Gaming Pastime reviews The Club for PC.
Developed by Bizarre Creations and published by Sega, The Club was released for PC in February, 2008. The Club is a third-person shooter with a fun and addictive scoring system but without it, it would be very average.

I have watched numerous reviews of this unique game since it's initial release & this is by far the best comprehensive profile on the game I've ever seen, excellent in-depth points & it's the first review that is enticing towards playing the game! This is one of many game reviews you've done over the years that has made your channel the success that it truly is, your channel is in my Top go-to game review channels period.

Good, comprehensive review. I was one of the QA testers on this game back in 2007, it was very enjoyable to work on. Those explosive barrels caused a few problems when they were part of a set-piece. For example, there's a part where if you shot one of these barrels, the adjacent car would explode also. However, you could roll the barrel down the street, shoot it, and the car would still explode. That was one of my better bugs found. Thanks for the video, it brings back some cool memories.

These comments are so cool to read, I love this game dearly and I think it's so underrated and it's so sad that the potential was never realised with a sequel, is there any other stories you remember of the game?
@studas2011

@@enlightenedone8353 Hi, yeah, it was definitely underrated and it was a novel idea at the time, blending 3rd person shooters with racing. Other things I remember? Hmm, let's see... I remember that the rockets had smiley faces on them but you couldn't see them in the retail version (without screenshots) because they moved so fast; you had to use the debug menu to see it lol If I remember rightly, it was a red and blue target with a yellow smiley face in the middle. I also remember in the late Alpha stages when the lasers for the sniper rifle were implemented in multiplayer and we had like 16 (might've been 8) red lasers beaming in all directions testing each part of each level for about a week haha I listened to a lot Nirvana on my lunch breaks too :D

@@studas2011 wow that's so cool I'm geeking out 😆😆, I read an article back in the day about they lead dev wanting a sequel along with some of the ideas he had (zombies, real crowds in the levels etc) and it all sounded so cool, I know I'm talking years back now but do you ever remember if there was any cut content that didn't make it into the game? Also a great choice of music to listen to on a break 🙌🙌

I've never played this but for some reason I think about it sometimes. It's interesting that the people who made the Project Gotham Racing games made a gritty third person shooter about some weird Running Man style event.

I didn't see you roll during your gameplay. Did you know you can roll and add a death roll to your combo? Or the fact you can ricochet bullets and get a ricoslay?

This brings me back to the nostalgic time when i was too young to tell the difference between great and not so great games before purchase. The risk of wasting all the saved money on something mediocre was almost fun in itself

Ditto brother. Putting something with a cool cover in the disk drive and seeing what you got was so great! Second only to the feeling of buying a copy and excitedly flipping through the little game handbook during the bus ride home.

Ah, me and my clan friends at the time sure had a ton of fun with this game. The multiplayer was really fun, and I rather enjoyed the single player stuff already. I always wished we would have gotten a sequel, but as you said that's so unlikely to happen since Bizarre Creations was shut down long ago now and the best we could hope for is a spiritual successor of sorts. Though I imagine since Sega still owns the IP rights, they could just hire a studio to make The Club 2, but that's a long shot.

Love this game, I remember being a teenager and checking out some guys playing it at a local store. Was one of the reasons I got an Xbox and I was not disappointed, still think it looks fresh and plays just fine. Shame it was a shallow experience, but a very fun one regardless.

playing the mercenaries in resident evil 5 has a more varied and thrilling approach on keeping your combo going. its not a fair comparison but i remember playing this game, but the fact you can play resident evil 5's mercenaries with a friend and you both hold down other sides of the map strategizing on when to group up together once things gets hairy is just truly special. im sorry for the club for the way it is. im not really making a point here its just i feel like this type of game has been done much better. if there is something similiar to it, its resident evil village's approach of running through getting time extensions and racing to the finish of the map while keeping a combo going and getting combo enhancers, sounds familiar? which ended up being one of the worst ''mercenaries'' experience for me. so really, maybe the game design just does not mesh well for most people.

A spiritual successor WAS developed! 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand is a carbon copy of this game except a traditional linear shooter and not on a circuit. Also James Bond 007: Blood Stone was released 2 years later by Bizarre, another 3rd person shooter.

imo the artstyle is what works against the game. If the presentation and artstyle where different (more out there and colourful or the total opposite gore and dark) it would stand out way more and perceived differently then that-bland-failed-linear-tps instead of an unique score attack arcade shooter. To be clear, I have the game (x360) and I like it a lot.
