The Closest Drag Race Finales

Every year, RuPaul's Drag Race has us guessing who will take the crown. Most of the time though, you probably already know who the winner will be. Other times, like Season 16, it’s anyone’s game! In this week's video, I'll run through all the regular season finales, and rank them by just how close they were!

To me, it was very similar to Sapphira, to be honest. Both Sasha and Sapphira were revered as these goddesses from the very beginning, while people fell in love with Anetra and Nymphia on the first episode. Throughout the seasons, both Anetra and Nymphia proved they deserved to win, with the support of a lot of fans. The only difference was really just Sasha, the pre-established contender, winning S15, while in S16, they went with the surprising revelation, Nymphia.

@@arctikstorm here’s the thing tho. People were selective in their appreciation for Sapphira which at times didn’t make sense. Like for example, Sapphira isn’t actually a good performer when lipsyncing as shown in the finale…and had she not had 4 wins to Morphines 0, she would’ve gone home on the makeover challenge. While Sasha had one challenge she shouldn’t have won, she was the CLEAR Girl Groups winner, and the win went to Aura. Sapphira’s Presentation win MADE ZERO sense. She wasn’t even the 3rd best. And while you could argue she should’ve won snatch game, none of the other challenges where she was in the top, would she have even been close to deserving of the win. Like this is the problem with hyping up Queens unrealistically, when they don’t win, there’s all this pressure, when in reality. This outcome made the most sense given what has occurred this season.

S16’s final feeling so ambiguous & even having a surprising winner shows just how good production had played this season. Even 2 the very last second, I didn’t think they were crowning Nymphia even tho I believed she deserved winning. I don’t even think Nymphia thought she was winning. A double crowning felt more plausible than Nymphia winning alone - Y’know, until Congeniality was also a double win with Sapphira.

Sapphira was totally forgettable and not unique in the slightest. Nymphia was the only viable winner this season. Only delusional fans of Sapphira could have thought the season was a close call.

Now way, on S7 even tho both her and Violet were "villains" Ginger had a worst showing and fans really did not like her (but that's like the whole S7 fiasco of production and their storylines)... And on AS6 she had a not great track record and the only thing she needed to redeem were her runways that still sucked, it was obvious that Rajah and Kylie had an advantage over her.

Gigi Goode walked in with an Im the winner attitude and was not too kind and showed little kindness towards others that took terrible abuse like Aiden. And I’m just saying Aiden’s drag had the potential to be so sickening. She was a threat to that Brita Hagness and I admire Aiden because she has great potential.

My ranking: 16- Season 15 ( i mean it was sasha colby meet and greet) 15- Season 2 ( Even i love raven, i can't lie that Tyra was the hole package and the winner from the start) 14- Season 6 ( call me crazy but bianca devoured the full season and was above Courtney and Adore) 13- Season 12 ( i put this season here for some reasons , 1- the hole ch*rry p*e situation, 2- gigi almost getting disqualified, drag race doesn't crown the type of queen in a row and crystal kinda has a similar style with yvie ( the past winner) so that left us with Jaida) 12- Season 10 : ( I know that aquaria was going to win , like in that moment eureka was having issues with the fandom , asia's butterflies sabotage and kameron having only one win and also having 3 bottoms in a row). 11- Season 8: ( It was between her and kim chi , but bob stole the final and also based on the edit i kinda know that she it was going to take it). 10- Season 13 : ( Even if symone doesn't have the best track record i know she was going to win the moment they announced the lipsync for the crown ( no shade to gottmik and rose , but neither of them are good lipsyncers) and the last person who is kandy muse having 1 win and 3 bottoms). 9- Season 5: (The whole jinx vs rolaskatox history and track record is the moment that i think jinx was going to win , like i don't think they wanna crown the villans of the story). 8- Season 4: ( I don't think Jaremi was an option for the crown for the most people at that moment , and chad did really well in the first half of the season , but losses momentum in the second half). 7- Season 11 ( I mean brooke and yvie were in the top for almost the whole season , so for me they were the clear top 2 , so it would base on the finale lipsync). 6- Season 14: ( Based on the top 5 , i know daya wasn't going to win because she is a returning queen , angeria dominated the first half , but really loses momentum at the second half , bosco had the chocolate candy bar and people weren't happy with that , so that leave us with lady candem and willow pill). 5- Season 1: ( When bebe send ongina home , the only competition that left for bebe was nina , so it would base on the final lipsync). 4- Season 7: ( It could be anyway like violet for the edit , ginger for the track record and pearl because she was fan favorite and wins the poll at that moment). 3- Season 9: ( Many of the people think that it was between shea or trinity , so it would be for gaggier that if they know that sasha would slay the lip sync agaisnt shea and being part of the top 2 with peppermint and wins). 2- Season 16: ( Even if i love nymphia, i was kinda expecting that Sapphira would win the season and also it was pretty close like nymphia has 3 wins and 0 bottoms ,and Sapphira and Plane having 4 wins and 1 bottom. Also honestly based on the edit i would think that they would crown either plane or sapphira, but nymphia really stole that final lipsync). 1- Season 3: I mean all the top 3 has 3 challenge wins , but to be more specific, Manila and Raja have the same track record so...).

