It was a tactical IJN victory, although the Japanese Army’s failure to retake Henderson Field did prevent it from being a strategic Japanese naval victory as well.

Why Germany don't built aircraft carrier in the second World War
@timgosling61899 ай бұрын
The title hints this will be a poor one, even by 'Dark' standards. Victorious wasn't particularly large for a fleet carrier, let alone 'colossal'. She was about 10% smaller than, say, the contemporary USS Enterprise CV-6. To illustrate the attack on Bismarck was there no footage of a Swordfish dropping a torpedo? While operating as 'USS Robin', although she was repainted in USN colours and her aircraft carried US markings, Victorious still sailed under the White Ensign. Victorious was not designed in light of experience from previous conflicts. There had been none since WWI, and naval aviation had since changed out of all recognition. When talking about Illustrious class carriers it would be nice to show one, or at least one from the right decade. 2:06 is the 1920s cruiser conversion HMS Glorious. I think you mean the Illustrious class emphasised armor over 'aggressive stances', although all warships are pretty aggressive. Is lacking armor more aggressive? Were battleships 'passive' because they chose not to be sunk by the first hostile shot? Weird. Octuple guns have 8 barrels, not 4. By 'the British air service' I assume you mean the Fleet Air Arm. The armored flight deck did not reduce aircraft capacity. That was down to the fully enclosed hangar spaces and centrally mounted elevators. The flight deck was not 'covered in bulkheads and sides'. Please rehearse and think about script before going final. Why on earth do you say when she was hunting the Bismarck she was 'lacking the necessary aircraft for maritime operations'? She was carrying only aircraft designed for maritime operations, and they did pretty well. Why show US aircraft supporting the Bismarck raid? Bismarck was not sunk by aircraft from Ark Royal, althought they did hit her rudder allowing her to be caught by the ships that did sink her. Victorious was not leased to America. She was detached on loan with a British crew. Royal Navy ships do not usually fly the Union Jack, they fly the White Ensign, as you show. Victorious did not have to go into dry dock at Norfolk for her theatre entry equipment to be fitted; that would have been a gross waste of resources. Is that USS Forrestal at 9:33? Certainly 1960s. Victorious was never officially named USS Robin, that was just her radio callsign and it became an informal nickname. In the UK it's just '8-3-2 Sqn'. 'The 8-thirty-second sqn' is a pure americanism. Greenock is pronounced 'Gren-ock'. The attack on Tirpitz on 2 Apr 44 resulted in some flooding from near misses that put her out of service for a few months. But none of the 14 hits penetrated her armour. No Lancasters were involved on that occasion. Nowhere in this video is there any explanation of how HMS Victorious was going to act as an alternative to the atom bomb in ending WWII.

Can you just get through one video without at least one howler in it? (Ark didn’t sink Bismarck)

Stalin and moustached man both were on the same side of leftism.

Some simple factual errors in the script. Sorry.

So why the stupid thumbnail.

These aircraft carriers were under armed, slow and had lousy aircraft. If they had to fight the Japanese without American support they would not have lasted a single month in combat

Very cool I’d never read about this !😊

Sorry to throw a spanner in your work, but no american carriers had wooden top since 1941!
@neilgershon9289 ай бұрын
Essex class had wood decks, built well past 1941.

@@neilgershon928 I know this because I tripped on the deck of the Hornet during CarrierCon 2023. One of the wooden boards of her flight deck was sticking up at one of the corners. I was ok, but my right leg and arm hurt like hell the rest of the day. Word of advice: never run across the flight deck of a museum ship that saw action in WWII. You'll never know where tripping hazards may be hiding.

Do you write your narration? It's done very professionally. You should be a popular voice-over artist for documentaries like this.

Another click-bait title, and inaccurate information along with footage clearly not the Illustrious. I honestly don't know how you can release such made up crap and call it history.

It's a shame that the commentaries of these videos seem to have been written by non-native English speakers with a poor command of the language and a superficial knowledge of the subject matter.

WTF happened to this channel, why the click bate. There are real world designs and ships that could have been used for this, the H.M.S. Vanguard or the planned successors to the Iowa class battleships. your going to loose subs doing this click bate BS.

Oh, give me a Break. The Bismarck was not sunk by Aircraft. It was disabled, slowed down, and the rudder was jammed. But it was a British Battle ship, not sure Prince of Wales maybe and some Cruisers that finished off the Bismarck. You should know that, your a smart guy. Do you need some one to look over your scripts first, to correct mistakes? I'd be happy to do it.
