Great to know what people think about this track that we recorded over 30 years ago..and yep I have got a live recording of how we used to do it slowed down somewhere...I'll have to dig it out.

still exploded in orbit here... this sound becomes more definite now as this age drifts into the digital entropy.....

Recorded July 12th 1980 @ Central Sound Manchester as part of The Colors first EP Mambo Girls and Dancing with Joy are the other tracks. A compilation album is available on itunes - 'Stroll Upon the Wall of Sound'......Enjoy!

I bought this record in 1981. Thoroughly enjoyed it ever since. Knew nothing at all about the band, never saw them live, never heard any of their other records (if they made any other records). Mean mother of a riff! Made Bauhaus sound like the Bay City Rollers.

I don't know who else may have covered this song, but there are bootleg live versions of Mazzy Star/Opal covering this song. It was once a regular feature of their live shows. The Mazzy/Opal version is slowed down compared to this original, making for a different sound. Both versions are good.

Great stuff. I still have the EP which was superb. Released at the time of the New Romantics, it did not stand a chance in hell but has stood the test of time very well. Love the nod towards James Williamson circa "Raw Power" at the end of the track.

No problem. I could add I read somewhere there are live recordings somewhere of The Colours Out of Time doing a slowed down version of the song. Opal/Mazzy Star likely heard & liked the slow version. There are a few different recordings at YT of Mazzy & Opal doing the song.

So you do leave comments that don't insult the artists... I'm familiar with The Colors Out Of Time and the original "Rock Section". I find Mazzy Star's slowed down, psychedelic version to be light years ahead of this more "primitive" song. Still, it had something that made David Roback want to cover it. Mazzy Star covered a few bands from the Paisley Underground scene that they started (as The Rain Parade and The Dream Syndicate, then later as Clay Allison 1983/Opal1984-1988/Mazzy Star 1989-2014. I have no agenda against you, I simply disagree with you. I don't see negative comments here. This is how it should be done.

I just don't like Mazzy Star's version of "Rock Section." That's all. Sorry that you/me disagree. It's all about opinions, eh?

Yeah man. I've heard the Paisley Underground scene stuff and don't like that, either. I like the original 60's punk/garage gear.

But, The Monsters do up to date 60s garage; about the only ones I like doing it.