actually for season nine I think that, for the production the top 2 should have been Shea and Sasha. Trinity and Peppermint knew that so Trinity chose Peppermint for the semifinal lipsync.

baby, u got season 9 all wrong... sasha was the runner up to shea in the eyes of the producers and sasha was the fan favourite (by quite a margin, may i add). thats why trinity chose peppermint, btw. when they found out about the format, trinity and peppermint made a pact that they would choose each other because that was the only way to secure that one of them made to top 2, otherwise, the producers would push shea and sasha as the top 2 (and in that case, i think shea would've won)

Season 12 should have been closer to the top. It really was neck and neck between Jaida and Gigi. There’s probably an alternate reality out there where Gigi won. We don’t really know if Gigi was actually disqualified, and given the fact that she was still actually in the finale shows she probably wasn’t lol.

I think one of the reasons Gigi didn't win is she's a very similar type of queen to Aquaria who won in S10: a young fashion queen with a lot of polish. And unlike other fashion queens like Violet or idk Symone, I could see any of Gigi's S12 looks on Aquaria S10 and vice versa (like Tyra Sanchez in S2 they're both *SO* young they haven't carved out their particular style quite yet.)

Gigi was threatened with disqualification, not actually disqualified. She just had to film her finale again at home, which is why she was still allowed to compete. (Production also likely would have panicked if they lost both Gigi and Sherry)

Adore never had a chance at winning, Bianca demolished. Ru just made production film a double crowning to humiliate Courtney Act after Courtney calling out her transphobic statements. Courtney had a much better run and Adore just made to the finale because of all of her charisma, because her performance was very, very basic.

Ben de la did great all season long, and was eliminated in a design challenge despite being the best at it.....Adore won with a simple white ballerina dress I am 1000% sure she was helped to do.. Bianc was helped many times, I dont think she demolished anything

Regarding Sasha Velour, she's one of the few queens who made it to the final without having to lip synch for her life. She was in some group dance numbers, but I don't remember her performing on her own. I had seen quite a few Velour KZbin videos before the season started and knew how creative and surprising she could be, but moat of the crowd had no clue. It turned out to be a big advantage for her to first spring the full Velour on the audience during the finale.

They were behind Raven just cause she honestly was more charismatic than Tyra, as in, Raven kinda played to the audience and just had a personality that was more featured on the season. In a way Raven was more of the narrator of season 2 than Tyra was.

Honestly, All Stars also has many very close finals, AS2, AS5, with AS3 it is different since the 3 real finalists were "Removed" from the competition, Bendela, Shangela and Bebe, setting the best track records of the season. - BenDela (5 Wins + 0 BTM) - Shangela (3 Wins + 2 High + 2 BTM) - Bebe (2 Wins + 1 High + 1 BTM)

US allies, the United Nations, A-list celebrities, fashion brands, and the Olympics were all rallying behind one specific person to win. Sapphira, or anyone for that matter, winning against the fan favourite/money maker was as likely as Kandy Muse winning against Symone or Jimbo. Only a fool would think S16’s outcome was surprising.

I think well look back at season 16 and think it was more likely that nymphia would win since in season 15 sasha colby won, someone professional,well rounded and had winner energy all season long. Saphira sort of fit into thay archetype and they wouldnt crown the same kind of queen 2 seasons in a row

I've disagreed with certain All Stars winners, UK winners, other franchises, but never the 16 original seasons. Werk. (Ofc now, considering how problematic Sh*ron N**dles is, I would want her to be decrowned, but it seems like most ppl are aware, and her career is dying)

let´s be really honest, everything about Season 7 always comes to the fact Katya wasn´t chosen as the winner of the lipsync battle against Kennedy...if Katya made it all the way to Top 3, it would be her even considering she wasn´t at her best back then, but Katya made Season 7 less painful to watch...Violet was (and still is) alternative fashion fetish queen perfection, Ginger is a great entertainer, but Katya was the heart of that season...we now know very well that Pearl only made it to the finale because Ru and the producers expected to rely on the fact Pearl is handsome out of drag, which is disgusting (they kinda did it again with Kameron Michaels and it was even more gross because Kameron is just a muscular guy...they really treat the audience as dumb thirsty gays, and the worst part is: they´re right)

Love the video, but some placements are veery sus. Like, S6 and S15 were not close AT ALL. It was pretty obvious who was winning both of those season. In retrospect, S8 was clearly Bob's season, but it felt closer than S15 and S6.
