@vietbluecoeur3 жыл бұрын
@Riotdrop I do agree that oversympathetic stories for the Killers aren’t always fitting, but I’d definitely argue against Spirit being an example of this! She’s less a yurei (which are more benign ghosts) but much more an _onryō,_ and if I remember right their stories are _always_ that they are killed horribly and so come back as an unstoppable force seeking vengeance. Just like with the classical story of Oiwa, or even the more modern take with Kayako from _Ju-On/The Grudge,_ Spirit was a victim who got viciously murdered and so became something terrible in turn. It makes sense for her to have never killed before entering the Entity’s realm; Oiwa and Kayako never really hurt anyone either before they themselves were killed.
@oireal72613 жыл бұрын
@Riotdrop I wouldn't necessarily call all the Killers "villains", it's far too generic a term for the wide array of backgrounds in this game. Take the Plague for example. She believed wholly that some divine God would save her people from their illness, and when a God finally reached out to her, it was the wrong one being the Entity. Believing the Entity to be the divine power she so desperately needed, she committed to praising him and following his tasks under the guise of faith. Adiris is not an evil person because she kills Survivors and sacrifices them to the Entity, that's just what she's been tricked into believing is necessary to appease the God that reached out to her. The Wraith and Hillbilly are also examples of characters who've been forced to lead incredibly difficult lives and when given the opportunity to take vengeance on those that have wronged them, they took it. They aren't bad people because they took revenge, but it's how they took revenge through murder that paint them in a villain aesthetic. In comparison, Myers, Trickster or even Clown are truly evil figures who are selfish, murderous and purposely bring pain to those around them on any occasion they can for the sake of pleasure, enjoyment or even a twisted vengeance. Not all the Killers are villains, but many of them do villainous deeds.

I think a major difference between the Doctor and The Clown in their evils is that the Doctor is merely apathetic. He doesn’t care who he has to hurt to get what he wants, which is knowledge and power. The Clown is a sadistic person. It's kind of ironic that one of the least popular killers is one who was able to get away with his killings largely because of how unwanted he was. Whatever investigation there was for Kenneth's murder in his hometown never caught up to him. His fellow circus employees, while amicable, never intervened with any of his other vices. You can't expect me to believe that Jeffery never showed up 15 minutes late and blitzed. And even when that one victim escapes, everybody is glad to just chase him off and hope he doesn't come back. It's true that the state of crime investigation was (is) a bad joke. But whenever the Clown ran away to avoid confrontation, he was simply allowed to. All of the hiding he did was in plain sight; he's a boogeyman not by his own prowess but simply because most people wouldn't give him the time of day.

This could even give an interesting comparison between Michael Myers and Laurie Strode as the clown obsesses over this young woman, building himself up to do to her what he did to moustache except she escaped and pretty much blue balled his murder lust and could even show how in his mindset he sees her as the most corrupted of all the survivors as this irredeemable trollop simply because her escaping and alerting the circus would reinforce his everyone's out to get me mindset.

It just occurred to me that even in the cartoon, the Clown is an unreliable narrator, even to himself. The cartoon shows Kenneth bouncing the bottle back with his stomach and hitting Mustache with the bottle, but this makes no physical sense. Then we look at Clown’s new outfit, which sports his face and back burnt down by acid. What I find best about Kenneth and his lore is the irony that the most realistic and down-to-earth depiction of a serial killer in DbD is a morbidly obese bottle-throwing clown man who runs around at Mach 9 speeds having a coughing fit, and how much that all makes him stand out alongside the other killers.

It's strange how some characters get completely ruined, whether it's through a cosmetic description or through archives such as Susie or the nurse but other characters can be greatly elevated like Yui and Kate.. and then there are some like the clown. You get no surprises from their stories. Their character doesn't change. You know exactly who you're dealing with and they nail it. Dude gets erotic thrill from killing. It's as simple as that. His power is drugging his victims and his music sounds distorted. He enjoys licking fingers so he will take them by any means.. and worst of all his name is Kenneth...

