Ha! Just watched The Iron Lady, and it´s funny to think that the joke about Thatcher being played by meryll Streep in the Hollywood version of the Miners´ Strike practically came true 23 years later. :D And a great job she did too.

Without a doubt one of the funniest things I ever seen.

wow this is a very clever send up of hollywoodized films. And I say this as an American myself lol. One of the best of the Comic Strip films.

Ha! Why not? I'm American and I adore the Comic Strip. In fact, I'm practically obsessed with it.

If you liked this one, you may also enjoy GLC (also Comic Strip) and 'Churchill: The Hollywood Years', same writers, similar theme. You'll either get it or you won't - sadly, most don't :-(

Bit of a subtle joke--the actor playing the "Prime Minister" (He welcomes the little girl to the house of Commons) looks just like Neville Chamberlain, who was Prime Minister in the late 30's (when in fact the Prime Minister at the time of the strike was Margaret Thatcher). Remember how earlier the art director says the film "feels like the 30's."

This has always been one of my favourite bits of the film, but I just thought that people might be slightly offended by the stereotyping of what a Hollywood version of the 84-85 miners' strike might look like, that's all. It could lead to yet another mid-Atlantic flame war.

I would watch this B@stardized version of Strike if it was made tbh lol

The thing about The Comic Strip is that it lampoons everyone, including both Brits and Americans. There were some pretty crap U.S. films in the 80s, and that particular bit of American culture deserves to be ridiculed. Obviously, not all Americans go for that stuff, just like I'm sure not all Brits like certain stereotypical British things. It's all good.
