The kukri is a powerful tool. Years ago i owned a cold steel ltc kukri. Went through wood better than any axe i owned. Even the traditional styles are great knives.

Kabar has a nice handle on it. They use that same handle on most of their knives. That's the traditional kabar handle. Thanks for sharing my friend I'm trying to refrain from buying that one right now because watching your videos the last few weeks I've spent over $350 buying knives.

I have the larger k bar kukri machete always wanted to sharpen the swedge so it would have a piercing capacity.The swedge goes to halfway along the blade so you have a large leaf shaped blade with a piercing tip.If you could use it properly like your Man seems to be able to it makes a perfect combat knife😊

Good video. As far as kata's are concerned it helps if you have an instructor that knows a lot about the kata they are teaching. The biggest thing that I've learned in my over 35 years of kata training is understanding principles that you can apply in several different areas of training. When you are able to get the lower body and upper body to work together tasks that are related and not related to martial arts training become more efficient and easier. I have done some land clearing with a machete and thanks to my martial arts training I got a lot done and then slept well because my entire body was sore not just my shoulders/arms. With today's technology it's a good idea to video yourself doing a kata because in doing so you can see the good and bad in your movements and work on improvements. I practice at least 1 kata every day, sometimes more than one depending on how my 65 year old body is feeling. Some martial arts styles like American Kenpo have sets that are also useful along with kata training.. Kenpo Finger set teaches you how to brace your fingers together for striking and avoiding damaging them. Keep up the great work.

I'm in the process of getting one, but I do have the kabar bk4 machax and it's a beautiful blade definitely recommend for a combat blade and survival blade. I always carry it along with a few other knives when I go hiking and camping.

I love mine, I've used it a lot and a good portion of the coating has worn down to steel. I've brought the edge back further for even better Slicing. It has its flaws, but if I had choose one of my knives to fight with, this would be it, no doubt.

I’ve got the big brother to yours. I got it in 2005 for jungle warfare training in Central America. It’s still going strong. It’s not as combat oriented but I wouldn’t argue with myself holding it 😜. You should try the Tops Cuma Tak Ri if you get the chance as it is probably the best ‘martial’ Kukri IMO (despite the sheath you must replace). I’ve served with the Gurkhas and was gifted a traditional kukri by them. A Kukri is their multi tool. Don’t believe the nonsense about it has to draw blood if it’s drawn that’s just not true.

Hi Daniel! Would you be able to get to your Combat Kukri or any other self-defense tools in time if home invaders started kicking in your door while you're relaxing or sleeping at home? If so, how would you recommend setting up a home so that you and your loved ones are safe in any part of the home they may be in if criminals were to strike? After all, of what use is a Combat Kukri or any other combat tool if you can't get to it in time in an emergency?
@411Outdoors Жыл бұрын
Great question👍 my primary home defense weapon is my shotgun (5 plus one capacity) and I can reach it within seconds. The key is being able to buy time. I have good locks and an alarm system allowing for response. My back up weapon on me would be ESEE 4 tactical double edge for close quarters. If my Kukri was my primary home defense weapon, I would keep it under the bed most likely. For those who don’t have a gun or can’t come back cookery is great because it’s good for clothes quarter environments.
@roseivory8496 Жыл бұрын
@@411Outdoors Thank you for your reply. You mentioned you have a shotgun for home protection. Have you done simulation drills and timed exactly how long it would take you to get to it, unlock the safe, chamber a round and aim, etc. from a resting, sitting position in the furthest part of your house away from your gun safe? Would you be retrieving your cell phone and dialing 911 on the way to your shotgun or after you already had the shotgun in hand? Thank you in advance for answering my questions! :)

I loved the video, think I might invest in this one. i own an original nepalese kukri, and for the love of all thats holy. Do not try to use it for stabbing motion, it will seperate your fingers from your hand. So the western take on a kukri with a fingerguard is an absolute step in the right direction designwise, these are awesome blades ☺ I guess this is a repeat comment. Love your videos, keep'em coming.

Very good review ! I have two Ka-bar combat kukri knives. I like them because they are fast and sharp. They can stab and slice. As for myself I judge a knife with four different capabilities. Stabbing, slicing, lopping and blocking. So I have a tendency to flavor blades at least 10 inches or longer. I think the Ka-bar combat kukri can stab and slice well. But will not break bone or easily go through bone. It is light so that is a nice plus to it! Again excellent review! Check out the Spartan Harsey Kukri . It has a little more weight for lopping with about the same length blade.

Cold Steel kukris are fabulous tools! Also, you may want to check out 'House of Kukri' in Kathmandu, Nepal. They have a website. Kukris originated in Nepal. They're military still use them & keep them razor sharp. They make all sizes. Grab a hand full of tissues before you pull them up. You'll drool all over yourself if you're anything like me. 😁

Okay, looks like KZbin will not let me post a URL on your channel. But I still think you need to look at this khukuri. From Khukuri House Thamel, is the Mini Supreme Deluxe. It has an 8 inch full tang blade with a half guard, birds head pommel and a lanyard hole. Not to mention a thumb notch on the top of the blade. So it is more of an all around Khukuri, not only as a weapon, but as a tool also. I do like Kabar knives, but for a Khukuri, it has to come from Nepal. Stay safe.

I think if you went and did Muay Thai and boxing you would've found out that all those times with katas were an absolute waste of time. You would've learnt much better footwork to fight with knives from boxing itself. Kali is a must.
@411Outdoors10 ай бұрын
I took to Muay Thai more than I did karate for sure. I also got into Kali in recent years and discovered that the movement of the katas I learned in the past did translate well. People shouldn’t see a kata a way to learn how to fight. It’s just a unique form of changing direction and moving. I’ve learned to see every style as valuable.

That definitely looks like a practical size kukri for someone who doesn't want a usual size kukri. Look up Iain Abernethy here on KZbin and your mind will be blown by the purpose of kata. There's been a renaissance in the last 20 years in karate concerning the original purposes of the techniques. I'm willing to bet at least some of the kata that you were taught, you'll find on his channel. Also Les Bubka is another one to look up. Those two will take you down the rabbit hole :)
