's 1979 Stingray has been his favorite bass for more than 40 years. Built to the exacting specifications of his original, every detail and characteristic was carefully examined and addressed. Body contours, neck carve, pickup construction, and decades of wear and tear were dutifully replicated by Music Man’s team of master craftsmen. The resulting outcome is a finely crafted period-correct instrument that looks, feels, and sounds just like Cliff’s #1 Stingray bass.

For real. Cliff's style is deceptively hard to get right...palm muting everything like he does get's pretty exhausting after a few songs

Nobody plays is right. I only heard Cliff do it with that tightness and roundness. I work on that for decades but he is the master. Everybody thinks they can do it but they can‘t

Cliff Williams and Ian Hill. Steadiest right hands in the business. Takes a lot more talent than you’d think to be able to lock down the bottom end and stay right in the pocket all night. Very cool ending the video with the Bad Boy Boogie bassline.

@Antoine Gordon you can get a job and do it right as to make yourself one of the most respected and well known bassists in the world or you can shoot for unlimited talent and potential and be a bassist like Jeff Schmidt or Evan Brewer where your skills are surpassed by none but you’re only really recognized at your own gigs and NAMM booths. You can’t compare bassists from different ends of the spectrum like that. They’re completely different animals.

According to ernie ball musicman's website, "All proceeds from the sale of this Cliff Williams Icon series bass will be donated to The American Alzheimer’s Association Gulf Coast Chapter who provides support and resources for those living with or caring for someone with Alzheimer's or other dementias" . So yeah, it is expensive but with a good cause

I have a fender bass it’s a squire edition I wanna learn the guitar because of Angus Young and Cliff Williams it’s something I’ve wanted to do for years. my brother gave me that guitar. Because he doesn’t wanna play any instruments anymore. And I want to learn to play a bunch of them. Because I want to do music in life. I want to live a free life no strings attached, no husband no children. Nothing. Nothing like that. These guys are definitely the inspiration behind the music that I have written over the years and what I want to do.

In 1985 I went to the big guitar shop in the next town over and was looking for a bass. They wanted $500 for an Aria Pro II. Went down the street a bit to the older yet smaller, privately owned guitar shop and got one that was prettier and $150 less. What a great bass. Stayed in tune no mater how hard we would jam out. 2001 my asshole son took it and my amp and speaker, traded them in for a big six string amp and he has never been in or formed a band. After that experience I would have a hard time paying $7000 for a bass.

Idont care what anyone says but Cliff Williams is a bass god. Hell Phil was a drum god and Angus and Malcolm were guitar gods. So simple it seems but so freakin hard to make sound right. Just pute raw rock and roll. Playing bass i have learned to really appreciate the simplicity of hard driving eighth notes. Shot Down in flames is so simple on bass but gets kind of painful during the solo. Then the fill ins on Hells Bells? It aint as simple as it seems. Most ACDC songs if not for bass wouldnt sound as good as it does. Thanks to Cliff Williams. I love playing ACDC on bass and it is out there as much as Angus and Malcolm. And Phil? That is a given on drums.

Don't know why they keep referring to it as a 1979 replica? Seems to have more appointments in common with a '77. Not so much a '79. There are subtle differences that early StingRay aficionados will note; -thru body under intonation springs('77) not offset ...like a '79, - "music man" stamped under the saddles('77) and not on the tailpiece...like a "79, -serial number on the neck plate('77) not under the intonation springs .. like a '79. TM logo that disappeared by mid '78. Guess they didn't want to take the neck off of the original.

Cliff plays just what is needed to make the song sound great without being too much or flashy, he's always been my #1. Bought a Sterling by Music Man Stingray the other week and it was about $500 Canadian, I highly recommend it, it stays in tune no matter what it's great quality and looks just like cliffs, but Mines transparent blue. It's honestly a hidden gem for the money. Technically the closest thing would be the music man stringeay which is 3500ish Canadian

@@jordandean3998 thanks man. I got a couple of stingrays already. But the new ones aren‘t the same. Alnico picks and compensated bridges and so on.

I've the Stingray Classic vintage sunburst, with Alnico pickup and 2 eq. band and I've strunged it with flatwound strings; it plays the same with an original '78 that I have. The Classic, for my personal opinion, is better, for some features, than the older; truss rod system, finish, weight (Classic is quite lighter than the '78). The Cliff Williams Icon is surely fantastic, but the price reflect, I believe, also the efforts for re-build an instrument with "ancients" components, with thats details, relic works, and very very artisan handmade work. For to play a similar instrument, you don't need to pay 7.000 USD.

Love Cliff but these replicas are just kinda bleh. Get an original if you can for far less. More important is to find YOUR sound by trial and error. Play different guitars, different strings, different pickups, play clean, play dirty, you have to try it when you can and you'll find what feels best, sounds best, and is something you can sense as your own.

I was aggravated with the bass in the mix for awhile till Ballbreaker and beyond. If you still can't hear the bass it's gotta be on your end. I don't agree all the songs are the same as someone who plays along. Some are similar. Some J.S. Bach is similar also. I mean it's 5 guys & their rock instruments. Are you wanting them to do a "Jump" so they can get out of that rut like VanHalen did so things will take off for them?
