This is such a great video! I love when people chose to be their own ethnographers, especially if they come from misunderstood or disenfranchised communities, because there's nothing more empowering than taking charge of your own narrative. I'm African-American, and some of the elements of Colored culture that you've captured in this video are very similar to my own. We get pinned with a lot of the same stereotypes too.

This is amazing, I read many comments and the many critics, it's sad to see people would dictate to these wonderful people living and embracing their identity. You have no right to say these people cannot claim what is there's. It may of stemmed from a horrible past where leaders were clueless. It did however ever bare fruit into people living their live to their own will. Many people from mixed background deal with hardships and identity crisis growing up. You may not like the term "Coloured" to these people it's their identity. No law no other race can change that. Live free my Coloured people embrace you're identity let it be fruitful. Stay Blessed and Stay Loved.

This is probably one of the best comments I received on this video. Thank you so so much. We will also probably always have ro deal with critics and I guess that's okay. But the beauty about this video is..... It was done as an group assignment while I was still on University, and we were required to upload it to a site such as KZbin... Never have a dreamt that it would receive so much attention... And while l can see now, a few years later that there are changes that could of been made at the time... I appreciate that it is RAW... PS.... I think I should get in contact with my colleagues and do an updated version 😁 #wink. Again... Thanks so much

I am from Trinidad in the Caribbean...also mixed race...(English White Mother and Black and Indian mixed Father). I have never fit in with white people and would never be accepted by black people...which is so crazy for me growing up loving all races because of my parents. I have always felt like an outsider as I think most mixed people do, but I have never seen anything like this in my entire life!!! A whole area and community for mixed people...I mean this has to be the most racist thing I have ever seen and was created by the racism of Whites AND Blacks! At the end of it though, like I said, I have always felt like an outsider....I would walk through that community and would fit in everywhere. I wouldn't have to act more white around white people and more black around black people; I could just be me. I don't know if I hate it or love it....but I think I have to see it to feel how it feels to fit in and have everyone look like me. Thanks for the video, this blew my mind.

Note :The term coloured is also very misleading as coloureds residing in say Northern Cape are very different to coloureds in Free - State. "Cape coloureds " (Cape Town/Western Cape coloureds)are the most well known as this is the only city and province in which coloureds make up the majority also we created an identity for ourselves ,which coloureds in other provinces havent established or been recognised for yet.We (Cape Coloureds) are also the most heterogeneous as our racial/ethnic admixture is much more diverse than coloureds In towns and cities.

Well done to you all on this Social Experiment. Some of the issues addressed herein does represent our customs in contemporary South Africa. However to understand why we are what we are as a People we need to go back to the narrative. On the 22nd of June 1950 Act 30 of 1950 was enacted by the Parliament of SA. Under this Act for the first time the Brown People were classified by Law as so-called "*COLOURED*". Under the Definitions Section of the Act the term "Coloured" was highly stressed a "Gemoedsbekakte" and defined as People who think with their skin, who is without an identity in other words a complete nothing. But on 28 June 1991 the Population Registration Act 30 of 1950 was repealed together with other Apartheid Acts for ex, the Group Areas Act. So there in lawful terms does not exist such a thing as a "Coloured" even though the BBBEE Act made reference to the term "Coloured" in that piece of Legislation. It is not right.
@joshauro96523 жыл бұрын
By stripping away that term, you are stripping away these peoples identity. No one has the right to that. By stating these people use of that is wrong. You have no right to say. It's theirs they own it.

@@joshauro9652 Khalid is a derogatory term. Khoi is our true identity. Aboriginals own this land. We are rich. We don't even have to work so the term colored keeps you far and very wet behind your ears in terms of who you truly are. Khalid has no land. No voice. No identity. No stance!

@@getalifestopspyinghacker3285 What you don't understand is that I have many various racial backgrounds. From Black, White Indian as well as Asian. Most Coloured People share that same background depending on their areas. You can't justify by calling yourself Khoi when you're complexion facial features is nonwhere close. That is idiotic. A biracial person if mixed between black and white doesn't automatically make them Black nor does it make them White either. There is much more into it than you think.

Let's start with the word culture. What does that mean? A culture consists of 3 things in a combined group namely, ideology (religion & beliefs), shared way of life and artistic expression. So called "coloureds" share none of those things so there is no culture. Secondly the word coloured is a derogatory term imposed on us by our oppressors. I am mixed race not coloured. Thirdly, most of the things you claim as part of our "culture" is not ours and was forced upon us then passed down. Now "coloureds" label it as their culture. Also, the new year celebration is not due to apartheid but infact slavery and that is the masters they are referring to. I can go on and on, but please do your research before making any videos about "coloureds". This doesn't empower our people, but instead keeps them in the dark.
