The choir sang this at the beginning of Mass this morning. The arrangement and combination of instruments (unexpectedly, especially the drums) provided a truly inspirational moment that set the tone for this Sunday's service. Thanks.

Finally, one of the newer hymns that isn't garbage like a lot of them turned out to be! Also, it is moderately easy to sing, unlike Steve Angrisano's re make of O Come, O Come Emmanuel titled just Emmanuel, which is quite hard to sing, being up and down the scale continuously! Now, I think this hymn would also sound great on pipe organ, and that is saying quite a lot because most of the new songs wouldn't just in how the music is written!

We actually use Emmanuel often during advent and we don't have any problems singing it at our parish.... And its always one of the favorite songs the congregation enjoys singing. Sorry you feel that way - but Emmanuel is really a great and catchy song in the 3 parishes I work for. (I am active in the music ministry at my parish as a cantor, sub organist and musician, and I sub organ for 2 other churches in the diocese. We use the song in all 3 parishes with a lot of ease)

This is a truly beautifully written hymn by Hart and Feduccia. I was surprised that, towards the very ebd of the commentary Sarah Hart states writing great lyrics is much tougher than writing the music....hmm not so sure that is true. I think if you're speaking of just a pop song lyrics don't matter too much but good lyrics always make any song easier to remember because the lyrics have impact so yes to that degree she is absolutely right but i have to say the sound is what carries - i can listen to a great sound w.o. lyrics and still enjoy the sound but i cannot listen to great lyrics and a bad sound - regardless a truly beautifully written hymn - many thanks to you both.