I've always loved playing The Clown, not only because of his gameplay and appearance, but his lore. I think most people can't remember what Clowns backstory is because it's complicated compared to other killers. As you have displayed in the video, he has no mercy compared to other characters. ok but hear me out... Imagine you've heard rumors about the guy who has the job of being the wearer of the mascot suit for a local fast food company. Sure the chicken suit was always a bit quirky and was probably the only reason your parents felt it was alright to leave you in his care while they went and had a much quieter lunch that was free of the normal headaches of the rampant populations of squealing children. However; you honestly felt a cold shudder of fear every time the chicken man looked at you to wave goodbye...something was not right about the thing under the mask. It wasn't until many years later while doing a project in criminal psycology that you realised how often and how narrowly dodged a pedophilic, psycopath who commited deeply disturbing and sadistic acts on numerous children over the course of the 10 years he worked for that fast food company...that is somehow strangely still in buisness, and the location in your town recently employed a very familiar looking mascot to stand guard over the children's play area... and you look out your window...only to quiver in horror to see the imposing, fat figure of that same man, in his grotesque chicken costume; standing outside your window, under the light of a flickering street lamp, playfully waving at you from across the darkened street. imagine that and then tell me that the chicken costume isn't scary as shit.

when you let your guard down, he will catch up and overwhelm you. both his lore and his gameplay. survivors may think they have the distance, but the clown can close that distance faster than most other killers. the chase with the moustache man... Kenneth tried to force him to go one way, but the man went somewhere else. this, however, made no difference, for kenneth still caught up with the man with very little effort. this, once again, matches his gameplay. he tries to corral survivors one way. however, even if survivors don't go the way you want them to go, you can still easily catch up to them. "let's play". To clown, all of this is just a fun game... and a game he always has controll over. this, once again, matches his gameplay. his bottles are nothing but small minigames. is it a yellow or a purple bottle? do I go through the gas and get slowed, or go around/somewhere else and possibly end up in a dead zone/disadvantageous situation? and no matter how survivors choose, clown ALWAYS has an answer to keep him in controll. there's a lot of little nuance in his lore/story that perfectly matches his gameplay, which very little killers really have. that is why I love his lore so much. Now, that animatic at the end is also designed so they don't have to animate a grizzly murder in a horrific scene under the guise of a hallucination. But imagine if it wasn't. You're hallucinating, trapped in a clown car, with a giant man who has strangled you, played the Knife Game with you, using your hand and mutilating you in the process, gouged your eye out which mutilates you further, thrown what is basically acid at you, stabbed you in the chest and stomach multiple times, and then just took your last remaining finger on one of your hands as a trophy while you bleed out and die. Doesn't quite seem so funny now does it? It uses the goofy animation to desensitize and distract you to watching someone be brutally murdered. "Not everyone out there is as harmless or as silly as they look" sticks even more when you think about it.

I know I'm very late to the party, but I'll put my input on this. The Clown is a killer who seeks control. He is a combination of Gacy as well as Dahmer. Like Gacy he takes great joy out of torturing and killing his victims. But like Dahmer, he collects body parts as a keepsake, they also seem to enjoy human flesh. So I believe his whole reason for killing is not so he can serve the entity, but rather so he can he can feel in control. This is just a guess and Hopefully we receive more info about the clown. He is an interesting killer that should be explored upon.

Gacy used to manage his local KFC. Mr. Chase as a chicken makes a lot of sense. I wonder if he was Dwight's boss at a fastfood place at some point.

I like the ominous warning at the end, Pixel. Quite a way to close out the video. Don't know how you feel about guns, but I have a couple and a couple swords to keep at bay the monsters of this world, so I will take your warning and run with it. As for the breakdown, it is top tier as usual. I like how the Clown has been fleshed out as a character. It takes into account his own backstory as well as his reputation in the game to make him into a clumsy and goofy figure, but also a dangerous and evil bastard. It truly highlights how proper parenting is crucial in a child's life. I almost felt bad for Kenneth....until he continued his evil ways even after getting a new life. Because of who he's based on, I especially loath him. As I said on Twitter, I love Kate. She has a special place in my heart, and knowing that Kenneth probably has.....fantasies surrounding women evidenced by his general desire to dominate as well as the VHS porn makes me absolutely disgusted that he is her associated Killer. I know what he would do to her, and it makes me want to unleash certain violent acts on him in turn. That aside, I like how the Tome portrays him as evil but goofy at the same time. It truly does explain why people wouldn't be threatened by him, which makes him all the more dangerous. He's insidious, and possessed of a very evil mind. And speaking of the law sometimes lacking when it comes to catching these monsters, it makes me understand why some would want to go vigilante and take matters into their own hands. I know I would be highly tempted if I encountered someone like Kenneth. My own inner thoughts aside, this is a great video, Pixel. I look forward to how you destroy the Trickster 🤣

I heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Life seems harsh, and cruel. Says he feels all alone in threatening world. Doctor says: "Treatment is simple. The great clown - Pagliacci - is in town. Go see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. "But doctor..." he says "I am Pagliacci." Good joke. Everybody laughs.

I love this video, the Clown is my favorite character from this game for a reason. And you summed it up well. Despite the way he is seen by the game’s community, I take him seriously. They would if they found themselves in his caravan 😂 But he resembles every qualm I have about the world that we live in. He’s just so well written and colorful and he doesn’t get the credit he deserves as a character.

I really liked the Clown’s original story! A powerful statement on having so much power with no repercussions. It’s just, the way he looked and how he worked in the game did not match his story. I’m glad they changed him to make him seem more comical, but the dreadful idea of a killer in disguise would be so much cooler.

13:32 I'm not usually one for semantics, but I think it's important here not to call it an "homage" to a serial killer. An "homage" would imply a deep respect for the subject, like honoring their memory... John Wayne Gacy is unsurprisingly, not someone who deserves to be honored or respected. "Reference to" is more applicable here.

i also noticed this when reading up and the lore of the killers every single one of them besides the clown and legion had some extreme backstory and unfornate events that lead them into becoming monsters EXCEPT the clown and the legion. freedy kreugar and Micheal myers leatherface and hillbilly all grew up in abosive households were they were hated and never taught to be normal the gunslinger was shatte on his entire life no matter what he did or tried to do simply for being "forgin" the wraith was a innocent man whos sanity shatterd to pieces as he realised hed been unkowingly killing dozens of innocent people the nurse similer was a innocent person whos mind shatterd from the horror they witnessed the huntress is literally a wild woman who never was taught anything involving what it is to be human the demogorgon and nemisis were created by outside forces to be monsters the oni the pig and the doctor were normal people whos grizzly professions with high ideals slowly threw time twisted them into abominations the spirit and hag were innocents who awefull deaths created phantoms of vegance barely resembling who they once were etc etc but the legion and the clown are like the majority of real life serial killers the clown a example of a killer who kills simply to satisfy a desire for power and a complete lack of caring for humanity and the legion examples of pure childishness of the kind of killers who kill for stupid petty reasons out of nothing but uncontrolled blind acts of emotion.

Ghostface? That man kills people purely for fun, leaves the families a taunting note and then writes about his killings in the newspaper

You'd have to go into the 1978 Halloween novelization to see it but apparently Michael's father was the guy that was caring on the outside but an absolute monster when the doors closed. Apparently Michael inherited his madness in some part from his father and his dad refused to get him help (there may have even been domestic physical abuse as well.) Ironically Michael's father was as evil and depraved as the Clown. Only difference is he wore a suit.

I also use Bamboozle and trying to get the best chase perks I can to just be a menacing never stopping killer that will catch up, no matter the pallet, no matter the window cause I'll go faster than you expected and laugh at you in the deep laughter of the Clown and his dying lungs.

One of the things that are interesting about the clown is that his body shows him trying to find new outlets for his need to kill. Food, drink, and well the other activities, were him trying to self-medicate and it ending poorly, plus going to a psychologist when that dirt poor in the 30s in America was less likely than now by a country mile.

This is my favourite video of yours. Because man does it just display the IRL horror of the clown; very clearly based on a number of real killers, and horrifyingly, like them, he turns away from his second chances to commit more horrendous acts. And unlike them, he gets a free pass to keep DOING IT. FOREVER. Horrifying. Utterly appalling
