This story is absolutely heartbreaking. Every time I see a picture of Emmett, it makes wonder how much evil can reside in the heart of anyone to look at this child and do such horrific things to him. Pure madness…

Good morning April. You said; "all behind a white woman lying" The white woman lied in court, one month AFTER Emmett had been murdered. Carolyn Bryant had nothing to do with the murder of Emmett Till One of the cousins, Maurice Wright, made up lies about Emmett assaulting Carolyn Bryant in the store. Then Maurice Wright told Roy Bryant these lies. Enraged, Roy Bryant assembled his lynch mob.

Carolyn Bryant is still living her life and Emmett Till is dead and this was 67 yrs ago and the Till family want justice even to this day. Carolyn Bryant even lied and both the murders who killed Emmett even bragged and told their story for 4,000 dollars and it was published in a magazine. Carolyn Bryant is living under a different name. Unbelievable she is still alive today*** There was NO justice for Emmett Till. Finally his story is being told and now people will know what happened to him thanks to Whoopi Goldberg for producing this movie and getting it made. First let me just mention a couple of things missing from this story. Mamie talked about how Emmett would talk so fast at times that he would start to stutter. She would then tell him to slow down and whistle when he felt himself struggling to get his words out. Story has it (don't know how true it is) that the wolf whistle he did was due to him starting to stutter and not directed at Carolyn as everyone thought. Again, I don't know how true that was. Secondly, Carolyn stormed out of the store heading to the car to get a gun of which she pulled the gun from the vehicle and held it down by her side. When the boys saw that, that's when they all hauled ass like a bat out of hell. But what really messed me up about Emmett's death was the fact that a black person told on him. That pissed me off more than anything. Had it not been for that black guy hounding Roy about it, Emmett would not have lost his life in such a horribly gruesome way. Sometimes people don't know how to mind their own business and leave well enough alone.

I loved to watch Eyes On the Prize. They had a segment on Emmett Till. There was black female who didn't want her face to be shown. She was also at the Bryant's store. She said Emmett had asked for 10c worth of gum. Also I think (It was so long ago) she said he mightve tried to put the money in her hand but was directed to put it on the counter. That day there were other teens in front the shop. It was said that there were 2 elders playing checkers and Emmett whistled at a bad move.

"It was said that there were 2 elders playing checkers and Emmett whistled at a bad move." It was said by whom? Emmett Till's lynching was the SECOND most publicized murder in the 20th century. Second only to the assassination of President Kennedy. There were 100 black and white reporters who covered Emmett. There were 600 stories about Emmett in the New York Times alone. There are no unanswered questions about the lynching. ___________________ But there are revisionist who, in the last few years, are trying to alter the story. There has never, ever been any question that Emmett wolf whistled and Carolyn Bryant. But that is ALL he did.

@@dejstoney "this is what slave mindsets to do" It was much more mundane than that. Maurice was jealous of Emmett. Emmett had nice clothes, he wore shoes, he had more education than most adults in the Delta of Mississippi. He had more money than an adult black man made in a month. He wore a ring. And his Chicago accent was not like the teenager from the Delta. He lived in a two story brick house, and played in parks like nothing in Mississippi. And Emmett did not have to pick cotton. _____________________ Now, I don't know if Emmett represented a threat to a relationship Maurice had with Ruthie Mae Crawford. It took 62 years for Carolyn Bryant to tell the truth. Did she think that she was going to get a medal for confessing that Emmett Till never even whistled at her?! Did she think that her confession would bring him back to life?! What a fine time to tell the truth about what really happened! The hate is real. The fact still remains that she is just as guilty as those who killed Emmett Till, and that's something that she will have to live with for the rest of her life. What's sad is the fact that she knew the truth all along.

That’s where the story got twisted up through rumors. And there were lots of rumors circulating that caused Carolyn’s name to be tarnished outside of guilt by her association to Roy Bryant. You mentioned in your dialogue that a black man told Roy Bryant that Emmett whistled at his wife. According to sources, including the FBI files, the person who told on Emmett was his own COUSIN, Maurice Wright, Mose Wright's son!! It was said that he was jealous of Emmett because he wore really nice clothes and shoes and he felt that Emmett was bragging on how good things were in Chicago. When Maurice told Bryant, it was said that Bryant gave him a 50 cent credit to use the next time he came to shop at the store!! I'm sure Maurice had no idea how bad things would get!! Years after Emmett was murdered, it was said that he withdrew from the family and developed a drinking problem. I read in Emmett's mother's biography that Maurice stopped coming around the family and that they hadn't seen him in decades and heard he died a homeless alcoholic. You have to ask, was that 50 cent credit worth it?? Also, a correction to the circumstances surrounding the beating and torture of Emmett, he was NOT castrated!! In his mother's autobiography, she said she examined Emmett's body and his penis was intact.
