I meditated under Ajahn Martin for many years (online alone). This was a teaching that hit me the most from the Ajahn. In simple terms, he would/does teach his new disciples to keep digging a (w)hole in front of them and see what fills it up. When it arises keep digging. Or keep the heart shining bright and keep moving forward. He does teach to fight Khleshas, however, as I did. At one point I was perched on the precipice of that whole and it just burst into light as I refused to go down it. I do not attach to the light as I have experienced similar phenomena in other meditative and Christian traditions. A secular teacher of feminist Buddhism once taught me a similar technique through Feeding one's demon, whereby the light is your ally, according to her. But, I speak of someone in debt to a government. Of which I cannot escape to even understand your reasoning. Yet I can afford the luxury of the internet to listen to those who have let go. I suffer like any other under whatever the hell this is. Even if I wanted to I cannot even afford the bus ride let alone the food offered to those who live off alms. "It is like this", you cannot take Buddhism out of a social worker but you can take the social worker out of Buddhism? For it is like this, come go I do not care. Ain't it nice to have prison visits, but I have never been there.

I sense the weight of your heart. The struggle between the world you inhabit and the peace you seek is a familiar one. The Buddha, too, walked this earth, experiencing its joys and sorrows. The path inward is not a retreat from life, but a deeper engagement with it. The mind, like a garden, needs tending, but its fruits are meant to nourish the world. The Dharma is a tree with roots in the earth and branches reaching for the sky...it is both personal and communal. From reading your comment, it seems your challenges are real, but rest assure you are not alone. Many have borne similar burdens. May you find strength in the face of adversity. Remember, the journey is not about reaching a destination, but about walking each step with mindfulness and compassion. With metta.
