There were actually people getting up and leaving when Beyoncé performed at the CMA's to protest her being there at all. What's wild to me is that you have artists like Jelly Roll and Jessie Murph who have hip-hop influence in their music and it's still considered country. At this point, let's just call a spade a spade. To be country = white. Anything else is not country. Country music discriminates against writers as well. A lot of country acts don't want to be associated with black writers or will ask you to ghost write. I remember a really bad experience that I had with a big country star who has since crossed over in Nashville.

Beyoncé said it herself, “this is not a country album it’s Beyoncé album”. I love beyonce but cowboy Carter is not a true country album nor did beyonce make any effort even network herself in the county spaces and scenery. Sorry but the entitlement of people thinking Beyoncé deserved a nomination when she refuses to play the game is not logical. Beyoncé did not show up to any country music red carpets, didn’t show up to any country festivals, didn’t make any effort to engrain herself into the spaces and y’all think the CMAS is gonna just reward her with a nomination just because she’s Beyoncé?? Nope. Personally I think the cowboy Carter album is a good body of work as a Beyoncé album with Americana, and country influence, but as a TRUE country album it falls flat. The 2nd half of the album wasn’t even country it was a mixture of Italian opera on the song “daughter”, “YA YA” was rock n roll, “2 hands to heaven” is alternative R&B, Bodyguard is soft rock/soul, Spaghetti is hiphop/rap, & Tyrant is a Trap-R&B.
