The Comeback for the ages - Serena Williams, aged 30 was sidelined for the end of 2010 due to a serious foot injury which led to a pulmonary embolism and blod clots in her lungs in 2011. On the long road to recovery, including continuing loses and injuries, Serena kept fighting. After losing in the first round of a slam for the first time at the 2012 Roland Garros (French Open), Serena changed another gear mentally, using that loss as her motivation to power through a tough draw and matches at the 2012 Wimbledon Championships, taking both the signles and doubles titles before wining gold in the London Olympics and the US Open.
This is a testament to her the illness that nearly ended her life and the loss that could have ended her career, yet instead she fought through both, winning a career defining 5th Wimbledon which relaunched her career and brought her back to PEAK level!
The GOAT in every sense of the word!

Let us not forget that just a couple hours after her finals win she came back out on Center Court and won the doubles title with Venus against (in my opinion) one of the great doubles teams of the era, Hlavackova and Hradecka. Also, it is worth noting that her play at the Olympics a few weeks later is arguably one of the absolute greatest tournament performances in history. No one was even close to her level at any point in that tournament, including world No. 1 Azarenka. Serena's absolute obliteration of Sharapova (also ranked higher than her at the time) in the final is one of the most flawless tennis matches ever played. Not to mention she and Venus again beat Hlavackova and Hradecka to win their third doubles gold. Any one who ever doubts this woman is an absolute fool. She will be done with tennis when she says she's done and not a second before. She is, has been, and will always be my fave.

Mr Hutchins, yes preach, preach!! Yessss. However, i will be so sad to see the sisters retire, it's inevitable. I do love to watch tennis, but it won't be my priority when they give it up. They can then take all that moolah earned from tennis and all their start up businesses, ventures, investments, etc. around the world. Funny how when they were in school, commentators would make negative comments about how they thought to become professional players and still go to school. Hmmm, who has the last laugh NOW, lol. I like tennis but it won't be my priority when they leave. So I guess I can focus on getting some work done in and outside of my home,lol

This video glosses over the changes that Serena made in 2012 pre-WC, to set herself up for future success: hiring Patrick M. as her new coach and remaining in Paris to work on her clay court game after the RG loss. With the coaching team, Serena's forehand was improved, her serve was tweaked, they added focus on footwork and more clay court conditioning, on top of other little details. Serena's mental toughness was more impenetrable in the 2000's but her technical skills improved under Patrick.

This upcoming Wimbledon 2021 is her best chance of winning a slam. The grass requires quick adjustments, short backswings, and athleticism because it doesn’t give predictable bounces. If Serena is serving well she will also get free points on grass. Grass is also such a specialized surface that players who performed well during the clay court season carry forth little advantage transitioning to grass. Serena, if fit and serving well, will have good chances winning on grass. The US Open is tough to win because it comes at the end of a long hard court stretch. Additionally, Serena isn’t the best player on hard courts. Osaka and Azarenka are probably the two players who are best on hard courts. Not surprisingly, all of Osaka and Azarenka’s 6 grand slams have come on hard courts. I will never question Serena’s desire or passion for the sport, but she seems itching to have another baby and I don’t see her playing beyond 2022.

Her record should actually be 24 Slams. The cheating against her was so blatant, thus they HAD to change the game. There’s always one player that comes along in every generation that takes their sports to another level. Unfortunately, those players are also the sacrificial lambs that EVERYBODY else benefits from. Such as, Jackie Robinson, Mohammad Ali, and now Serena. These winners were taunted by mean fans, media lies, body shaming, etc all by their own country, because they looked different. Serena's movement was incredible and she would have lost half of those matches without her superior movement. In the four finals she has been in since becoming a mom, this level of movement is missing.

For me, the biggest shock was seeing Serena defeat Defending Champion Petra Kvitova. I was sure that match would be the end of her comeback.

Can’t stand tennis fans at Wimbledon and the french open especially...Its golf claps when Serena hits an amazing winner,but when her opponent hits the ball out or into the net,the groaning aww from the fans is louder. Jealousy just consumes those fans.

Its a good video. But to be fair - the article about Serena never winning another Slam was in Jan 2012 so 4 month before the French Open and was not a result of the loss against Razzano...

People won't admit it but Serena has to get in shape again to have any hope of winning another GS. The young women today are too fast and strong to be beaten by anything less. In all those videos she is at least 15-20 lbs lighter with a more reliable serve. That should be the goal.

F Margaret Court. Eleven of her wins in "grad slams" were in Australia before the tournament there was even a "Grand Slam". Most of the top players and all of the Pros did not play there before the open era.

Nope, that is not true technically. Ms. Court got most of her titles in her backyard, where she played against second class players. In those years, the big names did not care much to travel all the way to Australia.

Is there anyone from the group of doctors to confirm all these life threatening situations Serena was in allegedly or it was a little bit spiced up for the media and her brand? Asking for a friend
@swinde
@swinde 3 жыл бұрын
Pulmonary embolisms are life threatening. She had them in both lungs after the 2010 Wimbledon when she cut her foot badly and also after childbirth. This was partly caused by her immobility during these events which allowed blood clots to form in her extremities and travel to her lungs. This is a life threatening condition.

It's probably true now she will probably not win another slam at this point. Time has caught up. She hasn't won a single tournament since her comeback from pregnancy. Came close in the 4 slams but it just didn't happen. Now can't even make it to finals.

@@johniii8147 While Serena will turn 40 in September after the USO and it would seem she should be on her way out, people were saying the same thing in 2012 after her French Open first round loss. She had 13 slams at the time. She now has 23. They also were saying she was washed up in the AO 2007 after losing a warm up to the AO. She pummeled the #1 Sharapova in the final.
