Much respect from a Sabres fan & Buffalonian. Hope you guys can make something happen while you have Tkachuk. Loved that kid since the World Jrs that was held at the Bills stadium when team USA were wearing basically Bills jerseys for their uni & he yelled "BILLS MAFIA" coming down the tunnel after the win. I mean I love his game & him for other reasons. But that definitely helped. If we could have figured out a way to get Dahlin & Tkachuk out of that draft.......well one can only dream lol.

I loved Lindy and he will always be the the classic Sabres coach, but 15 seasons is too long for anyone and the team was playing terrible that season. So they attempted making a spark by firing the coach (Fans demanded it for the most part). He was behind the bench from when I was in 2nd grade until I was in grad school. It was time for a change. Don and Adams are best now.

Long time Devs fan here ( like the retro jersey Hockey Guy) & gotta laugh at all the insane young fans at the Rock that were calling for Lindy's dismissal last year- and then apologized to him during the current winning streak. He 's a great old school hockey guy who fits perfectly to provide the right tutelage to a young NJ team. Lou Lamariello would've have fired him by now.

The first two losses looked exactly like how the prior seasons under Ruff went, I can understand the chants. I turned the second game off disgusted, thinking it could be another season down the drain. Then the team made 5 years of progress in span of 10 games.

Got to give a lot of respect to Ruff with his coaching career. I never liked him as a player and I wasn't to fond of him when he coached the Sabers but he is a very good coach. He did and still does get a lot of blame for things he shouldn't. In Dallas he couldn't hop on the ice and play goalie for them (although he's tough enough to have tried). After he took over for Nolan the Sabers were one of the toughest teams to play against every night. This is a great idea this coaching career videos. I'd be very interested in seeing more. May I suggest Pat Burns to be at the top of the list?

One of the greatest coaches of all time! He did so much with Sabres teams that didnt have much scoring talent in the late 90s and early 2000s. He turned a young Sabres team in 05-06 that missed the playoffs before the lockout into arguably the best team in the league for 2 years. We were picked to be one of the worst teams in the league that year and went on a crazy run that will live in the hearts of Sabres fans forever. Did it again with NJ. I think theyll be right in the conversation for best team in the league next year.

Finally a coaching review of the Lindy Ruff era in Buffalo! Whenever anyone asks me about his time there I usually respond with… “Well led them to a Stanley Cup appearance in his 2nd year. But I don’t know, after that it kinda felt like they hung onto him for the next 13+ years hoping that ‘99 playoff run would comeback any day now.”

Great video! But his career is more than just the numbers. He really deserves a deeper dive by someone on the more storied moments of his coaching career. Including general things like his overall coaching style and philosophy, and his demanding relationship with certain young players, and his relationship with ownership and the community, to specific stories like "no goal", the brawl game, etc. Also not mentioned was his tenure as assistant with the Rangers, and the fact that Lindy's first playoff mini-drought coincided with Hasek getting traded away for Viktor Kozlov. Also, you didn't really get into the disaster of the Devils this year.

I missed this video when it came out 2 weeks ago. As someone who watched all of his playing and coaching career, I can easily agree he's a Hall of Fame coach. There is no need to cheapen his accomplishments with statements like "Well, he had Hasek and Miller". He won in Buffalo. A LOT. Just try to name a quality center he had. Go ahead. I'll wait. Oh yeah, Briere, wow that guy was incredible. So much so, almost no one wanted him. Drury, I forgot, a third line center on a cup winner. Right. Never has a coach made something out of nothing, like Ruff down the center in his coaching career. HE HAD NOTHING. He had to win with guys like Derek Roy. Fifteen years and almost nothing offensively. His best player was Vanek. At least now in Jersey he has some high draft picks at center. I'm not convinced they're as elite as how high they were drafted, but they seem to have some talent. A lot more than he's ever had before down the middle. Give him a couple more years and they'll be making significant runs in the playoffs. Good luck Lindy. Wish you were still coaching the Sabres. Although, the guy we got now appears to be pretty damn good too.
